Select any text to search Wikipedia. Read full articles right where you are.
Fast, versatile, no context-switching. Private, no tracking, only contacts wikipedia.org.
1. Search
- Select any text to search on Wikipedia.
- Use language detection or choose manually from 300+ Wikis.
- Press Alt- or Option-Key to add another text to your search.
- Presents more than one result, explore multiple angles.
2. Read
- Click a result, see its Wikipedia page in a sidebar, no context-switching.
- Full version of Wikipedia, no summary, click any link.
- All external links are opened in a new tab.
3. Explore
- Select any text in the Wikipedia article to search the same way described above.
- Automatically lists 99 related articles at the bottom, enough to get lost.
4. Sleep
- Click the extension icon in the browser's address bar to disable it for all pages.
- Press Alt-D to do the same.
- No tracking, no data stored outside of your computer.
- Only contacts wikipedia.org.

- (2024-05-01) T.A. Thor: Distracted Reader is a fantastic extension that, with two clicks of the mouse, provides you access to the Wikipedia article on a given topic. That is, whenever you come across a term or topic that you wish to know more about, you need only highlight the term in question (i.e., double-click the term, or click-and-drag over the term/phrase) to gain immediate access to a list of Wikipedia articles related to said term. Even better, choosing a particular article from this list automatically embeds the contents of the chosen Wikipedia article into the current page, meaning you can read the Wikipedia article side-by-side to the content you were already reading. This feature of Distracted Reader makes basic, introductory research on any topic faster, easier, and much less burdensome. The Distracted Reader extension has become a staple of my browsing experience, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I highly recommend giving it a go to see if it improves your experience as much as it has mine. This is an easy five-out-of-five star extension for me. Thank you to the creator of Distracted Reader!
