Emanuel Feld 2017-01-19: I like this sort of project, but I think its premise is flawed. Information may inform/reinforce ideology, but it isn't ideology—that which guides our interpretation. Emotion may arise from ideology, but the mapping isn't one to one. I don't know what the owner a feed is thinking when they see a tweet. Seeing someone's emotional response doesn't give me insight into its source. Peoples' behaviors often deviate from their most deeply held self-image. One feed stuck out. It contained: Billy Eichner's sketch advocating for gun reform, a user named 'CNN Lies & Is Hitler,' a story about Trump sexually assaulting women, and Newt Gingrich praising Betsy DeVos. The political landscape is even more convoluted. The labels people use, their behaviors, and their ideologies are often highly contradictory. We shouldn't pretend otherwise. How do you explain Bernie supporters who ended up voting for Trump? What about self-avowed anti-establishment voters who re-elected nearly all incumbents in the Senate? Better yet, how do they explain themselves?
