This extension extract the results for a BBO Tournament
This extension is designed for use by directors or scorers of bridge tournaments on Bridge Base Online, who wish to extract the detailed results from BBO for publication on a bridge club's website. This extension extracts the results and hand records from a BBO matchpoint or cross-imp pairs tournament, a Swiss Pairs or Swiss Teams tournament, or a match between two Teams of Four. It stores the result as a CSV file and PBN file in the browser's Downloads folder. Full ranking, scorecard, and traveller details are extracted. Makeable contracts and optimum contracts/scores are calculated automatically and included in the PBN file. A free web app (BBOtoXML), at dds.bridgewebs.com/bbotoxml, is then used to convert the spreadsheet into an XML file for upload to a bridge results website. Conversion from BBO names to full player names can now be carried out in the BBO Extractor or at a later stage in the BBOtoXML web app. The latter is the recommended method. To start the process, navigate to a BBO tournament page, as displayed in the screenshot, and click on the extension's icon (a BBX symbol). For the extension to be able to access the BBO scorecards and travellers you must be logged in to "Hand Records" with a BBO account (any valid account will suffice, it does not have to be an account used in the tournament). If you are not logged in you will be prompted to do so. The icon will change colour when the startup is successful. For a typical sized tournament, the process will run for a couple of minutes, as it paces retrieval of traveller pages in order to avoid loading BBO. If a retrieval produces an error response it is automatically retried. At the end of the process the results and hand records are saved as a CSV file and PBN file respectively, in the browser's Downloads folder. Makeable contracts and optimum contracts/scores are calculated automatically and included in the PBN file. If you want to terminate the extraction process before it is complete, click on the BBX icon a second time. If a names conversion file is open in a separate tab the process can use this to convert BBO usernames into real names. The names file should have a .txt extension, and can be opened in the browser tab by entering Ctrl+O and browsing to locate and open the file. Make sure that the tournament's results tab is in the foreground before clicking on the BBX icon. Note that to use the name conversion functionality you must manually enable "Allow access to File URLs" in the extension details. To do this, click on the chrome browser menu button, and select "More Tools/Extensions". Click on the "Details" button of the BBO Extractor entry and scroll down to find the "Allow access to File URLs" setting, then move the slider to the On position. The names file must be in the following format: #names bboname, firstname, surname,ID where bboname is a user's name on BBO, followed by first name and surname of the user in separate fields. The ID field is optional and, if present, is the ID of the player (e.g. EBU national ID)

BBX does not appear to be working. It starts normally but continues to be running for excessive amount of time (20 minutes or more on a 6 table event).with no results. Clarence Durand Club Manager Hot Springs Duplicate Bridge Club (870) 403-2080 [email protected]
- (2021-10-11, v:1.4.1) Cathryn Collins: empty unnamed csv file
Using the extractor today I only get an unnamed empty csv file and no pbn file. Is this a BBO problem? Have they changed their access? Thanks Cathryn
- (2021-06-15, v:1.3.13) Brian Duncan: Converting BBO scores into BridgeWebs
I notice that there can be small differences between the scores on BBO and when they are converted in BridgeWebs. Normally this doesn't matter but recently it had the effect of reversing first and second places in the weekly event. Have you come across this before and is there any way of avoiding the differences? I should add that it is a great facility to have. Brian Duncan Belfield Bridge Club , Dublin

- (2020-08-08, v:1.3.6) Tom Deneau: Can board completion time be added to the csv line?
Would be interested in seeing the board completion time in the csv line. (Since it is in the raw pages on BBO). I would use it for calculating how long pairs spent on various hands.

I am working on a similar project for Stepbridge and have succeeded using VB.Net. In the throws of moving from desktop app to extension for Chrome Browsers. I am just interested in what language you used for your extension (I assume something higher level such as C#).
- (2020-07-27, v:1.3.3) Peter Taylor: BBO Extractor
Hi John We are new to BBO and want to put the results of our Club nights on our website which runs under BridgeWebs.I have some instructions on the process but failed at the first hurdle in that I was unable to add the BBX Extractor Chrome Extension. I opened the Sandbox in Security and Privacy centre and disabled my firewall temporarily to no effect. The download fails immediately. My PC is running Windows 10 and is up to date and appears to be functioning normally in all other respects. Any suggestions? Many thanks Pete Taylor.
- (2020-07-10, v:1.3.1) Karen Martelletti: BBX stalls
Hi there Thank you so much for this wonderful tool. We have used it a lot. Recently however, I experienced an issue where the BBX starts running, then stalls. I just cannot get it to start up again. Usually after a few attempts it finally works but I am stuck today again and no luck. Any ideas what is causing this ? I have uninstalled and re installed the Extractor to see if that solves the problem, and still no joy. Thanks Karen
- (2020-06-25, v:1.3.1) Cormac Lalor: xml File not Created
Dear John, We are a Bridge Club affiliated to the CBAI. For many weeks we have been happily converting BBO scores to our bridgewebs site, thanks to BBX. Until today, that is. All appeared well, as the BBX created csv file and and the hands file went to my downloads folder. Then when attempting to create the xml file for bridgewebs, nothing happened. NO xml file was created. Can you help, please? Thank you and best regards, Cormac Lalor, TD Collins Bridge Club, Cork. Mob: 00353868138667, [email protected]
- (2020-05-24, v:1.2.5) PBC Secretary: SBU event
John would it be possible in xml creation to have an optional new field output for SBU If club ID is format W/XYZ (e.g. E/MEL or I/SBU) then output event identifier line below in xml <EVENT_IDENTIFIER>OL01</EVENT_IDENTIFIER> that is letter O letter L the number 0 number 1 This is not desperate as we can manually add it but would be nice and save manual edit for awarding points.
