YoutubeDigest uses ChatGPT AI to summarize youtube videos.
It's a great productivity tool to know the summary of a video before watching it to save time.
You can specify the settings needed for the summary like:
- Provide the summary as single paragraph (tl;dr;)
- Provide the summary as bullet points.
- Provide the summary as layered bullet points with video chapters.
- Provide the summary as an article
- The extension also has the ability to summarize from any language to any other language.
- You can export the summary as pdf, docx or text.
FAQ:
Do I need a chatgpt account to run this extension ?
Yes, the extension requires that the user has a chatGPT account in order for it to work.
How do I make it work in Brave browser ?
Disable "Prevent sites from fingerprinting me based on my language preferences" in brave://settings/shields, this is needed because the extension needs to access the session you have for chatgpt and that option is preventing us from doing that.
Is this extension able to summarize videos without youtube transcript ?
No, right now the video must have a transcript, but this will change in the future.
Does it only work for youtube ?
That is correct, but we can extend that. If you have any requests, please add it in the support tab.
How can I request adding a new language ?

When I summarize a video on article mode it defaults to random amount of minutes especially when the video is long. For example an hour long video defaults to summarizing to 32mins for the summary, would be great if I could select the specific minutes summarized in article mode.

- (2024-01-12) محمد سمير: I think this extension make my browser slow. After turning it off I notice that I is fast, and after turning it back on my browser (Edge) is so laggy. I also had a problem after choosing "Custom prompt" where I got (MM:SS - undefined) where MM:SS is mintues:seconds The undefined things is showed to the user, so I think you need more TypeScript stuff in your codebase.

- (2024-01-04) FirstName LastName: I used to like this app when it didn't keep breaking, when it didn't require Google sign-in, and when it was actually free. In fact I was eager for them to get through the Google review and to be approved so that I could use the extension again, but as soon as I was able to get it back up and running after the review, it's a huge disappointment to see that it's no longer free and requires credits to do the most basic function. I get that the developers want to get their bag and they took time to make the extension. It used to be the best of its kind when there were no alternatives. Now there are so many options and this standalone extension doesn't provide any additional value but costs money. I switched to the extension "ChatGPT » Summarize & Chat" by calmai.net which is really easy to use and it does everything this does for free, plus it can also summarize other webpages. This isn't a sponsored review, I don't care what anyone else uses and there are plenty of free extensions you can find. I'm removing this extension. It's been a huge disappointment after such a long hiatus. -------- Update: Updated review from 1 star to 4 stars since the free version is added back. The summaries are genuinely pretty good and now the free version is back, it's worth using again.
