This extension offers an easy way to highlight text on a web page and import it to note-taking apps like Roam Research, Obsidian, Logseq or Notion in the format that best suits your workflow.
This is especially helpful of you are doing research, want to build your own knowledge-base or just want to save your favorite blog articles.

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT THE EXTENSION?
The quickest way to launch the extension is with a hotkey (e.g CMD + SHIFT + R). You can set a hotkey in the Chrome Settings for Extensions. Next you can create your own format for the highlights, by going into the widget settings. Play around with the placeholders and use spaces to indent content.

PERMISSIONS:
Roam Highlighter needs to modify the websites you visit to display the widget. That's why it needs the requested permissions to function properly. However, the exact phrase ("Read and change all your data on the website you visit") make it sound more invasive than it actually is. Currently, the extension runs completely on your local machine and the only thing that is saved, are the settings you make.

I hope in the future it would be possible to make comments for the highlights too.

- (2020-09-07) Scott Otterson: This is certainly useful, but better would be something that saves entire web pages into a searchable archive, like the Evernote web clipper. The reason is that I sometimes find that my highlights and notes were missing something, and to get that something, I have to go back and reread the original. This can be hard to do if you rely upon a page or tweet to still exist on the ephemeral web. Also, when I write notes, I almost never copy in chunks of literal article text. Instead, I highlight while reading, and then go back through the highlights, writing down points in my own words. But maybe I'd still like to somehow link to those highlights...

The extension doesn't seem to be working on ChromeOS. It stopped working a couple of months ago was fixed after a few weeks. But as of yesterday (for me) it stopped reacting when clicked. Hi, I installed the extension in Brave, unfortunately it is not copying any of the bookmarks to Roamresearch. It does not open the Roamresearch tab either. I'm just wondering if the extension works in Brave or whether I need to manually give extra permissions to the extension and if so how to do that. Hi, great extension overall but one issue I'm experiencing (at least on MS Edge - not sure if this is also happening on Chrome): after opening a new page where the typing cursor appears in the default text field, like a search bar for example, within about 3-5 seconds the focus of the typing cursor suddenly disappears, effectively forcing you to you your mouse to put it back that in that field. This happens on ALL websites, not just Roam and the problem completely goes away when disabling the Roam extension. Hope this can be fixed. If you open a site and then hit the extension button, the usual dialog opens. If you immediately hit Copy Bookmark, without selecting any text, it does not open a Roam page. Hi there, love the extension. I just have a tiny feedback regarding compatibility with Reader extensions. I can't run Roam Highlighter when I am running another extension like Fika or Clearly (both aimed at making webpages more readable).
