Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands and the largest city, has a population of about 1.1 million. Located in the western province of the country, North Holland, a world-famous international metropolis. Its name is derived from Amstel dam, which indicates the origin of the city: a dam on the Amstel River, now the Dam Square.
