Collapse your unfocused groups.

Image from store Auto Collapse for Tab Groups
Description from store Auto Collapse makes the tab bar less distracting by collapsing all unfocused Tab Groups (the feature introduced in Chrome 89). When you click on an ungrouped tab or a tab within one group, all other tab groups get collapsed. Changelog: *v1.1: Fixed timing bug during tab group focus.

  • (2022-11-27) Marilyn Gerrard: Great concept and worked well for a few hours but then completely stopped working. Please fix the extension
  • (2022-10-08) Matias Morant: would be good if groups also collapsed when you click on a group (not only on a tab inside)
  • (2022-08-23) Robert De Niro: Seems to work
  • (2022-07-18) Dmitriy DHS: Awesome extension, works like a charm! It'd be nice if there was a way to disable it temporarily - like a click on the extension icon in the bar to toggle auto-collapsing (sometimes you just have to jump between the groups but disabling/enabling the extension itself is not easy at all). Thanks for the work!
  • (2022-07-18) Bruno De Angelis: I'm not sure where to file bugs, so I'll do it here. Everything works perfectly except when switching tabs using the Tab Search (Cmd+Shift+A), if the tab I'm going to is from another tab group, the previous tab group doesn't collapse (basically the extension doesn't work in that scenario.) It'd be amazing if that could be fixed. Thank you!!
  • (2022-06-05) Telmo Amaral: It works and it's really useful. It should be an option built into Chrome. Minor issue: often a small artifact shows up to the right of the last auto-collapsed group (example here: https://ibb.co/mFRv9QY). It seems that a bit from one of the tab icons in the group stays visible after the group is collapsed. Using Chrome 102. It would be nice if this extension worked better together with the "Open Last Tab" extension. As it is, the two extensions kind of work together, but nor perfectly.
  • (2022-05-26) Stealthbat: First of all, I love this extension. However, as of late, it's stopped working whenever I first open up chrome. After I manually collapse all my group tabs, it starts working again. But once I close chrome it stops working till I've re-launched chrome and manually collapsed all group tabs. This extension use to work perfectly. But after I had to reinstall my OS, it stopped working. Please, please, PLEASE fix this! I beg you!

  • (2022-04-10) Azhe Kun: I like Auto Collapse for Tab Groups Can limit expanded tab group to current tab group and prev tab group?
  • (2022-03-04) Derek Kelly: Cannot get this to work on Version 99.0.4844.51 (Official Build) (64-bit).
  • (2022-02-17) Ryan Ceroky: Works as described and can be useful. I would love to be able to limit the collapse to just one window, instead of all Chrome windows. When using multiple monitors with multiple windows and groups, I often want to look at 2 different windows at the same time. It would be helpful to only collapse groups within one window, not across all windows, thus keeping one group expanded in each window at all times.
  • (2022-01-07) Nenad Bogdanovski: Just found out about it, really usefull!!! Thanks
  • (2021-11-30) Haim Zamir: Want to use it, but it just isn't working for me on Chrome 95 at all. I've tried disabling/re-enabling, creating new groups, etc. Nothing. Maybe just maybe I'm different because I'm using a pair of chrome profiles? Extensions are enabled separately on each. I've got it on both profiles, but neither of them work.
  • (2021-11-13) Kerry Johnson: Works well! Two options that would make it perfect for me: 1. Auto-collapse all but last active tab (this is handy when you are referencing and moving back and forth between two tabs) 2. Auto-collapse timer (prevent collapsing right away, helpful for misclicks)
  • (2021-11-12) Sello Mkantjwa: Works perfectly. Thank you very much. - Sello
  • (2021-10-06) Vladimir (cuqi): Very useful.
  • (2021-10-03) Hayden Anderson: Bless you. Exactly what I was looking for. Works seamlessly.
  • (2021-09-03) Kumar Rao: Amazing !! Took me at least an hour of Google searches before I found this extension which works right out of the box. It was frustrating to have tabs from so many groups I didn't want open and having to click them every time to close besides cluttering up my browser. Great job TabGroups Labs, keep it going!
  • (2021-08-20) Kristopher Paulsen: Literally works perfectly right-out-of-the-box. Love it, really helps when using heavy tabgroup based workflows!
  • (2021-08-07) Jaky Astik: Love this. Have been looking for your extensions for my profiles since I installed in one chrome workspace. Great work!

Plugin is not working. Installed and enabled plugin, quit and reopened chrome, created separate tab groups, and opening a tab group does not collapse other groups. The groups just open as they do for default behavior.

  • (2022-06-07, v:1.1) Stealthbat: Found 2 Bugs
After 8 straight hours of testing and troubleshooting, I have found 2 bugs in the "Auto Collapse for Tab Groups" extension. Both happen with the "Continue where you left off" setting turned on. The first bug is when Chrome is launched, all group tabs will open all at once and will only close when manually collapsed. This is triggered by launching Chrome with the "Auto Collapse for Tab Groups" extension enabled and also having any extension enabled that involves altering/changing or tampering with Google Chrome's "New Tab" behavior. This includes but isn't limited to, extensions for new tab redirecting for changing what site is displayed on creating a new tab, extensions for auto switching to new tabs to automatically switch to the new tab you just created, and any extension that creates its own custom "New Tab Page". Launching chrome with any of those extensions enabled will stop this extension from auto-collapsing the group tabs on launch. The 2nd bug is basically, with a fresh install of Chrome and only the "Auto Collapse for Tab Groups" extension running, the extension is failing to trigger when Chrome is launched. After chrome has fully loaded, once the user clicks on a tabbed page (not a group tab), then the extension will start to work. Please note that even with the extension not working when Chrome is started, Chrome will remember which Group Tabs were collapsed and which ones were not when Chrome was closed last. But Chrome will not collapse (when launched) any group tabs that were open when Chrome was previously closed. I would deeply appreciate it if this matter could be looked into and fixed as I cannot live without this extension, but I also feel the same about some of those other extensions. Please look into this. I would deeply appreciate it if you would. Thank you for your time.
  • (2022-01-12, v:1.1) Dmitry Berezhnoy: Multiple windows
I have 2 Chrome windows, W1 and W2 for simplicity When I open a tab in a group in W2, the current group in W1 gets collapsed even if a tab from that group is selected in W1 Suggestion: treat each Chrome window separately P.S. Thanks for the awesome extension, it's a life saver
