• (2023-10-17) Dylan Murphy: I love everything this extension does but there is just 1 thing that makes me keep it disabled most of the time. And that is the inability to click my own message to see that I am able to remove it which also confirms that it actually went through. The reason is so many streamers block a lot of random words from chat and many times a completely normal or respectable comment will not go through and you wont even know it. The only way to check is to click on your message and if it shows you are able to remove it then you know it went through and did not get silently censored. It is also the way to check if you are muted/banned from chat or not, since YouTube doesn't notify users when they've been muted from chat. Add this ability and I will change the rating to 5 stars.

Review for version 2.3.1 Still not fixed. Review for version 2.3.0 Good update for translation but it translate wrong. I choose English but they translate Indonesian. Same with other languages. I'll change the review if the problem fixed. For now, it's okay.

• (2022-01-27) Ginseng: Amazing -- clearly the reviews show that people don't know where to find the extension settings, since most of the things people complain about can be customized in settings. My only issue is the ~2 second delay in sending messages, but it's still worth it to be able to watch streams without stuttering thanks to CPU overflow. I understand that it's probably an API limitation, but I would love to see less message-sending delay, and the ability to superchat etc. from the Hyperchat box. Great extension overall; keep up the good work!

• (2022-01-14) Jhazat: It did indeed heavily reduce CPU usage of the chat like it said, at the cost of making everything else about it considerably worse, with at the time I downloaded it, no way I could find to change any options anywhere. It definitely has potential if I could actually customize anything about it, but with a simple TamperMonkey script to hide the SC bar you basically get the same amount of CPU reduction with no loss in features compared to this extension that removes all function for only form.

• (2021-08-28) Claire Crowles: I like the extension because it makes the live chat bearable (which usually lags even on my pc despite it being quite a powerful pc), but as another reviewer said, the messages in the chat (yours and others') appear very late. I'm guessing this is to reduce CPU usage too, but it's really frustrating to be even 6-10 messages late compared to the streamer and the whole chat.

• (2021-05-31) Hernani Roy Roxas: It does what it claims to do very well, and made live chat bearable to open on my toaster laptop. However, it doesn't seem very polished, I can live without seeing the avatars, but the message sending delay is really painful. The alternating backgrounds do increase readability and I liked that, however you can't see superchats for some reason. It needs a bit more tweaks, but it really does optimize the live chat, just keep in mind the few concessions in doing so.

• (2021-05-27) Антон Савельев: This extension fully changes how youtube chat looks, and all changes seem to be for the worst: - Removes avatars - Makes the text smaller and less readable - Adds alternating black and gray background to messages which is a good intention, but the gray is too bright, vibrates with green usernames and adds too much visual clutter and impairs readability - Chat messages are misaligned vertically within their background boxes, either up or down, always off center - Pressing chat function buttons such as "toggle timestamps" breaks the functionality outright. - Most important: No options to tweak the visual presentation of the chat. tldr very poor presentation and a direct visual downgrade to the original chat. I cannot in good conscience recommend this extension to anyone.

Ideally there should be an "original youtube" style where basically everything stays the same (fonts, colors, sizes, etc) and only CPU usage is optimized.

Latest issues

• (2023-01-24, v:2.6.8) BANNED4LIFE: Some messages not coming through
  Everything has worked fine for me for a while, but I recently noticed something that may have been happening all along. Some messages simply don't come through with HC enabled even in Live Chat mode. Only way I was able to tell is a streamer was reading every message in a stream and was reading ones I couldn't see so I disabled HC and there was the messages I didn't see before and when I reenabled HC then I could still see them. Maybe happening when messages come through at the same time? Idk, kinda annoying tho and makes me not want to use it if im missing messages.

  HC is not blocking messages from blocked users. Switched between HC and normal chat to confirm. Regular chat the user's messages were being blocked but switching to HC that users messages were coming through. Is it a bug on my end or an issue?

  So I'm watching Coco's stream who has set her chat to members-only mode and I know that the feature to distinguish members and admins in chat is available where members' names are green admins are yellow. However, I noticed that a lot of messages come in where the names are white. At first I thought it was a bug where some members appear as white in chat but by reading some of the messages I could tell they were spam from antis. I don't know how this extension works in the backend but is it possible that spam messages are being picked up through whatever API you are using? Possibly spam messages that somehow are being sent through some other API regardless of the members-only filter and still picked up by Youtube?

  Good day and thanks for your work! I am using the version bundled with LiveTL. I feel that for youtube's dark theme, the alternating black/gray backgrounds of chat messages are way too contrasting. Please consider making the gray background darker, or giving the user control over precise background color. Also, it seems that the text size is smaller than youtube's default, which compromises readability. Also, as I'm using the LiveTL bundled version, as of now Hyperchat conveys no information whatsoever to the user as of what exactly it does, which I found highly confusing. Thanks in advance.
