Description from store Welcome to all users coming from "The Marvellous Suspender", "The Great Suspender (notrack)", "Tab Suspender", "Tiny Suspender" or other similar extensions! This extension can migrate your suspended tabs! Do not uninstall your existing extension(s) until you migrate to this one, or else Chrome will delete all your suspended tabs. Let Chrome run faster by freeing up resources used by old inactive tabs. Discarding a tab natively tells your browser it can free up memory and resources, and is the preferred way to keep your browser running fast and efficient. Tab Suspending is the old-school approach at saving memory, but allows for visual customization. Your browser will still assign some resources to the suspended "mini-pages" to allow for the customization. But you can also Discard a Suspended tab... perhaps getting the best of both worlds. New Features Suspend Tabs Suspend tabs in addition to Discarding them, giving you some visual customization. You can Discard or Suspend or both! Suspended Tabs can have dimmed favicons and custom icons added to the title Migrate Tabs Migrate suspended tabs from several other extensions. Discard all tabs at startup Prevents Chrome from loading all your tabs at startup, while preserving the tabs in your last session. Discard eligible tabs Same as "Discard other tabs" but observes the current auto-discard settings, like skipping Pinned and Audio tabs. Link to Chrome Discards page Adds a link on the context and popup menus to launch the built-in chrome://discards/ page. What does "Discarding" a tab mean? Discarding a tab does NOT close or remove or delete the tab. It natively tells your browser it can free up memory and resources, and is the preferred way to keep your browser running fast and efficient. What about "Suspending" tabs? Tab suspending is the old-school approach at saving memory, but allows for visual customization. Your browser will still assign some resources to the suspended "mini-pages" to allow for the customization. You can also Discard a Suspended tab... perhaps getting the best of both worlds. • (2025-07-06) Felix Rodriguez: Under Suspend Settings, can you add option to automatically restore page when visited please?
  • (2025-06-20) Nabeel K: Work as intended. Would have loved to have the option where the extension takes a snapshot of the screen then suspends it. Resuming the tab would also directly remove the temporary snapshot. Would also loved for it to offer different tab title and color customization whenever a tab gets suspended i.e. being able to make suspended tabs to be shown clearly. If one or both gets implemented, i'll of course change the score to 5 right away.
  • (2025-06-10) Wehuty: By far — the best replacement for TGS or TMS functionality out of the dozen-plus options I've tested. Yet actively developing nonetheless. A few thoughts on the current state (10/06/2025): -There is a discrepancy in terms: when 'suspend' is chosen as the default method, pressing 'discard all eligible tabs' SUSPENDS them, not discards. (Actually, why only implement either 'mass suspend' OR 'mass discard'? An option to suspend tabs based on a whitelisted filter first, AND then discard all (including suspended ones) via two different menu buttons seems much more interesting.) -Migration from TGS/TMS can crash the browser if too many tabs are migrated simultaneously (in my case, 1.2k). I think it would be bearable if migration is split into ~50-tab cycles with a pause in between. -Hotkey for 'suspend selected tabs' would be great too.
  • (2025-05-31) TINYSHOT PRODUCTIONS: It works, but none of these Great Suspender alternatives have the feature to save the time/position of YouTube videos automatically when suspending tabs.
  • (2025-05-15) Treksh Marwaha: The developer has updated to manifest v3 and is slowly feature matching the disabled suspender extensions. The extension works well and has both classic suspension and the native discard.
  • (2025-05-06) Rudranil Ghosh: " Discard all tabs at startup " does not work, other than this everything works on Brave
  • (2025-04-19) Veeresh Devireddy: It is not discarding or suspending anything. Either it is broken or not working.
  • (2025-03-12) KupoMoogleRU: Compared to The Marvellous Suspender: Positive: Supports the Manifest V3 Minuses: The tab does not turn pale, it is unclear whether the tab is discarded or not. High RAM consumption, 30-40% more From here I have such conclusions that it looks like a scam. Discarded pages are rendered instantly when you click on them, as if they are not loaded, but the white fill is simply removed from them, and the page was not discarded. In TMG the page was redrawn while the code elements and images from the Internet were being loaded I went back to TMG.
