• (2021-08-12) Erik Neff: I'd give this extension a 4 or 5 star rating if it was updated, but as it stands now, it's unusable due to the room names being illegible until you click them, and the body of conversations not being dark. I'm sure it's because Google made a bunch of changes to the Chat UI a few months ago and the developer hasn't updated it since. Hopefully he or she comes back and makes the requisite changes or finds someone else who can...
• (2021-08-12) Schrena: Dark Mode is incomplete. It still leaves a large chuck of the page with a bright white background. It's tedious, nearing impossible, to set your own dark mode because the sections aren't clearly labeled. So you can't tell which section on the page belong to which label within the extension.

Dark mode was nice though. Not sure why google doesn't have built in theme options but since they don't I hope this extension gets working again. Much respect to the devs here for making the extension in the first place but I can't leave a good review right now.
• (2021-07-04) Erik Neff: Piling on with the others - I like the idea for the plugin, and it was great until Google Chat made some updates a month ago or so, and now all the styling looks quite bad. Hopefully the developer will see this and make the requisite updates, and I'll revise my review.
• (2021-06-29) Brian Kraus: Need to pop in another low review, not because this is an inherently bad extension, but because it looks like Google changed things and the extension hasn't updated to account for them. Confirming that as of 29 Jun 2021, it looks like the underlying CSS has changed again, and the extension is horribly broken. Agree w/ others that Dark Mode doesn't work. But if you go in and custom change the colors on the elements, you'll really see the problem. Effectively, you change "chat area background color", but what really changes is "sidebar area"; that isn't 100% correct, but that is the overall issue. So I suspect Google changed its classes and ID's in the background and the extension just needs to get updated. A real bummer, because everything was working just fine up to about 1-2 weeks ago, at least for me.
• (2021-06-29) Roy Bowling: Come on. This has got to be the simplest thing in the world. "Dark Mode", means dark fonts and backgrounds EVERYWHERE. When I have a conversation or a room open and the background is blazingly white, that is the exact opposite dark mode. Either fix this or do us all a favor and remove yourself from the web store. Nobody needs this frustration right now.

• (2021-06-25) Taariq Firfirey: nearly there, the setup of custom themes is to complex for the lay person, its difficult to figure out what all the different items means without trial and error. so simplify the options and have what you currently have as advanced setup. also room and room names text in the list of rooms are same colour as background. think a recent update in chats broke the setup
• (2021-06-23) Eric Condrey: The extension automatically goes to dark mode which is nice because then I don't have to use the web broswer extension I use and don't necessarily want on all sites all the time JUST to have it dark on my chats. It unfortunately does not provide other chat themes at the moment though, hoping that gets fixed. It also hides the text when you go to settings within the chat (I have to to do a CTRL+A situation over the entire page to get the text to show up). Will bump up rating when more themes become available again.

The Names of the Rooms are in Black, so when you set a dark theme, there is nothing to set the color of the names and almost all the Pop Ups are washed out in white.

On the working account, the URL is "chat.google.com" while on the other, as soon as I enter the URL, it changes to "mail.google.com/chat" If you could change the list of sites that the extension needs access to to include the second variation on the URL, I would change my rating to 5 stars, as well as have a more thorough enjoyment of the extension. *EDIT: There is a new Google Chat update that has a hover color over your active chat. If you could add a setting to change the color of that, as well as issue mentioned originally, I would be very pleased with this extension. *EDIT: Extension no longer works, as Google has fully transitioned to the new "mail.google.com/chat" URL. Until this is fixed, the extension will not function and my rating will remain at one star.

Swap my messages to they're on the right, similar to the way Google Messages in Android is, also, add ability to change the message background color so it's different from the people we're chatting with.   Firstly I want to second/third/etc. the vote to hopefully fix the font color for the room list in dark mode its completely useless and annoying. Also if possible add a setting to change the highlight color of the background when you have selected a room or user.. the bright grey doesn't work in dark mode very well either.. There are a lot of color settings that don't seem to do anything or are mis-labeled at this point please maybe try looking into which ones still work or do anything at all vs the ones which seem to be non-functional. Third I noticed this morning that after setting dark mode / custom settings , if you resize the width of the app window the background color settings for the whole UI except the conversation thread section go back to white background and they can never be changed back without re-launching the app.. This extension is LIFE to so many people please please please fix it up to make it as awesome as it can be thank you!

In the regular browser version of Google Chat, everything works perfectly now, but the App version seems to be using a different name for the chatroom font colors, so those always stay black, which makes them pretty much unreadable in dark mode.
