Image from store Tabius - Automatic Tab Grouping Assistant
Description from store Tabius is a customizable and easy to use Tab Grouping assistant for Chrome. It is also open source! If you use tab grouping or couldn't use it due to lack of options, Tabius is a must have extension for you. The extension is packed with useful features like: ✔️ Automatically create new tab groups when you open a link in a new tab. ✔️ Auto Collapse inactive tab groups. ✔️ Limit the browser to only create groups if the new tab matches the original tab's domain. ✔️ Create custom tab grouping rules: always create tab groups with a specific name and color from your favorite websites! ✔️ Save your favorite tab groups and restore them for later use! ✔️ Don't want to create tab groups from a specific site? Create a blacklist from the settings or add the site to the blacklist right from the toolbar! ✔️ Option to close an existing tab group when there is only 1 tab left in it. ✔️ Limit maximum number of tabs allowed in a group. ✔️ Automatically name tab groups based on domain/subdomain or the full URL. ✔️ View current tab groups and act upon them by clicking on the extension icon right from the toolbar. ✔️ Sync all your settings, tab groups, and custom lists with browser. ✔️ ..and many more features. I created this extension from my need. I use tab groups all the time and the extension helps enhance this feature. If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to email me: [email protected]. This extension is made with ❤️ in Munich. What's new in v2.0.5 - Fixed width of popup when no tab groups are present - Other fixes. What's new in v2.0.1 - You can now use the opener tab's title as the group name. To do so, select "Group Opener's title" from Settings>Group Naming Convention What's new in version 2.0 - Tabius has gone through a major redesign. - The extension has been rebuilt from the ground up. - You can now save your favorite tab groups for later. - Amend saved tab groups. - The popup is now more useful. - "nameless" group naming option. - Fixes scrolling issue if custom rules get too long. - Lots of bug fixes.

  • (2023-10-19) Welp Halp: Great extension! It would be nice to have a setting for a minimum number of tabs before they start to get grouped. Quite frequently, I have around 1 tab opened in a new link (from the original tab), and with this extension, those 2 tabs immediately become a new group. And when I've done this a few other times, with different other tabs, the grouping creates a more cluttery UI. So a setting like adjusting the minimum number of tabs to 3 or 4, before the grouping begins would be really handy. Amazing extension though, and nice website too!
  • (2023-10-02) Attiq Khan: Thanks for developing this application. Only this which i loved in Opera is here. 👍
  • (2023-09-29) Ari Nava (emergingsea): Good, but I would like if I could minimize the group instead of closing it and then re-opening it. it makes it so if I have multiple groups I want to use and then close it will only open the last one I closed
  • (2023-09-21) Dmitry Platonov: Awesome! Best extension for tabs control.
  • (2023-09-20) Nicole Ahmed: Nice extension but not the best on the store. The order of groups displayed isn't the same as in the browser. From the extension window you can only open, minimise or close groups - other extensions allow moving to windows. Ideally we'd be able to move multiple tabs between groups in this window. FInally when I disabled this extension I got a adware popup for Super Agent So even though this is open source, I think there's some commercial connections going on for the dev
  • (2023-09-04) Sina Boromand: Its perfect bro Nice job Also i wish you could add some more flavor to it Requested Feature: If there is at least X number of tabs with same domain then group them , not start grouping tabs by one or two instances. Eg: User can set minmium of 3 tabs (or X custom number) then if the rules matched then group them. Thanks you Wish you the bests
  • (2023-08-27) Stephen: Incredible extension. I tried other auto grouping extensions such as Mark Tab Manager, but my browser became a mess as it tried to group already opened tabs and windows, and it did not play well with The Marvellous Suspender, which is a must have for me to reduce my memory footprint since I open LOTS of tabs. With Tabius, it's a totally different beast! The philosophy is very different, it groups tabs not by domain even though it says so in the configuration screen, but also temporally. An example: let's say you are on reddit, you are looking for open-source replacement softwares on Android, and you open lots of links to various softwares. All these tabs will be grouped together under a tab called "reddit" (which name you can change of course!). Although the group name does not reflect the content of the group, it reflects the provenance, the tabs are thematically grouped, so once you enter this group, you will fast remember what all the other tabs in this group are about! These groups are very useful to reorganize my browser windows and workflow, because you can drag and drop groups to make new windows, which you can then stash away and close to free up memory either into bookmarks or using other extensions such as Link Map (my current workflow), Tab Session Manager, Tabli or BrainTool. And this extension only groups NEW tabs, not old ones, so your current tabs are safe, you can safely try this extension! And not least, Tabius (v2) is open-source! Many kudos to the dev, this is an amazing tool. I am a very heavy tabs and windows users (I can have up to 1000 tabs open at once over 20 different windows!), it's one of the best tab management tools I ever had along with Link Map (alternative to Tabs Outliner) and Tab Session Manager, Tabius has become one of my essential extensions!
