Image from store Buffer First, Watch Video Later
Description from store If you're connected to a slow network, this extension can help you buffer YouTube videos first then watch later for a smooth viewing experience. 1. Go to a YouTube video page. 2. Select the video quality you desire. 3. Click the extension icon at the top of your browser. Please note: certain video quality and length of video will not let you buffer the entire video. If that's the case, use a lower video quality or watch until the latest buffer time and click on the extension button again to continue loading the rest of the video. Buffer first, watch later.

  • (2022-06-26) Joshua Gunstream: It wasn't as automated as I thought it would be. Before I searched for this, I was looking for something that can do everything this can, plus the ability to extrapolate an approximate amount of time it would take for an entire video to load, then once it calculates that it will take less time to finish loading the video than to play through to the end, it will automatically play it, possibly even slowing down, within limits, during unexpected connection drops for a more streamlined experience, although, ideally, it would take an average of the entire experience, not excluding outliers and not "rolling", so that deep connection losses will still be taken into account and will be balanced out by the faster periods of connection, or maybe it should use a completely different system of averages entirely, favoring higher connection speeds, but still taking into account the much lower speeds, but a simple and not "rolling" average will probably be better anyway; although, due to RAM limitations, I now see that this would only really work for very short videos, as, even if a computer has like 70 gigabytes of RAM, no web browser would possibly let all of that go to a single browser tab for concerns of malicious intent, even for trusted websites such as YouTube, as browser extensions would still be able to utilize that, although, I guess maybe you could set a desired buffer length, where it'll do all I said for only that buffer, which will still result in more pauses than ideal, but will still be better than leaving YouTube to do its YouTube thing. Despite my initial, but brief very disappointment, and steep, if short, learning curve for those that have not thought ahead as much as I have, this product has immense value to me, so I will continue using it, until my usually great internet connection resolves itself. Also, it's free. Edit: After further use, it seems like the extension completely brakes down on videos that use chapters; it only works for the first chapter and not for the others, and the playhead following the current end buffer point is very annoying, and it seems to snap to the end buffer point at random intervals, although further testing is required to validate this hypothesis.
  • (2022-03-11) Atomic Atom: It does not work.
  • (2022-01-21) Shhuayb: If only next 2 minutes are buffering then you are doing something wrong. Follow these steps: 1) Play the video 2) Select the video quality 3) Click the extension icon 4) Let the video buffer. It will take some time and depends upon the length and the quality of the quality. 5) Do NOT press the PLAY button while the video is buffering. You have to wait until the video is buffered completely. 6) PLAY the video after the buffering completes.
  • (2022-01-08) Victor Phillips: its a novel concept but due to YouTube patches it is currently non functional i hope that it can be updated to work in future
  • (2021-12-17) Vincent Gagnon: Works super well, love the concept, very useful on super-slow school wifi!
  • (2021-12-05) The Non Smoker: Very poor concept, it just skips the video to gather cache than later when you skip video the browser refresh the cache
  • (2021-07-30) Simon Cheng: Nice extension. Works well for me. It would be nice if you can add the functionality to automatically buffer without needing to click on the extension icon. Also make it an option so that the user can choose the desired behaviour.
  • (2021-06-23) Riaan Eloff: Does not appear to work at all.
  • (2021-04-06) P Mac: Great extension love it!
  • (2021-03-09) Michael Kashkov: Wow, this app is so helpful...! ))) I have all zoom recordings on YouTube and I need to watch them in the highest quality, but before this extension It wasn't comfortable enough. Thanks!
  • (2020-10-06) Olim Pather: i click on the extension nothing happens
  • (2019-12-16) Wiryawan Adipa: Not working
  • (2019-09-05) Kobold: This is extremely useful, Things that could make it better would be better haptic/visual feedback when it is started. Maybe an estimated time for it to finish at the selected resolution and auto-restart if it doesn't buffer the whole video.
  • (2019-08-16) M D M: When I turn off the internet connection after the extension finished buffering, then it is proved (at least in my case) that nothing is buffered. Just a nice graphical animation on the progress bar? Nothingg more?
  • (2019-08-15) yrLDtLnt: Let me mention my idea. I hope there are many settings. For example, when I set them up, they automatically buffer when I open the playback page. I don't need to click on them. I hope it can be buffered without affecting my viewing. For example, how many minutes can be buffered from the current time in the future. YouTube defaults to 2 minutes. I want to set it to 5 minutes. When I watch it, as long as the buffering time is less than 5 minutes, I can immediately buffer. Another problem is that the current functionality sometimes fails when I click on the icon to start and switch to another tag to let him run in the background.
  • (2019-08-15) Jia Feng: Awesome! Works especially well on long videos when I don't want to wait forever for it to load. Now I can have it load videos in the background while I do other things.
  • (2019-08-13) Ian Frechette: Works about halfway, about half the time. By that I mean, on a 5+ minute long video it will only buffer about 2.5 minutes before it gives up and starts playing, and it does this only about half the time. The other half the time, it either does nothing at all when I click the button to trigger the extension or it indicates that it's buffering the first couple minutes, but when it starts to play, the buffer disappears and it goes right back to playing the video normally, buffering only a few seconds ahead of the shuttle. The only other extension I have installed is Adblock Plus and disabling that, has no effect on the behavior above.

  • (2019-08-02) Harrison Wu: This extention is amazing, I fully load YouTube videos before getting on public transportation. No need to use a hotspot or crappy wi-fi when I already have everything loaded up before I get on the bus.
  • (2019-08-02) Rafe Autie: Using this every day from now on!
