## 🔧 How to Run Locally
To run the extension locally in your Chrome browser, follow these steps:
1. Clone or download the repository from GitHub: https://github.com/Ordinath/Whisper_to_ChatGPT
2. Install the dependencies by running npm install in the project folder
3. Run npm run build to build the app for production to the build folder
4. Open Google Chrome and navigate to chrome://extensions
5. Enable "Developer mode" by toggling the switch in the top-right corner
6. Click on "Load unpacked" button and select the build folder created in step 3
7. The extension should now appear in your list of installed extensions
Now you can use Voice-to-Text ChatGPT extension without downloading it from the Chrome Web Store!
## 🔑 API Key Disclaimer
This extension requires an OpenAI account with a valid API key to function properly. OpenAI provides a small amount of free credits for all accounts, which is more than enough to use the Whisper API in ChatGPT and enjoy the extension's features.

With the recent changes to the UI in chatGPT, the extension stopped working for a brief period of time and it's at that point I realised how dependant I am on this extension. - (2024-03-29) Peter Karacsonyi: I'm using this every day, I love it because this feature should be enabled on desktop as well by default not just on mobile. Whisper anyway is the most advanced STT since it understands any language even talking in different languages in one single sentence. I do that to learn language and it is extremely useful.
- (2024-03-24) Aaron Hall: Works great. Now I can talk to ChatGPT instead of typing, helping avoid carpal tunnel syndrome. New users should keep in mind that you need an API key from OpenAI. This means you will need to set up an OpenAI account and pre-pay for some API tokens. Don't worry---these chats are crazy cheap---barely a fraction of a penny.
