Sign up to not only continue watching the videos you already love watching but learn with some real world examples at the same time.
➤ Supported on Netflix, YouTube, Disney+ (and more coming soon...)
➤ Watch, Review, Recall all in the same platform
We’ll do the flashcard making so you don’t have to! Iago automatically keeps track of the words / grammar you’ve seen and has built custom spaced-repetition quizzes for you to recall the content you’ve seen so far.
➤ The only platform that tracks grammar
We believe grammar is just as important as vocabulary — especially how easy it is to forget part of the structure. Iago tracks and will display grammar on the content you’re watching.
➤ Keep track of your progress globally
Progress isn’t bound to a list or deck anymore, Iago keeps track of your progress per word / grammar.

- (2025-06-07) Brielle :3: Coolest language learning extension I have ever used. Great for a self motivated study!
- (2025-02-25) Gojo Satoru: Actually really good. Looks very professional too!
- (2024-11-17) Piojax: I have been using this extention for almost a year. But recently the subtitles keep flickering and I am unable to get translations while hovering words.
- (2024-08-30) tifany segovia: It works on youtube but not on Netflix in my case which is sad coz I watch a lot of shows there
- (2024-08-15) kuromy: The best extension ever to learn Japanese while watching YouTube or some other platform, my congratulations to the developers, they did a great job!
- (2024-05-29) Джеймс: Guys, u should add option to hide subs and most importantly function to create machine translation, and it will be greatest exntesion ever :)
- (2024-05-23) Adeeb Mohammed: I love this extension, but unfortunately the developers don't seem to be interesting in fixing the long list of bugs. They are too busy with their upcoming app or whatever. Some annoying bugs: - The extension enables itself when you start a new video even when previously disabled - When there are no Japanese subtitles, the extension keeps opening the subtitle panel and freezing the video for the first minute - If you leave a video and go to the main page and start a new video, there will be two bird icons in the status bar. Every time you do this there is an extra icon. ...and a lot more. I'm going to have to give this one star until they fix these bugs.
- (2024-03-24) Dan Samsungle: QUIZZES are slow bad, too easy to guess the answer. my times seen function always stays at one. at least it keeps track of words for free unlike langreactor
- (2024-01-12) Konan X: As a pop up dictionary it works and looks great. Features like the video auto-pausing on hover and resume on cursor exit, the words being separated visually, "times seen" for each word etc are great. And I'm sure many will appreciate being able to download an extension that doesn't have to be set up rather than configuring something like Yomichan and manually finding dictionaries, which can be a pain and is a barrier to entry. However, it would be better if these features were focused on and expanded upon rather than trying to be another Migaku like service that tries to make its own SRS system that is invariably worse than just connecting to Anki . Why not use AnkiConnect and let us create cards that way? And supposing I don't want to, why would I use this service over something like Migaku which has similar features, but a better built in SRS system (even if it's still not great)? "Quizzing" instead of simply reviewing the words was a really bad design choice, it makes it far too easy to guess what the word is from context instead of having to actually recall it. Maybe it's more comfortable, but in terms of actually learning and retaining vocab it's a pretty useless system. Reminds me of the mobile apps like Duolingo, which are fun, but they are ruthlessly inefficient ways to learn. I apologise for being so critical but I want to provide some helpful feedback because you guys have built some useful tools. I just think trying to develop your own SRS is a misallocation of resources
- (2023-12-28) roda c: Best solution versus current competition for Japanese (Dec 2023). Great Job ! How long will this beta period last and how much will this cost ? thank you
- (2023-12-14) Yamin Nandar: that is amazing. It would be amazing if this can work on Crunchyroll.
- (2023-12-12) Santiago Oyarbide Fernandez: Awesome extension! It'll definitely improve your japanese immersion routine. There's only a few features that I would add in the near future: 1. Anki connection for Sentence Mining. 2. More compatiblity with other websites rather that only Youtube or Netflix, like Animelon or Crunchyroll. If those features are added in the near future, this extension will be the best out there for learning japanese.
- (2023-12-04) 月影: Hope to add the following two functions: 1、It would be much better if it were possible to upload our own subtitles, as those created using Whisper are much more accurate than the auto-generated subtitles on YouTube. 2、Upon enabling the feature to upload custom subtitles, it would be beneficial to make iago compatible with Crunchyroll as well. This way, if certain anime cannot be found on Netflix or YouTube, they can be watched on Crunchyroll with Japanese subtitles created using Whisper.
- (2023-10-12) Doinkaesthetics: A little finicky, but it seems nice. I hope you can add this extension to KickAssAnime.am soon, since that's my go-to anime website.

