Keep Your Web Sessions Alive with Session Alive Extension
Most websites with authentication features enforce session timeouts for security reasons. If you're inactive for a certain period, your session may expire, requiring you to log in again before continuing any activity.
Session Alive helps prevent this by keeping your session active in the background—even during extended periods of inactivity.
🔧 Key Features:
✅ Background Keep-Alive
Sends background AJAX requests to your site to prevent session expiry—no page reloads, no lost changes. Just set your dashboard URL, choose an interval, and open the page in a tab.
✅ Foreground Page Reload
Auto-refreshes the current tab at intervals to bypass JavaScript-based idle timers used by some websites.
✅ Smart Auto-Stop
Automatically stops when:
• Server responses indicate a stopped session (Background mode)
• You navigate away from the trigger URL (Foreground mode)
✅ Browser Notifications
Get notified on session keep-alive success or failure.
✅ Easy Rule Management
Create, edit, enable, or disable rules easily from the settings page.
🔁 How It Works
Background Page Request (AJAX Mode)
This mode keeps your session alive by periodically sending background requests (via AJAX) to a specified URL—typically your website's dashboard or welcome page. Since the page isn't reloaded, you won't lose any unsaved changes.
* Set Up:
* Specify the Background Trigger URL (e.g., your dashboard).
* Choose an interval.
* Save the rule.
* Open the Trigger URL in a new tab—and you're set!
* Automatic Stop:
This mode automatically stops based on server responses, ensuring efficient resource use.
Foreground Page Reload
Some websites use JavaScript-based idle timers within the browser, which AJAX requests can't bypass. In such cases, use the Foreground Page Reload option.
This feature keeps your session alive by auto-refreshing the active tab at regular intervals.
* Automatic Stop:
This mode stops automatically when the user navigates away from the Trigger URL.
🔔 Notifications
Enable browser notifications to receive alerts for successful or failed session-keepalive attempts.
⚙️ Rule Management
* Create and manage rules easily via the settings page.
* Temporarily pause any rule with the disable option.
* Experiment with different modes to suit your workflow.
🔒 Permissions Requested:
1. Access your data on all websites – Required to inject JavaScript into web pages (only when a rule is active).
2. Access browser tabs – Needed to identify and interact with the active tab running a rule.
3. Display notifications – Enables browser notifications to inform you of rule status.

- (2025-04-08) R. M.: The page is an Internet Banking page, but I guess there is an iddle js running in background. I've tried to use the foreground option but it does not work. The page set is not being load to keep the session really alive.
- (2025-01-23) David: Works very well with no issues.
- (2025-01-13) David H: Will not automatically start. I added a rule for a URL, but when I logged in the next day and clicked the extension icon, it says "No Rules are running". You have to go into settings and manually start the rule each time!
- (2024-08-02) leafbelly: Does not work. I am bombarded with "Background request rules stopped! The server response was not 200 OK!" What does that even mean? I could find no help other than a six-year-old GitHub post that doesn't help. I wish it did work. It seems nice.
- (2024-03-25) Wayne Goode: Works great. I use it to keep me logged into Blackboard and my college website. Some sites can take a bit of adjusting because each site has different ways of deciding when to log out a user. That's what great about this extenstion. It has lots of settings that can be adjusted to match how each website works.
- (2024-03-18) Dariush Dianat: Not that easy to work with, but at least worked for my case. Good job!
- (2024-03-11) Adam Cadman: I use this on Salesforce sites as when I have many different Orgs open, trying to keep them all logged in is a PITA. This has saved SO much time! It also works on the Brave web browser
- (2024-02-02) Shiri BK: Does the job, but not easy to use. Once I click the plugin to add rule to the page, the default is 5mins. To edit, i need to go to settings page and update but it still doesn't reflect on the icon.

- (2023-04-14) Suri Kužomast: I can't believe I didn't think of searching for an extension like this earlier. I'm tied to some websites where if you're not active for 5-10 minutes, it logs you out. I used to log back in to the websites twenty times a day. With this extension, I only have to log in once and I stay logged in for the whole day

- (2022-09-30) THANK THE MAKER! Finally a Chromium replacement for Staying Alive! I was crushed when Staying Alive was no longer in the store. This is a sanity saver for those using sites all day for work that keep timing out at just the wrong time and keep logging back in 10-100 times a day. Very familiar settings for anyone that used Staying Alive before.
