Better YouTube Live is a browser extension, that strives to level up YouTube Live by augmenting it with a better, more customisable chat, a new homepage for followed streams, desktop notifications, and much more.
Better YouTube Live is a browser extension that enhances both YouTube Live and YouTube Gaming with features that enrich the experience of every viewer and chatter.
It does so by allowing the user to customise the most important aspects of YouTube Live, the chat and the streams directory.
Key features of Better YouTube Live are:
1. Customisable chat - You can change the look and the interface of the YouTube Live and YouTube Gaming chat, by tweaking each option to your liking
2. Chat themes - If tweaking each and every option (out of the 50+), is not your cup of tea then you can select one of the pre-defined themes that customise your chat in an instant
3. New homepage for followed streams - Every stream you follow via this extension shows up on the new homepage for livestreams that we create for you. No more do you have to look all over YouTube Live or YouTube Gaming to find your favourite streams.
4. Notifications - As soon as one of you favourited streams goes live, you get a desktop notification that informs you! No more missing emails, or notifications that pop up after 15 minutes!
5. Live status popup - If you pin our extension in the browser toolbar, then with just one click you can check the status of your followed streams, whether they are live or offline. This popup gives you the perfect small window that shows live streams at the top, and offline streams at the bottom, along with the latest streams your streamer had, for such a convenient access to VODs - and all of this while you're not even on YouTube!
6. BTTV global emotes - Currently the chat is capable of rendering global BTTV (Better TTV / Better Twitch TV) emotes, with support for FFZ (FrankerFaceZ) and 7TV coming very soon!
Oh and don't be confused, this extension works for both YouTube Live and YouTube Gaming, so it might as well be called Better YouTube Live and Better YouTube Gaming, but we had to settle for one name.

- (2022-12-04) Felina Faerlaingal: It does what it says but it's missing what I would think are some key features Like the ability to filter chat by type of users (guests, subs, etc) The ability to hide and show chat again. (I tried using youtube normal control to have this, but the hide chat option is broken because of the extension)
- (2022-12-02) Jose Landin: Unable to use unless you sign in. Registered, was sent a verification email, and upon clicking the link in the email, was sent to a 404 page. Unable to log in. Unsure how long it's been like this, but latest positive review was August 4 2022, so I hope this is just a minor hiccup.
- (2022-08-04) Roberto Neto: Hasn't been updated in a while, don't know if they've stopped developing it, but well, their custom emote menu (in their settings disable Youtube Chat Controls) doesn't show the member emotes (as in the streamer's sub emotes), which, for me at least, makes this option completely obsolete if you are a member of the channel, as you would have to remember the emotes "code" i.e :_happy: which is kinda hard when there are more than 30. Also there's no proper theater mode (like twitch), which you could technically fix with other extensions, but it doesn't seem to work properly (chat doesn't show up)

- (2022-02-18) Rafi Ashari: So this is my first time ever writing a review on an extension. I must admit, this extension is a Godsend in the terrible realm that is Youtube live chat. I like everything about this extension but there's just one thing that is extremely troublesome. This extension does not play nice with extensions like BTTV and 7TV. If you have these extensions installed in your browser, the BYL extension will bug out and will not display the text on Youtube live chat. The new BYL chat UI will still work, but just won't show the texts. Same thing will also happen if you have any extension that changes the Youtube live theater mode to mimic that of Twitch's. For cases with extensions that changes Youtube live theater mode to mimic Twitch, the extension will bug out and get overwritten by these theater mode extensions and reverting both the chat UI and texts to Youtube's original UI. So devs, to reproduce the bugs: simply have extensions that changes the Youtube live theater mode to mimic that of Twitch and or install the BTTV or 7TV extension and enable them for Youtube. Lately 7TV added a "True Theater Mode" function for Youtube users and that also bugs out the text in BYL.

- (2021-12-06) Jon AKA aRetroFELLOW: A much needed addition to the YouTube extension scene, as it has so much potential! The amount of customization options that are available for you to mess with until you get the YouTube chat to your own liking is great! The developer also has a Discord that they are looking to grow in order for there to be a direct line of contact between the developers and the users, which really makes it easier to report bugs and/or suggest features! Definitely give this a try if you're looking to make the YouTube live chat look a lot better, you have nothing to lose! This extension is really going place, it's only going to get better from here!
- (2021-11-30) COTTö: Youtube isn't ready to be a streaming platform yet, but this extension does its best to fix that. It's missing some small features atm, but future development seems promising. I would recommend trying it out if you are going to watch... uuuhhhh... certain popular streamer who is new to Youtube Gaming... yeah.

- (2021-11-11) REG BARCLAY: This is a much needed addition to the YouTube chat. It's main features and those set to be implemented soon have completely redefined how much better a live stream chat can be. It's easy customization has provided such a better means to adjust the chat sizing and colors. This paired with an extension such as YouTube Enhancer really tailors YouTube to exactly how you want it. Additionally the channel live monitor is an amazing feature that now replaces the inaccurate and delayed default live notifications you receive and click on, only to join and realize that the actual stream ended over an hour ago. This extension remedy's this and is set to greatly improve over time. The developer is very friendly, open to suggestions and criticism that many other developers may dismiss. I highly recommend that people try this extension as it will only continue to improve.
