Archive webpage with archive.today
Adds a button to the Chrome toolbar. When clicked, it sends the URL of the current tab to archive.today to preserve a snapshot of the page, and opens the result in a new tab.
Also includes Link context menu to Archive or Search, Page context menu to Search.
Archive URL can be bookmarked for future reference, shared, whatever. Uses HTTPS for security.
For similar functionality on Android, check out Share2Archive in the Play Store.
NOTES:
1. "Read your browsing history" permission is eliminated if not granted, or if you remove and reinstall the extension.
2. If you get an error, try again or try later. It's NOT an extension issue—archive.today sometimes gets overwhelmed.
3. CloudFlare DNS may not resolve archive.today, so if you experience DNS errors, try a different DNS server.
WHAT'S NEW:
0.9.0 Update: Remove (uninstall) button in Options dialog
Update notification only if enabled by user (optional permission)
0.8.4 Update: Notification only when updated (not installed).
Remove unnecessary access to browsing history.
Tweak default Options.
0.8.1 Update: Notification when installed or updated.
0.8 Update: Display Options dialog when onboarding.
Add Privacy Policy to Options dialog.
0.7 Update: Migrate to Manifest V3.
Prevent use on non-Web tabs.
0.6 Update: Improve Search functionality.
0.5 Update: Option to open archive.today in adjacent tab, tab at end, or active tab.
Closing new tab now returns to original tab.
0.4 Update: Options to control new tab activation (separate for each function). New tab is activated by default. Uncheck option to not activate.
0.3 Update: Adds context menu items for:
• Page: Search archive.today for the page URL
• Link: Archive or Search link in archive.today
(archive.today is a time capsule for web pages. It takes a 'snapshot' of a webpage that will always be online even if the original page disappears. It saves a text and a graphical copy of the page for better accuracy and provides a short and reliable link to an unalterable record of the web page.)

- (2024-10-14) Iulius Augustus: "2. CloudFlare DNS may not resolve archive.today, so if you experience DNS errors, try a different DNS service." when 99.9% works and this extension fails i think the problem is there a waste of time, much better solutions out there forgot to remove it, bumped 2-3 times when got updated, now is time to remove it for good, farewell
- (2024-08-15) Salman Ravoof: Works good, but the search fails if the URL has many attributes attached to its end. If there's a way it could select the base URL automatically before performing the search, that'd be amazing. Still, I like the functionality it offers. Thanks. Update 14/08/2024 - Still the same. I hope the author reads this review and provides an update to enable this feature.
- (2023-09-27) Rashi Abramson: You need to use a compatible DNS resolver like 208.67.220.220 (OpenDNS) works for me.
- (2023-09-22) simon su: thanks so much, it helps a lot!
- (2023-09-08) RH: Broken unfortunately
- (2023-09-03) Jeffrey Gordon: This and adblock plus and you're good to go.
- (2023-08-22) Joey Cook: I am very thankful for the work done behind Archive Page. It has lived up to true accessibility -- without compromise.
- (2023-08-21) chad tunis: Doesn't seem to be working over the last few weeks. Great when it does work
- (2023-08-11) Dalton Gil: Sadly it has stopped working and it was very interesting. Rectification the extension continues to work perfectly the problem was my kaspersky antivirus. I´m sorry
- (2023-08-10) Deniz Yasayan: John, sorry. Problem was my Kaspersky. I rate 5 star. Sorry.
- (2023-07-13) Bill Carruthers: Just a great extension- especially for doing research on subjects you might not normally be concerned with .
- (2023-07-10) pfx\yd\ls\kd: Top Tip: If your URL has come from eg Facebook or Twitter then delete all the extra the stuff at the end of your URL to have it work! THANKYOU so much for this extension !!
- (2023-04-25) dom hr: 好像这两天崩了?
- (2023-04-21) Abhijit Dey: The most useful extension that I use!
- (2023-04-01) Noah The Troll-Hunting Christian Spy: This extension is very great since it saves to a decentralized archive. However, one feature it could use is an auto-archive switch that saves pages that haven't previously been archived. That would make things easier. Also, Youtube video archiving would be nice.
- (2023-03-15) Karie M: I saw a new-to-me thing: archive.today | archive.ph | archive.is shows a topmail.ru script running (https://top-fwz1.mail.ru/js/code.js). It's gathering tracking data (e.g., geolocation; timestamp; clicks; impressions). I came to the extensions page to learn more, and noticed other people citing their adblockers reporting malicious code. This may be one reason why. The privacy policy for this extension states "The developer has disclosed that it will not collect or use your data." Please can you help me understand the affiliation between the URL and this extension (e.g., does the archive.ph URL tracking script run every time I engage the extension to archive a webpage, because the Archive Page extension calls the URL which permits bypass of any adblocker settings at runtime)? Please can you share the source code for this extension to confirm no data is being gathered? Thanks very much for your time.
- (2023-03-13) judie luse: Yesterday I started getting messages from AVAST that it had blocked this due to a malicious code being found. Anyone else with this issue?
- (2023-03-12) Roger Zou: Extremely useful for archives
- (2023-02-17) C Scott Willy: Worked great for me.
- (2023-02-11) Jeff State: I've used this software for over a year, but now Malwarebytes blocks 130.0.232.208:443, so this extension is inoperable. In its logs, Malwarebytes reports 130.0.232.208:443 as Malware and the archive.today domain as RiskWare. I'm not sure how/why this started, but archive.today should get their site's anti-malware alerts in order, so the author's extension can get used properly. The problems that two 2023 reviewers reported are likely related.

- (2022-02-16) Pei: the plug-in has stopped working, since the domain of archive.today disappeared.
- (2022-01-04) Bouazza SE: It's awesome, but sadly it stopped working in 2022. It now says "archive.li redirected you too many times.". Probably has to do with the fact that the domain name "archive.today" is now longer accessible? archive.is works however.
- (2021-12-30) C: Easy peasy. Works reliably. Gets me where I want to go. Doesn't appear to hang me up elsewhere.
- (2021-09-19) K: I wish there was a global subscription service for news. I get that news agencies have to pay reporters and etc. But it's not feasible to subscribe to every paper you encounter linked articles for. This is the next best thing.
- (2021-07-19) John Asquith: Works very rarely...hence a waste of time!
- (2021-07-19) ThatOneEnder: Fantastic and incredibly efficient archival service. Incredibly glad there is a very easy and straightforward way to archive pages that I have reason to believe should be archived. This will save so much internet history in the long term, thank you for your work on this app.
- (2021-06-30) X Y: Is this on Github? Couldn't find it. Would make it easier to keep it up to date if one doesn't want to use the Chrome store.
