Want to save time daily when you are typing on the computer? Use Free Auto Text Expander for Google Chrome™ which allows you to type in letter combinations like "LOL" and have "Laugh Out Loud" show up on the computer screen instead. Please note to use this extension features, you HAVE to click on the extension icon to activate the "auto text expander" feature on the website you are on. This is to prevent our script from running automatically on all websites you visit.
This protects your privacy and ensures your browsing history/keyboard typing history etc is NOT sent to external third party websites. Other competitor text expander software scripts "run on all websites" and you have to trust them to ensure they are not sending this information back to their servers etc. For our extension, it is impossible for us to track your keystrokes because the software only works when you click on the extension icon.

Made a bug fix where a warning message showed up after we updated to manifest version 3.
To add text expander text - please right click on the extension icon and choose options. You can add as many text shortcuts as you want inside the options page of this extension.
Version 3.0.4 Change
Due to popular demand to make this software more user friendly, we've added the permission "Works on all websites". You do NOT need to click on the extension icon for the auto text expander feature to work on every webpage you browse. Please note our software does NOT store/capture any of your website visits etc and the only reason we ask for the "runs on all websites" permissions is because we had a lot of users email us asking for a easier version where they did not have to click on the extension icon to use the auto text expansion feature.

Fixed a bug for duplicate copying on some websites

Add %clip% command in auto text so that you can automatically paste text you have from the clipboard. Please note due to the new %clip% feature, our extension will require the clipboard permission. None of the text you copy & paste etc is ever sent to our servers, the data is all processed directly on your own computer when you use the %clip% feature.

- (2024-03-14) N R: This extn works in most plain text fields. Unfortunately not in the one key place I really need it to, when composing an outgoing email in Salesforce. This is in contrast with the similar 'Magical' extn which does work in emails. However we in the European company aren't allowed to use Magical because you need to sign into an account and that breaches some security guideline. My US colleagues don't have that issue and can use Magical. I feel it likely that a simple update is needed to make Auto Text Expander work in all types of page, I suspect that JavaScript or something is interfering.

- (2023-10-10) Dagoberto Jung: Just wanted a tool to replace - with — but it doesn't support shortcuts that begin with a space. It seems to work just fine on the test page, but no matter what I click in the extension, or which settings I change (including switching it to work on all sites) I cannot get it to actually do anything, even when writing this review or posting on chatboards. I don't know if the plugin is just jank, or if it's a strange coincidence that it's not compatible with this page and the one other website I actually needed it for, but either way, it seems like it has potential so 3 stars.
- (2023-10-09) Admin: This is perfect, I use this for all my spelling mistakes, i hate adding ' to words like theres, wont, arent, dont, so when im typing them on my websites it adds them, but right now im noticing that they arent adding them, so maybe not on this site it works, but most others it works.....hmmmm. Also, i have to type my car rental vin numbers alot, so now when i type trailblazerVIN it will put the VIN number instead of me looking it up and typing 17 numbers..... love it.

This does the job EXCEPT, it will not wait to expand your shortcut until after a space, comma, semicolon, question mark, exclamation point, or period. You can put a space OR other punctuation after a shortcut to emulate this. But unless you want to input each entry a half-dozen times with each punctuation mark, this won't work. It will expand immediately. So, if your shortcut is "bro" for "brother", as soon as you type the "o", it expands. If you are trying to type "brotherly" or "brontosaurus", you will get the expansion after "o".

I have created only 4 at the moment and only one (the very first one I entered) works. The other 3 are all in the database. I can see them but they don't work. I've saved and refreshed but no luck
