DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials for Edge

CRX id

Description from extension meta

Simple and seamless privacy protection for your browser.

Description from store Tired of being tracked online? We can help.   At DuckDuckGo, we believe online privacy should be simple. That's why our extension has one single purpose — protecting your privacy in Edge. Together, these privacy essentials seamlessly help prevent your personal information from being exposed during everyday online activity.  • Search with DuckDuckGo by Default — install, and we'll set your default search engine and homepage to DuckDuckGo Search so you can start your Internet searches without being tracked.  • Escape Online Tracking — block hidden trackers lurking on the websites you visit (e.g., when you click on search results). Stop companies behind those trackers before they use sneaky tactics to try to collect and sell your data.  • Enforce Encryption — force sites to use an encrypted connection when possible. Unwanted network snoopers, like Internet Service Providers, won't be able to trace which specific pages you go to or what you do once you get there.  • Signal Your Privacy Preference with GPC — built into the extension, Global Privacy Control (GPC) intends to help you express your legal opt-out rights automatically. This will tell websites not to sell or share your personal information under future legal frameworks (e.g., CCPA, GDPR) in various states or countries.  That's how DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials delivers on our single-purpose promise to provide seamless privacy protection in Edge. It’s privacy, simplified.   ---------------------------------------------------------------- Please note that tracker blocking requires certain permissions, but these permissions work solely on your local device. We do not collect or share any personal browsing information ourselves, as per our strict privacy policy: https://duckduckgo.com/privacy More About Our Technology • Tracker Radar: https://spreadprivacy.com/duckduckgo-tracker-radar/ • Smarter Encryption: https://spreadprivacy.com/duckduckgo-smarter-encryption/ • Block FloC: https://spreadprivacy.com/block-floc-with-duckduckgo/ • GPC: https://spreadprivacy.com/announcing-global-privacy-control/ More About DuckDuckGo • About Us: https://duckduckgo.com/about/ • Privacy Newsletter: https://duckduckgo.com/newsletter • Privacy Policy: https://duckduckgo.com/privacy/ • GitHub: https://github.com/duckduckgo/duckduckgo-privacy-extension If you just want to use DuckDuckGo Search as your default search engine in Microsoft Edge, you do not need this extension and can follow these install instructions instead: https://duckduckgo.com/install.

