A Chromium extension to show tab numbers.

Description from store
This extension shows tab numbers. In other words, this extension adds a numeric prefix to each tab title. For example, "1. GitHub," "99. Google Calendar," and so on.
With this extension, you can detect each tab's number easily and navigate between tabs with ctrl/⌘ + 1-9 keys.
Key features:
- This extension supports Google Chrome’s collapsed tab group feature, automatically ignoring tabs in a collapsed tab group.
- You can toggle tab numbering for all tabs or just the current one via keyboard shortcuts or the extension’s context menu.
- Tab numbers can be relative, displaying the current tab’s absolute number and indicating the position of other tabs relative to it ― how many tabs they are ahead or behind the current one.
This extension is an open source software. You’re welcome to report bugs or suggest features at https://github.com/kg8m/chrome-show-tab-numbers/issues .

- (2025-05-05) Michael Skarzewski: Tabs are incorrectly numbered if there are several pinned tabs already open. Please fix.
- (2025-04-07) Drzsun Drzsun: Could you please add a function that shows the current/active tab's position/number on the toolbar icon? This would be very helpful when there are many tabs so the title text won't even show. Also it will be unique as all other extensions I can found are just showing the total number of tabs. Thank you in advance.
- (2025-04-07) アクマヤミ: make it able to change the tab title, because it get reset when used another "change tab titile" extension
- (2025-01-20) Taki: Does what it's supposed to do, except show the number of tabs on the little icon. Also have to remove the numbers when bookmarking something or it keeps them in. Overall not too bad, but still have to search for the full number of tabs open. So all it does basically, is label your tabs with a number, but not show the total number of tabs open like it says it's supposed to.
- (2024-11-30) Meng Du: This does not work correctly on Arc browser. The number does not match tab index in a workspace.
- (2024-11-11) Lewis Bright: Best version of this that exists (I've tried a few, but this is the most consistent and responsive)
- (2024-11-10) Anupam Tandon: Not intuitive. Did not work . Is there any help document for this?
- (2024-11-07) James: Works great. But I wish it shows the tab number in the blank tabs and browser related tabs like History, Downloads, Settings...
- (2024-10-12) Thalha S: Can you please add a feature to rename the tab. Thankyou.
- (2024-08-02) Eli Johnson: Doesn't renumber open tabs as you close others that I can see. Don't see any options for this either. Also leaves some tabs unnumbered for what reason I don't know.
- (2024-06-20) William Hoover: Just trying it now--seems to be working well!
- (2023-11-10) Zashiki Warashi: This is awesome, but I think this would be really cool if the numbers only displayed when you held Ctrl. I wonder how feasible it would be to have options to type an arbitrary number and switch to the tab when you release Ctrl. Even though I have only 10 tabs open, there's no way to cycle to tab 9 because 9 always puts you at the end. As a tab hoarder this would help me out a lot haha.
