- (2025-06-01) Paul Shenton: Unbelievably fantastic extension.
- (2025-05-29) Roy Benari: It's the VTT every D&DBeyond user can and should use! So far, the only feature I found missing from this great VTT is the ability to generate maps and create custom environments, but that hasn't been an issue, since it's already giving you access to hundreds of maps and environments, and if you didn't find what you're looking for there, you can easily import an image to act as your map or background, including animated maps! Oh, and I mention it's completely free to use? Because it is! Fog-o-war, light/vision, measuring tools - so many of the features that are locked behind a paywall on other platforms - are completely free, and extremely easy to use! It's a bit buggy at times, and can definitely be improved upon - but that is to be expected from a product still in its development. Considering it allows for so much, asking for so little I think it's an absolute win! I love AboveVTT! I felt like I hit the jackpot when I found out about it, and I can't recommend it enough! Don't know what I would do without it.
- (2025-05-28) toxic mar: Wow one of the best free tools out
- (2025-05-14) Michel Conn: Wild a tool this good is free
- (2025-04-17) Joshua Whitehurst: Every time a release comes out you'll be amazed again that this is a passion project you can use for free. Insanely well made and constantly getting better.
- (2025-04-09) Jon F: Amazing
- (2025-03-26) Michael Cooley: its awesome really is but im only giving 2 stars because it does not work on mobile and not every1 has a pc or can afford one but everyone in this day has a phone. it seems crazy to leave it out of mobile. if my players could use it on thier phones would be and easy 5 stars however i will be continueing my search for a mobile vtt that doesnt cost an arm and a leg
- (2025-02-23) Tyler Sustare: A game changer for my group. We've never wanted to use a VTT before but this was exceptional with DDB. WotC buy these guys out!! Maps sucks and this is the obvious choice.
- (2025-01-31) Erik: Works really well! Does it all for in person table top gaming! Amazing been using it for more then a year now and never looked for anything else! Great support from the community on features being added etc. Love it! Nat 20 VTT!
- (2025-01-29) Matt Dague: Amazing VTT, unbelievably that this thing is free. I have run all my games using it and the devs do an amazing job.
- (2025-01-12) XenomorphKing06: Constantly improving, and adding features not found in some interdepended paid VTTs. They take community feedback and try their best to implement it, you should really consider joining their discord and showing them support for providing this amazing service to the community.
- (2025-01-05) Matt Purvis: The absolute best VTT for any campaign that uses D&D Beyond. Endlessly improving, incredibly easy to learn the simple stuff and grow to use the hard stuff. I've faithfully used it every single of my now 100+ sessions over 3+ years of DMing and every single new player I introduce it to picks it up quickly and uses it well. Great developer community and have gotten help quickly and kindly from the Discord and builders. Can't recommend enough for all DMs.
- (2024-10-08) Fant Asyscifi: We've been long time users after using FOundry and finding the networking clunky as all get out unless you pay for a server - so prepare for the bias of someone who wishes Foundry was as awesome as it can be (I still want it to be, really! It's a dream in theory :D ) First and foremost, this thing is truly free - no paygates or premium features - you get it all and it works straight away. No network settings oh and prep time is incredibly fast compared to Foundry One of the best things for someone who has run 5 campaigns on it is that I can get a player up to speed in 15 minutes. Tops! (Hell, I've been able to get someone up to the basics in 5!) When you DM you don't want something that ADDS to your workload. The best reason to grab it? Picture this: Imagine someone say out of the blue, let's play DnD tonight and you have nothing prepped... Within 10 minutes you can have say 3 scenes ready to go from the FREE templates - oh they are all free. There's no paygate here, my awesome fellow DMS, they are ALL free. Want to use a map from an artist you bought a map from on Patreon? Easy peasy. Upload it to Dropbox and click then dropbox from the dropdown tfor the scene map - 60 seconds later you have a map. And yes, you can do that with spooky sounds and mood music but the Discord music bots are better for music ;) Oh and no more "your modules need to be updated" followed by a module creator who hasn't/won't update the Foundry module, which means you're staring at the screen thinking 'well damn, here goes another theatre of the mind session'. The downside is it's only for DnD but they advertise just that so it does what's on the package ;) Yes I became a fanboi - if foundry fixes itself I'll swap for big campaigns but nothing beats AboveVTT for the quick stuff and Foundry has a long way to go (without paying for a server) Hope that tale of AboveVTT helps just one DM :)
- (2024-09-27) Kyle Boyd: Absolutely fantastic VTT. Lightweight and user friendly!