- (2023-09-28) NABILA KHOIRUNNISAA: I really love it! I'm a Japanese literature major, and this really helps me with my studies, whether it's my Moji, Bunpou, or Choukai. But, if I may ask a request, I would like the anime called Isekai Izakaya Nobu (異世界居酒屋~古都アイテーリアの居酒屋のぶ~) that is on YouTube to have subtitlesTT^TT Thank you very much <3
- (2023-05-17) Jasmine Ch: I usually don't rate apps or extension but this one is truely amazing. After years of studying Japanese without much result, I always wanted to learn through video which I enjoy (other than learning videos). Especially because Japanese is very different from text book one to the day to day language . This extension works perfectly on netflix and is probably the most complete one I've ever seen (and i've been testing plenty of them for ten years.) it even indicates the words by level of difficulty/series you've seen and can be easily found and learn through small quizz To make it really perfect, it would be nice to add the different kanji readings according to the words/meaning because it is regularly missing but a google search does the trick. It would be cool to be able to classify them by type of words (adjective/verb etc)

- (2023-04-28) Patrick: Its a good app, it show subtitles and you can hoover over them to learn more about the words, if it works. And thats the entire issue. It does not always work, sometimes the lyrics are just in Romanji and it shows no Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji at all and you can also not hoover over words to learn from them. You guys need to bugfix this ASAP!

- (2023-04-18) Juandito Batara: Currently learning Japanese using this extension. Subtitles are shown pretty clear, and the ability to save words and revisit them later makes this extension great for reviewing learnt words in certain videos.

- (2023-04-17) Shan Yeh: Netflix in Germany doesn't contain Japanes subtitle option for all of the animes :( Therefore Lago couldn't grab any data and is useless while watching anime :((((((( Only watching Japanese dramas are able to turn on Japnaese subtitle.

- (2023-04-16) Ela Cruz: I don't normally leave reviews for extensions but this has been such a useful tool so far! If you are learning Japanese and like to immerse yourself with other Japanese media, you definitely need to have this. It's super helpful to expand your vocabulary!

- (2023-03-14) Jozef Kromka: The extension is awesome for watching videos in japanese and also learning. I would maybe appreciate, if there would show hiragana above kanji in the quiz window as well. At least when the question is answered. It would be also great to see option for subtitle in furigana.

- (2023-02-28) - Ponysparkle3 -: This is so helpful! Only recent thing is that for some reason it keeps saying I'm not logged in when on Youtube videos, so I am unable to use it there. When I click on the icon to log in it takes me to my profile which is already logged in. Unsure if I'm missing something but if there's any way anyone might know how to fix this issue it would be greatly appreciated TT

- (2023-02-23) JRC: This extension is genius, and incredibly useful for anybody trying to learn the language and takes part of their media. This will help incredibly for language learning, and would be just as useful for future languages such as korean. It helps a ton for learning new vocabulary, listening comprehension, and more. There are an incredible amount of features that I doubt would be included in a free google extension. Such as the bookmarking words for quizzes, thats a super useful feature. And using Iago doesn't feel like work or homework, you just passively learn. I look forward to seeing this extension develop. :)

- (2023-02-22) Hei-Jman: Just started using it but really excited to use it to help accelerate my Japanese language skills. Wish it was available on Crunchyroll even though I know it may be impossible considering Crunchyroll doesn't have Japanese subtitles.

- (2023-01-25) Serena Reese: I cannot wait for other languages to be added as well. I have tried other extensions for subtitles appropriate for language learning, but this one has the best user interface and logistics by far. Thank you.

- (2022-12-17) Moshi Mosh: Really cool, found it through refold youtube. I will likely move to this app. Really nice how the words are seperated, and the quizzes are really well made. Some Feedback from my side: Just one thing that bothers me: I really prefer the way language reactor shows the subs below the video. For example hovering over the words with lago always triggers the playbar in Netflix to popup, which is quite distracting. This is not the case when I move my mouse below the video with language reactor. Also dark mode would be kinda nice on your site, I think lot of people learn in the evening.

- (2022-08-30) kelly hsu: i can finally start learning japanese in a fun and engaging manner. i usually hate opening up duolingo because it just feels like i'm doing homework - with iago it doesn't feel like learning, it's like watching your favorite shows with greater understanding!! netflix and youtube integration is great and blends in very well. can't wait for other languages (korean!!)

- (2022-08-05) Coltyn Stone-Lamontagne: This feels like a fantastic way to bridge the gap between watching a show in Japanese with English subtitles and watching a show with Japanese subtitles. It feels super intuitive to use so far and I really look forward to seeing the ways that the spaced repetition and deck building tools based on words you heard in shows you watch will be improved upon in the future! The fact that the English subs are smaller makes it easier to focus on trying to read the Japanese ones and checking the definitions without spoiling the sentences meaning for yourself!
