Description from extension meta

Remember the victims and give the killers Zero Minutes of Fame.

Image from store Zero Minutes of Fame
Description from store 30% of mass killings, and 22% of school shootings, are inspired by previous gun related events. These events are always covered by the media, who plasters the killer’s name, image and motives all over their broadcast channels. So, if the media continues to give these killers their 15 minutes of fame, then it’s time to take matters into our own hands. By simply downloading this plug-in, you can wipe away the killer's name and image from your screen, and replace it with something that truly deserves our attention —the victims. You can also sign our petition, and encourage mass-media to stop showing the perpetrators’ names and images on their channels. http://actions.bradycampaign.org/page/s/zero-minutes-of-fame

  • (2016-06-29) Peter Gehred: The app is not perfect, but unlike a lot of products, it has the noble goal of saving lives. And if enough people adopt it, it will achieve that. I've yet to experience any technical difficulties with it, and respect the work done with this. Ironically, my organization has a similar app that we are working to expand. You can see our work at www.wikipolicy.xyz and that app at: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/wikipolicy/jkmoibjioidinennapfibgjimccdfjob

  • (2016-06-13) Just this morning, full article on the shooter in the Orlando Gay Nightclub incident was fully visible, while the Apple Developers Conference article had 8 images blocked out. this add on does not work at all
  • (2016-05-19) It seems to randomly replace things that it isn't supposed to replace, removing despite liking the idea.
  • (2016-05-16) mitch steiner: Reading about sharks on a news site - and article gets blocked - not sure that was the intention this needs work
  • (2016-05-09) Joe DeVitis: It's terrible at doing what it claims to do. I'm reading financial articles and entire swaths of the article are covered up. I know some financial people are criminals, but are they killers who also deserve zero minutes of fame? This extension needs plenty of honing. Right now it blankets articles that have nothing to do with why I added the extension in the first place.
  • (2016-05-06) Aaron Gullison: Does nothing. I loaded up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_serial_killers_by_number_of_victims to check. The text stayed unaltered. I checked a random news story (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/493887.stm) Nothing was changed. Needs work.

  • (2016-04-27) Jonathan Hutson: The Brady Campaign's "Zero Minutes of Fame" Chrome extension claims to prevent mass shooters from gaining notoriety by blocking their names and faces. Yet the Brady Campaign's promotional video does just the opposite -- flashing photos of well-known mass shooters while an announcer intones their names. The first version of the video misspelled the name of gun violence victim Daniel Barden, a little boy killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and used his photo without the family's permission. They also used the name of a second Sandy Hook victim, Caroline Previdi, without her family's permission, and put her name on a photo of a third Sandy Hook victim, Allison Wyatt, thus misidentifying both Caroline and Allison. The Brady Campaign did not get permission to use those names or photos or permission from the families to use other photos. The video ends by showing the photos of 16 killers' faces. Brady chose to release the video and publicize this extension even though they knew or should have known about these lapses in judgment and serious errors. Brady's promotional campaign for this Chrome extension has netted coverage by CNN.com, the Washington Post, Newsweek, and Mashable, in pieces that quote Brady President Dan Gross. Gross has a reputation for violating the trust of the community of gun violence victims and survivors. For example, in December 2014, Brady issued a direct mail fundraising appeal that used the photos of 20 children killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School without requesting permission from the children's families. When a distraught mom of one of the victims called Gross on it, he promised the families that he would never again use victims' photos without the families' consent. He also promised that he would show victims and survivors more respect. The promotional campaign for this Chrome extension shows that Gross either does not understand how to show respect, or does not care. No review would be complete without a test of the product. I downloaded the extension, as approximately 10 people have done to date. I then Googled a list of famous mass shooters, and found that the extension failed to block the names of six well-known mass shooters. At the same time, the extension sometimes annoyingly blocked the name of an instructor at the Naval War College who is not a mass shooter but who happens to share the name of one. So if a buggy Chrome extension that fails to deliver what is promised, while censoring innocuous content is your cup of tea, then by all means, download it. Just don't watch the Brady Campaign promotional video, which spotlights the very mass shooters that the extension is supposed to obscure. I do not recommend this extension.

In reading a tea article, Zero Minutes of Fame blocks most of the article. I've had this happen on several mundane, human interest stories (how to housekeep, music review, etc) & want the extension remove since it can't tell the difference between a story about tea & a mass shooting report -HELP!!
  • (2016-04-28, v:1.2.0) Jonathan Hutson: This plug-in does not work
I Googled a list of the 30 most famous mass shooters. This Chrome extension failed to block six of them -- a 20 percent failure rate. But it also has "false positives" -- it blocks the name of an innocent man who teaches at the Naval War College, and who happens to share the same name as a well-known mass shooter. I recommend that instead, people support the No Notoriety campaign at NoNotoriety.com.
  • (2016-04-28, v:1.2.0) Brendan o'connor: Finally
This is a great idea, I have always been frustrated by how much the media glorifies mass shootings, just to contribute to another one in the future.