- (2024-07-22) Jonah Harris Martin: This is the best VTT out there for me. The integration with DND beyond is great. Only 4 stars instead of 5 as players tend to need to refresh a couple of times in a 3 hour session which causes friction. But it's free and excellent.
- (2024-07-20) Arclein: Great extension. As of July, the extension was broken by D&D Beyond because of a change in their site programming, but the discord community has been incredibly helpful and the devs actively release betas to fix these issues. If you're having problems with the app, before review bombing, maybe take a little effort and try to troubleshoot your issue.
- (2024-07-20) Chris Brevard: Can't get any maps to load be it google drive, imgur, or dropbox. Can't bring up maps from the module straight from dnd beyond. Complete trash
- (2024-07-15) Bri “the dog” Guy: I own Foundry, and I have used Owlbear, but this VTT does absolutely everything I need and my players can connect to it easily with their laptops. We migrated to VTT during the pandemic, but even though we play around the table again now, we still use the VTT because we like it. I do recommend you do an export every time you do a lot of work then store that to the cloud. In case your PC dies, that's the only way to get what you have back. I use a lot of the stuff from Forgotten Adventures and can simply build the details of my maps right in the browser by adding map assets as tokens. Easily my favorite VTT.
- (2024-07-13) Ian Browne: great functionality
- (2024-05-23) Sean Helme: Replaced Roll20. Huge upgrade.
- (2024-05-17) mark jetzer: After using Roll20, Foundry, Owl Bear Rodeo and the DNDbeyond Maps- Above VTT is by far the best one I've used. I don't want to say the others are bad. AboveVTT has all the right tools and ease of use. It may lack in some area. If You're all-in on DNDBeyond for books, characters, etc. AboveVTT is THE Solution. DND should just buy this and make it standard.
- (2024-05-14) Magnus Grønli: Great VTT!
- (2024-03-28) Gregory Tate: Used to be 5 stars here. Now, Above VTT doesn't allow me to enter copied notes from the source books or even write my own notes on the maps. Cannot place some tokens anymore. Many of my character and NPC tokens have turned into "soap bubbles" with no faces on them. What is happening??? Can't you guys fix this?
- (2024-03-26) Allen Zubert: Game changer for an extremely detail oriented DM like myself.
- (2024-03-22) Dom Tooze: This is free (in itself - it benefits massively from a subscription to D&D Beyond and any content owned there), and it's also the best VTT I've played with. It's mostly intuitive, it works well on my main PC and my laptops, and it honours my time. What do I mean by that? It allows me to import maps and tokens I own, it allows me to run play in just one tab (rather than the 5+ I needed when using DDB's Maps Alpha), and the devs and community are incredibly quick to offer their support in the Discord channel. It's a rare occasion that I'd choose to support on Patreon, even though that offers no extra benefit - it's just that good!
- (2024-02-07) Dani W: I have Foundry and FGU, but this is so much easier to get started using, especially when I'm introducing new players to D&D. All of my books are on D&D Beyond, and with characters created there anyway, using this extension is preferable to trying to copy everything over to a standalone VTT. I'm a Patreon supporter and grateful for the ongoing development and support the AVTT team delivers!
