  • (2023-05-26) Bryan Wheeler: As an Admin for my bwork, it works well as far as I can tell. It registers fine in my panel and will track location. Prey has been great for as long as we have used it and I am glad to see that there is an option for Chromebooks even if it is a little less powerful.
  • (2021-12-28) Wingshing Yip: I agree with Regina Woodard's review. The Prey for Chromebook requires an Enterprise/Nonprofit/Education plan upgrade to use, which defeats the purpose. And before you ask, it is NOT included as part of the 3 devices included in the free plan, which makes no sense. If a PC and an Android phone count as part of the free plan, a Chromebook should too.
  • (2021-10-23) Regina Woodard: I've been using Prey for years and thankfully, I've never had to use it. However, after recently doing a powerwash on my Chromebook, I discovered that 1. I can no longer use the Android app and 2. I can only use the Chrome extension if I pay. Defeats the purpose of protecting my device if I have to pay for the same service I get on the free plan. If the home plan covered more than 3 devices (like say 5, $1 for each), then it would be a no brainer. But now, I'm going to have to let my Chromebook be at risk cause you all wanted more money.

  • (2022-10-08, v:4.5.1) Regina Woodard: Upgraded plan, still unable to use Prey for Chromebook
Let me first say that for my other devices - especially my Windows devices and Android phone - this is a fantastic app. However, I just recently upgraded my Chromebook and I'm running into the same issues I did with my first one - why in the world would you 1. stop allowing people to install the very easy app in the first place and then 2. make them sign up for a plan through a web extension?? My issue right now is that, despite upgrading to the home plan from the personal plan from the free plan, this web extension DOESN'T WORK. It keeps telling me it doesn't work for Chromebooks using personal plans? I don't have a personal plan; I have a home plan. And if it only works with the full suite of plans, then you need to say that and direct your non-corporate users (like me) to another software program. This was an expensive Chromebook and the thought that I can't even protect it because Prey themselves have become corporate is distressing to me. Either allow everyone on ALL PLANS to use your service or just come out and say you only work with companies and corporations.