  • (2023-07-08) Nil Desperandum: Thx but we can't backup our tabs. There is not an option to do that !! What we will do if we delete our browser and reinstall it?! All tabs would be gone !!!!!
  • (2023-07-05) Srivatsav Gorti: Need of the hour ! :-) But just a small issue. Clicking on save this tab group is creating duplicates.
  • (2023-06-17) mannar mani: Just awesome. This is the extension I was looking for so long. The best alternate for Tab Tree which is available only in firefox. With vertical tab enable, this works just flawlessly. Highly recommended.
  • (2023-06-03) Jeremy Clemens-Mierau: Perfect extension which re-implements the removed tab-groups-auto-create flag, and then some.
Awesome interface, very useful for expanding and collapsing all (or certain) colored tab groups, saving favorite tab groups, removing tab from a group with a button, viewing the tab counter of each group and closing each individual group , good job!
  • (2023-05-27) K.Tanjim Ahammad: Simple and easy to use
  • (2023-04-06) Sven Arnold: Only works when you create a new tab via a link on a web page. Extension ignores existing tab groups, even ones that follow the same naming scheme, as well as all single tabs or old groups you got from restoring a session etc. If you start a fresh browser session every time w/o any restored tabs then the limited functionality is kinda sufficient, but then again, ppl who want a tab (group) manager don't usually fall into that category. The fact that Tabious does un-group single tabs again is a feature most other tab group managers lack, so yay for that. Same goes for the option to group parent and child tabs from different domains together. Very cool. An additional 'Auto collapse' option would immediately make this extension twice as useful, tho. Unfortunately the pop-menu is rather limited in its functionality. Without the ability to re-name groups from within the menu - you can't even expand the groups in the menu to see what tabs they contain - it's practically useless actually. You don't need a fancy pop-up to collapse a tab group manually. Locating the Tabious icon in the tool bar, clicking it, locating the group in the list, guessing which of the unlabeled icons does the desired task ... it takes five times as long to use those alibi functions than to simply double click the offending group label directly. TL:DR Add 'Auto Collapse', add actually useful functions to the menu, make the extension handle more than just newly created tabs ... then this could be The tab group manager to install. As it stands now there are more feature complete alternatives in the store. I'll deactivate Tabious but leave it installed for a while longer, maybe the next update's gonna flip my world on it's head.
  • (2023-02-23) Elan Pan: I love this this so much, but could you make it works with the suspended extensions, the blacklist only allow http protocol, but the suspended extensions used the extension:// or chrome-extension:// protocol.
  • (2023-01-29) Yitao: Thank you for the useful extension! I would prefer if there's a shortcut to collapses all other groups, but also moves the current active group to be the right most group
  • (2023-01-28) Seasons: It'd be really nice if "Pin tab group" was disabled for these automatically created groups...