- (2024-01-26) TheAceIsHere _ (ZanarkandAce): Been using this for over a year with mixed results. Far better than nothing, but now using music completely breaks any and all sources (Maps included) that are pulled from the google drive. even just changing from one song to another tends to make the whole thing act as if I have the permissions on the drive set to private for 30 min or so. Was this why all my music disappeared on one of these updates? Maybe, but to have all that tine I spent on my music undone, then to waste more time loading my music back just to break the whole thing is.. Frustrating, to put it mildly
- (2024-01-23) Elijah Morrissey: The only lightweight-enough VTT for a laptop to run, as far as I can find, but also has great a feature set (simple line-of-sight, choice of either manual or auto-fog of war, great compendium of monsters and added items, and easy DDB integration with character sheets. Incredible work for free - support on Patreon if you can!
- (2024-01-22) Carl Johansson: Use it every single session, even if it's IRL.
- (2024-01-17) Hopalong P. R.: Great, spotty, but great when it does work. I've been running online campaings for a couple months now, and its been mostly good. Kinda took a plunge with connecting to google drive recently, but here's hoping by the time you read this it's not a problem anymore!
- (2024-01-17) scotty riddell: Love it! But nothing is working at the moment. What's going on?
- (2024-01-14) Tom: Things were going fine until I picked my game back up after the holidays. Now everything that I've shared from my google drives (which has all the same share/permissions) won't load. Music, tokens, maps - all unusable. I can't find any info about this anywhere, or how to fix it.
- (2023-12-30) Ian Francis: Absoultely perfect! Ran a 1.5 year campaign with this extension and it went flawlessly!
- (2023-12-01) Csbab: Best VTT rn. Light weight and simple but does like everything and easy to understand. Plus constant improvements by the devs.
- (2023-11-16) Dave Hudson: AVTT is an amazing open source/community supported VTT. It has an amazing functionality set and is improved constantly. The community around this VTT is great and helpful. Best of all this VTT is easy to use for DMs and players. UVTT map support (Dungeon Alchemist partnership, sound board, animated map support, Open D&D monster/stat block support, built in video/audio chat, and much more.) Literally Every update brings functionality that makes my life better as a DM!
- (2023-10-12) Mac Cole (Maczerker): Has so many of the features Ive needed as a DM that every other "simple" browser VTT doesnt, easy to setup and use without having to know how to script at all.

- (2023-09-22) Aubrey Frio: I did my first ever session as a DM with people who haven't played D&D before. It was incredibly simple to get started and the ability to do encounters was absolutely brilliant!

- (2023-09-15) Desiree: This was so simple and quick to use. Lot of free maps and the fact that it works so well with d&dbeyond, it so wonderful. I can create and encounter in dnd beyond and it imports all the monsters to the screen. So amazing!

- (2023-07-16) William: I hosted my first remote session with AboveVTT on Friday after moving 10 hours away from my group in June. We are mid-campaign so I was nervous about the remote move. I was also sad because I really enjoyed hand-drawing maps and having painted figures. All my fears are now gone. AboveVTT exceeded all expectations and my players enjoyed the session greatly. I had no bugs as described in previous reviews and the integration with D&D Beyond was flawless. 10/10 would recommend.

- (2023-06-01) bonkerstheclown mcpickle: Above VTT is functionally average. The issue with it is that the dice are completely broken. I'm pretty sure I've rolled more 2's on a D20 to hit roll than all other numbers combined. Just before this, to prove my point, started rolling and just kept rerolling until I got a result that was 11+. That took 7 rolls. So I keep rolling. Now I'm seeing how long until I get a 19 or a 20. The answer is 37 rolls. So it takes 37 times to get a result that is 1 in 10. Okay fine, so how about getting that magical 1 in 20 roll of 20?? That took 57 tries. How many 1's and 2's along the way? LOTS OF THEM. Consistently rolling this bad suck all the joy out of playing D&D. And it's not like this was just me saying, "Gee I wonder how fair the VTT/Beyond Dice are??" I came into this review KNOWING it was broken after being forced to play on this hell-spawned extension for months and months. I knew exactly what my little test run would look like. Six 1's. Ten 2's. One 19. One 20. It's the fact that it's so consistent that's infuriating. As a sometime GM I will never ever ever subject my players to this hell. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY FIX YOUR DAMN DICE ROLLER!!!
