Description from extension meta

This plugin displays your text in a textarea so you can use spellcheck plugins like Grammarly.

Image from store Overleaf textarea
Description from store Spellcheck in Overleaf is very basic. It is nothing compared to dedicated tools such as Grammarly. I used to copy and paste into Docs back and forward until recently. I created this chrome extension that copies the content of the file visible in the editor; filters the commands/keywords and pastes the plain text in a textarea (Right area). This textarea is displayed over the pdf preview. Extensions such as Grammarly can't check complex editors such as Overleaf, but only work in textareas. Changes made to the textarea, either by extensions such as Grammarly or yourself, are evaluated and changes are merged back to the editor.

  • (2023-11-07) Ye Shi: It seems the plugin is broken. Please fix it.
  • (2023-02-23) Konstantinos: Looked like exactly what I needed but after installing it, the pdf part of the page is just a blank page with a cursor blinking. Some Overleaf update probably broke the plugin.
  • (2022-10-16) Michael Stanley: Very useful plugin, but the underlining will gradually become further and further down the page from the word the suggestions are targeting. This makes it hard to use on large documents.
  • (2022-09-26) Oner Yigit: It has been a great extension. However, it seems there are some problems with the extension. It does not work anymore.
  • (2022-07-20) joycelyn Longdon: This was so useful! A godsend.
  • (2022-06-08) Ali M: Great Idea and I love it
  • (2022-05-19) Federico Cunico: Great plugin, really a game changer in overleaf. There are still some bugs like CTRL+Z sometimes not working in the plugin's text-area, problems with some LaTeX command which if removed displays errors, etc... But overall a great tool, highly recommended
  • (2022-04-26) Kinox Klark: This is exactly what I was needing. Thanks!
  • (2022-04-20) Zhe Chen: Great app for grammar checking in Overleaf. But the extension keeps crashing in Chrome, which is quite annoying.
  • (2022-04-09) James Chen: It worked before, but since the recent maintenance, the pdf appeared above the richtext that can check spealings.
  • (2022-04-08) Laust Dixen Munck: Doesn't work correctly for me. It seems like it displays the text under the pdf viewer and not over.
  • (2022-03-31) mick dam: I found on an old StackExchange that Robin Dijkhof was working on this. This is amazing for a dyslexic:). Cheers from Delft
  • (2022-03-16) Johannes Schneider: It is very unreliable for both Chrome and Firefox. Often the wrong words are marked and changes can screw up entire sentences. It would be such a useful extension, but overall trying it was a waste of time.
  • (2022-03-02) Matthew Herald: Perfect
  • (2022-01-19) Mura M: Thank you so much
  • (2021-11-29) Jaap: Some of the LaTeX commands aren't filtered out, which sometimes confuses Grammarly. Overall a great extension, saves me a lot of time!

  • (2021-09-13) Denis Shleifman: I usually never write reviews, but this extension is a life saver. I have spent so much time copying my latex code into word removing commands and then copying into Grammarly and then having to cross-compare. Which is tedious work at best, and at worst lead to additional mistakes. This plugin is amazing. 10/10, would recommend.

  • (2021-04-06) Tim Pote: Wow, just awesome. For the longest time I've just been grumbling about how bad the Overleaf spell check is and that I can't use Grammarly...how wrong I was. This is great, does what is intended!
  • (2021-04-01) Léolo Gonay: Amazing ! Does the job, and I cant tell you I needed someone to do the job after nights and nights working on my thesis... Thanks !!
  • (2021-03-22) Chris Teo: Overall, a fantastic extension. However, it is a little buggy around citations and scientific notations where certain words/sentences go missing.
  • (2021-03-20) R Chang: This is so awesome! it works smoothly
  • (2021-03-18) Joakim Skarding: Great plugin, does what it says. It's a bit rough around the edges. Some latex commands are not removed and other times the plugin removes too much. But that doesn't affect the original latex text itself so the impact is only positive. I do wish that when accepting a change just the word is updated rather than the whole line. If track changes is on, then a whole paragraph will be shown as edited when just one word was changed.
