It’s nearly impossible to wade through the sea of fake news that has flooded the internet. SurfSafe gives you the power to find the source of misinformation and make informed decisions about what you are really reading.
At the heart of every fake news story is an image that is likely doctored or taken out of context. SurfSafe uses the news sites you trust, along with fact checking pages and user reports as benchmarks for what images are considered “safe”. It’s simple - just hover over an image, and SurfSafe will classify the image as “safe”, “warning”, or “unsafe”. SurfSafe will also show you every instance of where the image in question has been seen before. You will be able to see if the context of image in the article has anything to do with the original instance.
Not only can you protect yourself from fake news with SurfSafe, but you can also fight back. SurfSafe allows you to report suspicious images in order to help others surf safely.

It only gives connection errors, it does not work. The captcha after installing fails.

It's ok, it's best described as a fact checker for photos and pictures to see if they have been altered in any way or were used in any article or website. Not great for news

Great idea....poorly executed. Blocks websites that offer sales - example a picture of a credit card triggers this review - and 1/3 of the screen is covered by this extentions saying the 'picture' is safe. There is also a large check mark on top of the credit card image, making the trigger to buy invalid. So the site is rendered useless. I also can not access the settings for the extension...apparently that is not available for Chrome running on linux?

I can't get this app to work for me, so I'm disappointed. A similar app (NewsGuard) works pretty well.

Good idea. But it's US centric. That's about 5% of the worlds population. The rest of us can't use it due to pictures never emerge on US "trusted" sites.

I love this, with one caveat. For Canadians it doesn't have any sources. So for us to fact check Canadian based photos there are no news sources.

Problems with older chrome browser (v48.x) - that is ok not all extensions are backward compatible. Issues with options screen and not seeing the overlay on most images. Test pages worked ok but side bar showing image sources should allow escape key to close side bar as well as scrolling to top to choose close. Choosing sources by logo in setup but not seeing any tool tip telling me who the logo belongs too. 3 star for effort but not really usable for me.

FINALLY a product that can identify fake info. Everyone talks about fake news and misinformation, but there's nothing else like this that provides a quick, easy, simple way to know what is not reliable online. So sick of everyone talking about fake news this and that - super happy to have a product that gives some way of fighting back.

Does what it says it does, helps me filter out misinformation and verify an image's sources as I browse the web. Works great!
