Quickly look up Japanese words on any text page by activating the add-on (理 button on the toolbar or Alt+R). Press 'Shift' or 'Enter' to view kanji or name information.
Forked from rikaikun in 2017, Rikaichamp includes:
• Pitch accent information
• Support for non-English dictionaries
• Dictionaries that update automatically every week (fetching just the updated entries)
• Overhauled dictionary entry display to make it much easier to read
• Automatic translation of Japanese-era years into Gregorian years (e.g. 昭和56年、令和元年、平成三十一年)
• Recognition of many more grammatical forms (e.g. vs-c verbs like 兼した, irregular verbs like いらっしゃいます, continuous forms like 食べてた, ん as a negative form like 分からん, 知らん, words with ー like じーちゃん, 頑張ろー, そーゆー, ぬ verbs, とく・どく forms, causative passive, させる for verbs ending in す e.g. 起こさせる)
• Automatic preview of name entries when there is a better match in the name dictionary
• Handling of a much wider range of characters including ㋕, ㌀, ㋿, 𠏹沢, 8月, B級グルメ, オーサカ
• Completely localized into Japanese (so you can study Japanese while you study Japanese!) and Simplified Chinese
• Better prioritization of more common matches
• Support for displaying romaji
• Overhauled copy feature so you can select the entry and format you wish to copy
• Smarter popup positioning
• Support for vertical text and SVG text
• Much lower memory usage (> 90% less)
• Kanji data for Kanji kentei, Conning references, educational levels, reworked kanji components etc.
• Overhauled settings window to make it more intuitive
• Better isolation of styles so that the popup always looks correct
• Improved handling of ruby text in YouTube
• Hundreds of other fixes

- (2025-07-25) Bill Swartz: This thing is AWESOME!!! Like head and shoulders above any on-screen dictionary I've ever used. Definitions are great, unlike other onscreen readers it always works, and that it offers pitch-accent and stroker order is a major bonus.
- (2025-06-16) ヤオム: The best dictionary. I'm amazed. ---------- Doesn't work right now. No idea why.
- (2025-06-10) Mohammad Mansouri: Much more convenient than looking up in online dictionaries, a great help when reading webnovels and all sort of immersion Can't thank you guys enough for making this
- (2025-05-20) Daniel Smith: I use it daily to read Japanese and study. It's just about perfect. I prefer holding down Ctrl key to engage it so it only pops up when I need it (which is a lot...).
- (2025-04-18) Silvio Carrera: groundbreaking, lifesaving, perfect
- (2025-03-31) obiriku san: Best extension for non Japanese speaker! I have been using it for many years now. Thank you!
- (2025-02-28) Aidan S: It's the nicest popup dictionary extension I've used so far, but there is currently no option that I can see to have a monolingual dictionary, so I find myself having to return to Yomichan. Would be great if you're able to add this feature in the future.
- (2025-01-17) Igal Vidator: Brilliant extension. Please support it for many years to come.
- (2024-11-10) Jannick: Doesn't work in Google search results in Opera browser. Quite frustrating as I love the add-on otherwise.
- (2024-11-09) Kaito Vuong: PEAK app
- (2024-09-14) Amir Sabbagh: PEAK!
- (2024-09-12) Anggi A. Firmansyah: fell in love on the first sight (or try)
- (2024-09-04) Maxime: A great extension, thank you so much for your hard work! 1. Do you think it would be feasible to bring Japanese audio samples to this extension? Being able to hear the terms as I hover with the right pitch accent and repeating them would really help me in my learning process, even if it just plays the dictionary form of words or if not all words have an audio. If you implement it you could add a button to play the audio on click as well, because not everyone might want it to autoplay. 2. It would be nice to be able to select an expression in Japanese in text and see the matching items for that instead of what the mouse is over. That would help avoid mistakes when guessing what to select (for example in 日本語基本文法辞典 it incorrectly selects 基本文 instead of 基本). It could either be an alternative to "search on hover" selectable in the settings, or selecting text could simply always take precedence over "search on hover" whenever any text is selected. Have a great day ^^
- (2024-08-11) Lee: Kino, but will this ever function with Anki?
- (2024-07-26) Paul Benedict Jabines: i hope we can have an on-click pop up so i can use it in my phone using the kiwi browser
- (2024-06-30) Марія Гірняк: The best app I have ever seen in my life to incorporate my learning of Japanese to the next level. One question remains, is it possible to enable the reader in the apps on the PC, like LINE or Whatsapp? Seems to not working. I am looking forward to be separate app for the media programs!
- (2024-06-23) Brown: I love this app so much! It's definitely my favorite translation app!! Are there any plans on incorporating the following? 1) JLPT level for words For example, 平均 would show JLPT N3. I noticed Kanji already has this feature. 2) Show the stroke order for Kanji I noticed the Kanji shows how much strokes it has, however, it does not show the order.
- (2024-06-13) Baturay Kumbaroglu: Phenomenal work- super responsive and intuitive! My only complaint is that in case a dictionary data update is needed, that json file is super duper suspicious so it's blocked by secured networks (e.g. workplace) but you can hotspot or home wifi your way around it of course. Other than that, it works great :)
- (2024-04-12) Lincoln Nguyen: It stopped working/activating, please fix! :(
- (2024-02-05) Natures Miracle: I've tried many and this by far is the best!!! 10ten, Migaku, Yomichan. 10ten pops open fast, it has great list of dictionaries and easy to read. The only thing I wish is for a feature to play the audio of the hiragana then this would be perfect! I use this with Netflix dual-sup type of extension so I can watch TV shows while learning words.
- (2024-02-04) Eithan: looks great! im sad i cant see kanji strokes or that i cant click on kanji components and see their definitions/strokes other than that amazing!
- (2024-01-06) Bruce Ong: This is really well-made with many customization options too. Appreciate the work put in to help make Japanese learning a lot easier.
- (2024-01-02) José Roland: THIS FFFIRE
- (2024-01-01) Salma Zeroual: It wont work for me, can you make a video explaining it?
- (2023-12-26) _ ffflowerfields _: It dictionary itself works fine. I really like the pitch accents, which are surprisingly absent for most dictionaries and textbooks. However, it keeps bugging out and sometimes doesn't turn on when I click the icon. So I go to the extension options to click update or toggle the toolbar icon to make the extension turn back on. Removing and re-downloading doesn't help. Could it be a browser thing? I currently use Edge. And I remember it used to work fine on Edge until a couple months ago... It's just a mild inconvenience for an otherwise very helpful tool.
- (2023-10-25) Greg Morford: This is a great extension. I have been a Yomichan user for a long time, but have recently decided to try 10ten, as i've heard quite a few good reviews saying it's better in almost every way. So far i would agree with 1 major issue, possibly one of the most important: Visibility. I find the text contrast and readability to be significantly worse than Yomichan and other similar popup dictionary tools. The text is thin and light and really hard to read compared to most other extensions. So far i haven't found a way to change this other than changing the color theme. The dark theme solves it as a work-around, but it would be nice if the default theme could have it's contrast and visibility boosted a bit.