  • (2021-11-02) Takchawee: After checking the stored cookies on my p.c. this extension does not appear to block much. Many cookies remain and as far as the problem people keep having with it being turned off. Just manually turn it on it should stay (it did for me).But I have moved on to just BING. That is ducks engine anyways. Plus privacy badger.
  • (2021-09-10) 融: Cannot change other search engine after installing this addon and it always change urls to https and then break my wifi login.
  • (2021-08-03) Denise: Microsoft keeps turning DuckDuckGo And Extensions off
  • (2021-07-13) John: Microsoft Edge keeps turning off this app. This extensions does not work properly on Microsoft Edge for me. How do I stop this from happening?
  • (2021-06-01) Gregory: Issue resolved. Very pleased with this extension. Appears to provide protection as advertised --------------------------------------------- Reporting an issue with Microsoft Edge 91 and this extension. (Note that I have been very pleased with this extension to this point—through Edge ver. 90.) When clicking on a link from a source external to the browser (e.g. texting application, email in email client external to the browser such as Mailbird or Outlook) the linked web page opens in a new tab AND a second new tab is also opened in Edge.) This problem was eliminated by disabling this extension, and could be again reproduced by enabling the extension. Note—this problem reappeared when I set DuckDuck Go as my default address bar search engine and, again, disappeared when I changed the default search engine to Bing.
  • (2021-05-22) Aaron: The reason microsoft edge marks this as dangerous is because it changes your search settings. THAT IS ALL. NOTHING ELSE
  • (2021-02-09) Richard: if Rush - 77 AM NY - recommends this I trust and use it. Seems to work very well ... we all need as much security in this unsecure online world we are all living in . I am also using a VPN at all times ... so this may not be necessary but it does not slow my computer - I will continue using this ........no more tracking .. no more advertising ... no more useless **** being thrown at me all day long ....
  • (2021-01-19) Rocky: I have been tired as hell at all the snooping and data mining companies that take advantage of everybody they can, and I don't believe it's and issue of free speech, but is actually an issue of making money on all of the data they sell to the highest bidders, as often as they can. Making a profit with an app or extension is one thing, but doing so without the expressed provision of it's okay, is only stealing data to make money. Even worse is stopping anyone from freely expressing their dissent, their opinions, their dislike ought to be abolished with the offenders paying into a victims fund to pay back their ill gotten gains with a law made out of whole cloth to deny others free speech is an abomination of our rights in OUR CONSTITUTION, not one that only the very powerful, wealthy, the people who do this should lose all of their money and find out how the rest of us as well as all others around the world feel when we are treated only as profits Without free speech, we have nothing!!!
  • (2020-12-31) Stephen: Great Search App I wouldn't Trust anything else!
  • (2020-12-20) Alex: A FANTASTIC browser with great results while protecting my online activity and information. This is the second best brow4ser on the market place. The very best browser is BRAVE browser which actually pays me crypto currency (in the form of Brave Tokens which I can redeem for cash and pay stuff). After all why spend time on line and not get back something for your time? Great search engine with great privacy.
  • (2020-12-14) Mary: Duck Duck go does A Good Job💖 A 10 rating
  • (2020-12-11) Dieguez: Its actually a pretty good app because you can watch YouTube when YouTube doesn't let you watch what your looking for duckduck go do its job 😎. # keep it up duckduck go.
  • (2020-12-06) Brooklyn: The Edge browser does automatically disable Duck Duck Go and calls it a dangerous extension... that makes me think MS maybe up to no good as well, I bet they will not reply. #EdgeExit
  • (2020-12-04) caffrey: 东西是好东西,但是锁引擎很麻烦。用百度是hosts懒得改,也是有插件能净化百度搜索结果,用起来好了很多
  • (2020-12-02) Jim: Just love how MS Edge automatically disables this dangerous extension. Goodbye Edge.
  • (2020-12-02) Joseph: I've been using Duck Duck Go since my PC operated with Windows 7. I still like the privacy guards it provides.
  • (2020-11-14) bob: *edit Oops so initially it automatically turns off the extension and it links to a page telling you how to fix it..with bad directions! says click "Settings and more" then "extensions" i think i remember those same bad directions on the previous version of edge now..wow anyway. so i fooled around and found the switch to click it on. thanks no thanks whendoze.. ddg is awesome, micro-pinus sux. edge browser offered it on the first page of extensions and let me d/l it, then they turn it off and wont let me turn it back on! what a lowkey way to suppress competition. bill uses some real shiesty methods.
  • (2020-11-10) Dayanna: Microsoft initially turns the addon off as soon as you install it, but that's an easy fix. All you have to do is turn it on again and it will stay on until you get rid of it yourself. The only problem is that Microsoft doesn't actually grant you any privacy whether it's on or off, which is the whole purpose of downloading DuckDuckGo. Every time you use the addon you're still being recorded. I love Microsoft but what's the point of letting this addon be an option if it's incompatible with your browser?
  • (2020-10-16) Cheryl: I love DuckDuckGo What is wrong with the Microsoft? Unbelievable that you will not allow this to give us a search engine that is protecting our privacy. Does this mean you will provide us all with free protection if we get hacked. Step up to the plate. We didn't ask to have to purchase brand-new equipment because you wanted everyone to use your platform. I guess that's okay, because those that cannot afford a Mac suffer through endless updates after updates that apparently aren't concerned with security. I want to use DuckDuckGo as my default search engine, NOT Bing...Please, allow us to have this one little piece of freedom. This is still America for the time being!
  • (2020-10-12) Ben: use this on every device, unfortunately edge will not let me use it :( which is sad because the new edge seemed kinda nice so looks like i wont be using it
  • (2020-10-11) cool: Just using the search engine does no good, your web browsers collect data. Of course edge blocks it when its installed because they want to collect and sell it. Now we just need to be able to sell our data ourselves if we choose.
  • (2020-10-11) Andy: This extension causes weird video playback issues on some but not all webpages, Youtube for example seems fine. It will cause a weird liner or rectangular box to flash and it looks a little similar to screen tearing. I went through my extensions one by one and by process of elimination I found this one to be the culprit. Please patch this.
  • (2020-10-06) Lee: It has potential, but I like to know what links I have already visited. You can set a color for visited links alright, but even though you save the setting, it will forget that on the next start of the browser. ???
  • (2020-10-05) mark: Just when Americans need all the help they can get to protect their privacy (we have so little left) Microsoft pulls this, and cannot think of a better excuse than it will change some initial settings that were preset upon installation. No belief in allowing the individual to decide what is best for themselves. C'mon, give the user choice in the matter. Meanwhile, I guess I'll just switch back to a browser that gives me some freedom of choice. Thanks Again!!!
  • (2020-09-17) 铮: 对于长期挂代理的用户来说还是很好用的,界面干净美观,叹号功能也实用
  • (2020-09-14) kevin: edge will not let me add it
  • (2020-09-07) mohamad: +989900548064
  • (2020-08-29) Christopher: As soon as I added this, Windows turned it off "for my protection" Namely because it turns off Bing as the default search engine. Way to go M$! I'm so totally convinced that you've installed this browser out of generous beneficence. I look forward to putting more privacy extensions, and having the browser try to reject them.
  • (2020-08-26) Eddie: 锁搜索引擎,必须差评
  • (2020-08-25) Hui: I use this on multiple platforms. Very streamlined and best of all - it works.
