Dyslexia Reader is a browser extension for Chrome that overlays accessibility tools on top of any webpage to assist with reading.
Features:
Hover dictionary: hover over a word to see a quick definition.
Sentence highlighting: click a sentence to dim the rest of the page, highlight the sentence, and read it aloud.
Show syllables: insert · separators using a bundled local English hyphenation source.
Text size slider: scale page text from 80% to 200%.
AI rewrite: select text, click Simplify with AI, and get a simpler rewrite in an on-page panel.

The small dots added in the middle of words make it much easier for children to spell them out. Plus with the mouse hover dictionary lookup, they don't have to call me every two minutes anymore.

- This is a helpful extension. I like the word and line spacing, but it's not clear how to turn the extension on. The first checkbox, which says, "Tools on this page. Newly loaded pages start turned off" needs to be checked before the extension will work. Please make it clear that the first checkbox needs to be checked. I spent twenty minutes trying to figure out how to get the extension to work. Clear instructions may be: "Select this checkbox to turn the extension on." -- I don't know how to change the page's background color; it isn't an option. Also, having the extension be able to keep highlighting and reading out loud--rather than one sentence at a time--would be helpful. Overall, 3.5 stars. Thanks.