  • (2024-11-24) Dewd McMan: Remains 'active' when restoring session with lots of tabs so can 'unload' them (like 'sloth' but without the silly popup issue), but would be way better if this extension could automatically open ALL tabs in 'unloaded' state ALL THE TIME, except for 'new tab' & directly opening a new page in the same tab by clicking a link. To rephrase this: The following should always be 'unloaded' & remain unloaded until viewed by the user ~> ~ Any 'page / tab / etc' opened by any user action that is not 'focused' as the 'active' tab (being viewed on screen by the user). ~ Any 'page / tab / etc' or group of them opened from 'sessions'. For example, when opening a session of over 100 tabs (just an example) all of them should be 'backgrounded' & not wasting resources, & ONLY download or do any 'activities' only AFTER they are clicked & viewed by the user. There is an extension for old Firefox called 'Bar Tab' that does this perfectly (for reference =) ~ Any 'page / tab / etc' opened during 'startup' that is not the active (viewable on screen) tab where page contents are shown. All other tabs should always 'start' in 'unloaded' state & never do ANYTHING AT ALL until AFTER the user clicks that tab to view it's 'contents'. As for NOT 'discarding' tabs, there should be an option to NEVER discard ANYTHING AT ALL (except maybe to 'disk' instead of 'RAM') after the user clicks & views the contents of that tab or group of tabs by physically browsing it to see their 'contents' on screen. In other words, when browsing Youtube, with a dozen tabs open, with videos paused at various spots, all the videos should always remain viewable & 'playable' at those same positions when the user clicks back to view the contents of those tabs. This helps speed the browsing 'process' on items the user likes, or everything =) Note: The option to only 'do not discard' on specific domains would be nice, as would the option to always discard certain domains when not viewed, with time delay options varying from minutes or hours all the way down to 'discard this tab whenever I leave this tab to visit another tab'. To rephrase this: The following should be discarded (at user option) ~> ~ The contents of a tab when the user clicks to another tab (either immediately or after user defined delay) ~ The contents of tabs described above only if they are under a certain user defined domain ('discard these domains' list) Note: A 'Safe List' to NEVER discard ANYTHING under certain domains (like for example 'youtube' =) More ideas at 'balkanguy (at) live (dot) com'. iCan pay U 4 various 'extension options' 4 this & other 'browser related' things if that helps =D
  • (2024-02-07) RedSnt: Just excellent extension. Anno Niem wrote a review on August 3rd, 2023 saying that feature doesn't work, but that's probably because they had "Lazy loading restored tabs" enabled which interferes with this extension. I noticed huge lag spikes with lazy load enabled and this extention discarding tabs at startup, it was like Vivaldi tried to load all tabs and TGD'er discarding them simultaneously. With "Lazy Loading Restored Tabs" in Vivaldi this feature works almost as expected, although it doesn't correctly understand Vivaldi's tab stacks correctly meaning it does load some tabs.
  • (2023-10-24) Jason Walls: This is the way my dudes. Trust me. Been using this extension since it was just a github fork of the original Great Discarder with the life-changing "discard all tabs on startup" option added. Beyond stoked to see it now on the chrome web store. Just download it already!

  • (2023-08-02) Anno Niem: The key feature I wanted "Discard all tabs at startup" is not working for me. I'm on Vivaldi 6.1, started looking for an alternative to "Tab Suspender" as it made 6.1 crash. Sadly this one isn't it, too bad I like the simplicity of it.

  • (2022-02-10) Arpad Orfi: It works. However, there are two other extensions with more features, or/and a different working mechanic what makes it possible to show a screenshot of the suspended tab without loading it (and waiting for it) again.

  • (2021-02-21) killua99: This is the greater extension after discard the suspender, UI wise is hard to know when you have a tabs unloaded, but well you get use to that quickly the important key of this extension is to keep chrome a bit less hungry and consume less RAM
