A *Chrome Extension* to pick an audio output device for HTML5 audio and video elements.
In 0.4.0 manifest v3 was implemented.
- known issue: switching audio device immediately on page start causes glitches.
In 0.3 saving deviceId for a current tab domain became possible.
## How it works
The extension patches HTML5 audio and video .play() method and manipulates the `sinkId` in order to switch to the desired audio output device.
It also does not and will never work with AudioContext cause setSinkId() is not implemented for it.
To not overhead every page with script injection sometimes it requires to pause/play media on initialization.

- (2025-05-02) Mike Hill: This is fantastic. I wasn't sure this was possible! I've tested on YouTube and YouTube Music and found this to be working great. I'm grateful for the disclaimer that it will not work on all sites, but also happy to see it working on some of the most critical ones. It does require granting microphone access to page sources, which is unfortunate, but I see the reason. This is a browser limitation (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/MediaDevices/getUserMedia) and I can see how there would not be an easy way around it. It would be nice if the extension could request the permission independently rather than granting to the page, but not sure if that's possible here. Good to be mindful when granting access, since a malicious site could feasibly start recording on its own once permission is granted. This is very unlikely in most cases, and your browser should indicate when recording is active, but I'd be reluctant to click "Allow" on any shady sites. Tested on Edge 135.0.3179.85.
- (2025-04-27) Alexey: Do not work. When try to open it says: "Allow audio access for the current domain to enable functionality. You might not get prompted for permissions if it is explicitly blocked by your browser's settings." I have check all sound permissions of extension and site and nothing is blocked.

- (2025-02-21) Betsy Brooks: I would like some help. I'm on Brave release v1.74.51. I'm trying to use the extension on YouTube. But when I press the extension it says "To use this extension on this domain click "Allow" this site to use your audio. Also if a dialog doesn't appear, permission could be blocked explicitly with your browser settings.". Now, I do not know what needs enabled, everything is set to either Allow or Ask, so it should ask me right? Nothing asks though. I will update my reviews stars after this is resolved. My Goal: I'm trying to play audio from one tab to my speakers, and from another tab to my headset
