Cellular telephones have a vMail indicator that is either turned ON (vMonica) by a special binary PDU format SMS from the SMSC that is coded with a Data Coding Scheme (DCS) value of C8 (in hexadecimal octet format) or turned OFF (vMoffica) by a corresponding binary PDU format SMS with a DCS of C0 (assuming 7-bit characterset, since most binary SMSes use 8-bit encoding schemes).
