Description from store A free Internet is a better Internet. This Chrome browser plugin removes paywalled content from Google search results. If you don’t want to pay for the story, the headline shouldn’t be an option. The business model of paywalls—i.e. annoy the user with a bait-and-switch ad a hundred times, when they convert and pay every month until they die—hinders the internet’s ability to be a free and open experience. Hacker Noon believes that if the user doesn’t want to run into a paywall, they should be able to filter paywalled content out of its search results and newsfeeds. This plugin removes known paywalled sites from your Google results. The Free Internet Plugin is open sourced on Hacker Noon’s github. Suggestions to improve the plugin are much appreciated!

  • (2021-10-09) Julie Siebel: In my first Chrome search, WSJ came up, as did NYT cooking, and both are paywalled. WAPO also came up, but I have a sub to that one. I couldn't find any obvious way to add sites to be removed from search, or if it was actually removing something I wanted, to add them back. Gets 2 stars because I reserve 1 star for things that actually break the browser.

  • (2021-05-13) Linh Dao Smooke: AMAZING. 🖕🖕🖕 paywalls. The internet should be free - it is that plain and simple. Content should be accessible and not behind popups, sidesbars, paywalls, newsletters blocks, what have yous. This will help so much with accessibility for people from all over the world and not just a few rich bros in the west who can afford paywalls!
  • (2021-05-11) David Smooke: this removes paywalled sites from my search results.

  • (2021-06-21, v:1.03) Bradley D. Thornton: I wanted to reach out before I leave a review. The plugin doesn't appear to work.
I searched through Hackernoon but there's really no contact enabled area to reach you. I'll follow up here by opening an issue on Github and wait to hear back before posting a review here. The plugin doesn't appear to work for me on two different Chromium based browsers that support Chrome plugins - Vivaldi and Brave. Without going into great detail prior to hearing back from you, when I search on <name of blocked paywall site. about, I actually receive plenty of links in the SERPs to those sites - i.e., they're not blocked in my search results in DDG or StartPage. Please advise. You can reach me at: Matrix: @tallship:matrix.org XMPP: [email protected] (use OMEMO - I do). Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience so that I can be the seventh person to post a review of this plugin.