- (2023-09-08) Duri Yudha Nandhita: Used rikaikun for a long time. What sold me is the inclusion of pitch accent. A suggestion/ask: do you guys plan to include Anki integration support?

- (2023-08-02) Fernando: It's perfect! There are some few words without pitch accent, but it's not a problem and makes my studies SO MUCH FASTER, because we all know it's not that simple to find pitch accent markings in Japanese. The customizations and hotkeys are also quite useful. Thank you!

- (2023-07-31) HMS Transit: Unusable. First it won't show me the kanji components like it used to. Then, it won't show up at all after I reinstalled it. The problem still persists when I tried reinstalling it for the 2nd time

- (2023-06-12) Lakad Matatag: I always want to use hover dictionary like this but Rikaikun and Yomichan weren't working for me. These extensions are so intrusive that when I hover over the words it is so buggy that it becomes impossible to use these extensions. Your extension is the first one allows me to use this kind of dictionary, which is vital to my setup to learn Japanese, as I don't need to switch between tabs when looking for the meaning. I cannot thank you enough for your wonderful work. Please keep up your good work.

- (2023-02-05) Andy Benson: Perfect for my needs. Tried yomichan and in comparison this is a lot easier to get going and easier on the eyes imo, no need to install dictionaries and therefore feels a lot less bloaty - this just works right out of the box. Fantastic work. Thank you.

- (2022-11-12) Jonathan McIntyre: In its current state this extension is incredible. Easily chipping away at a complicated syllabary that takes a significant personal effort to even begin to recognize the most important characters, right there at the tip of your mouse cursor. A wealth of information is presented an easy to read format that helps you reinforce all of the intricacies of the language, as you begin to learn them and recognize the patterns. Toggling on the additional Romaji text really helps to speed up the rate at which you can memorize individual symbols, by having a reminder always ready at a flash. 理解チャンプ、「最高」!
