Reasons for this are mainly:

- Enable or disable functionalities that should only be available for developers
Overall this practice is called using "feature-toggles" or "feature-flags".
One way to activate or deactivate such feature-flags is by adding specific URL parameters to the URL of the website, e.g. https://your-website.com/?my-feature=1&my-other-feature=1