  • (2023-01-10) 拂云吹浪: Not work with Chrome 108.0.5359.124 on macOS
  • (2022-12-29) Anoir Ben Tanfous: Doing what the browser should do by default :)
  • (2022-12-28) Shang-feng Chao: I'm looking for something like this for so long: when clicking a link to open in new tab, automatically group it with the source tab. This extension does this simple thing and does it well! Thank you for making this helpful extension.
  • (2022-12-17) Prit Cee: Ive been looking for something like this for literally years now! this makes life SO much easier!
  • (2022-10-20) Md Abir Hasan Dipu: Thank you. <3
  • (2022-05-28) Ed Silinieks (Skaifer): This is the best alternative I've found so far for Panorama Tab Groups. I'm able to use groups in a self contained manner. Linked tabs open on same group, so it is possible to categorise groups like YT, General, Ideas, Shopping and so on. Wish there was overview-like addon, though.
  • (2022-04-05) benjamin957957: This is exactly the extension I needed, an extension that would auto-group tabs with Chrome's Tab Groups feature. I love the function where it groups tabs based on the same opening tab. Life-saver. Thanks for making this extension!
  • (2021-12-09) Dmytro Kravchenko: Все-таки это прекрасно! Немного больше настроек не помешает =)
  • (2021-11-26) Spar: Amazing extension! i really like how organized my browser can look despite having opened a multitude of tabs. would love to see this extension coming to the firefox store! props to you man, keep up the great work!
  • (2021-11-20) M SAIFUL ISLAM: very easy to use and so helpful, thanks

  • (2023-02-01, v:1.5.1) Alex Balazshazi: New tab in group shortcut
Hi, first off, thank you for your work. I'm a programmer and i work on different projects so your extension is a life saver. Is there any shortcut to create a new tab in the group im currently working in? Cause Ctrl+T just opens a new tab outside of the group. Thanks
  • (2022-12-29, v:1.5.1) Anoir Ben Tanfous: Pinned tabs get unpinned
Hi Faisal, First of all thank for this extension that is pretty useful and unique, I would like ask you if you can add to the setting to optionally exclude pinned tabs from grouping, and maybe also optionally make the tab name dynamically change to add the number of grouped tabs (it is available in the tooltip) something like "youtube [5]"
  • (2022-08-24, v:1.5.0) Joel Thomas: color palette is missing the last "orange" option + change current color + "cropped" rules list
The color options native to Chrome tab groups are grey, blue, red, yellow, green, pink, purple, cyan and orange. Currently in the custom rules drop-down I do indeed see 9 options to choose from, but because the first option is "Random" I think the last "orange" option isn't being presented. ← This is the main "bug report" I wanted to submit... but now that I'm here, (A) How do you modify the "color" attribute of an existing rule? I see the text boxes where I can change the URL and the group-label, but I don't see any obvious button to change the group-color. Also (B) My rules are being cut off at the bottom. if I adjust the page zoom level I can manage to see maybe one more extra row at the bottom but that's it. Basically, I can see the first 20 or so custom rules just fine, but any beyond that / below that cutoff line are inaccessible to me. It hasn't bothered me too much so far, but if I ever needed to edit any values or delete a rule, it could be a bit of a problematic hurdle. Especially considering the fact that old longtime "tried and true" rules you're comfortable with tend to propagate towards the top #1 spot and it's the relatively new rules you're still experimenting with that are appended to the bottom of the list, this essentially means that I'd be forced to delete and recreate my current, valued rulesets just to adjust something newer I'm still testing/unsure of keeping. Not exactly ideal. Just a friendly FYI
  • (2022-06-10, v:1.5.0) David Cain: 2 questions
Is there a way to make a custom naming rule? For example I'd like the first 2-3 characters of the domain to take up less room on the tab bar Is there a way to raise the number so it only makes groups if you have something like 5 from the same domain, as opposed to grouping as soon as there's 2? I'm ok with hack-y solutions if you can point me in the right direction in terms of modifying the files
