➤ Excel Shortcuts on Google Sheets
Love your Excel shortcuts but can’t use them in Sheets? Now you can!
We brought the most frequently used shortcuts to Sheets so you no longer need to click around Sheets to accomplish what you would’ve been able to do with a couple keystrokes in Excel.
Not an Excel junkie? That’s okay too! We’ve defaulted these shortcuts to native Excel, but with SheetWhiz you’re able to customize formatting shortcuts to whatever works best for you. Just click on the shortcut key to modify it
Excel shortcuts are supported on both Mac and PC. ALT is replaced with Option on a Mac. CTRL on a PC maps to Control on a Mac (not Command)
• For shortcuts starting with ALT, press and release all keys in the order listed
• For shortcuts starting with CTRL, press all keys in the order listed and hold down until all keys have been pressed
➤ Trace Precedents on Google Sheets: Get Your Formulas Right
• See all the cells referenced in your formula in one window
• Quickly jump to every precedent cell using the up / down arrow keys
• Make spreadsheet edits without having to close the trace precedents window
• Dive a layer deeper and view the precedents of the precedents cells from the same window without having to rerun the tool. The right arrow key opens and left arrow key closes each layer
• Close the window by hitting "Esc." Never need to touch your mouse!
• Similar to the tracing precedents tools seen in plug-ins like Macabacus, Arixcel, Factset, and S&P Capital IQ on Excel
➤ Trace Dependents on Google Sheets: Modify Your Sheet with Confidence
• See all the cells that reference the cell that you’re on in one window
• Navigate to every dependent cell using the up / down arrow keys
• For large spreadsheets, you can run trace dependents on specific tabs to increase the speed of the tool vs. on the entire spreadsheet
• Close the window by hitting "Esc." Never need to touch your mouse!
• Similar to the trace dependents tools seen in plug-ins like Macabacus, Arixcel, Factset, and S&P Capital IQ
➤ Format Cycling: Be Faster on Google Sheets than Native Excel!
Tired of having to reformat negative numbers as (1) versus the Google Sheet default of -1.00? Need to color code numbers (e.g., Blue = Hard Code, Green = Link, Black = Formula)? Have company colors that you need to use but always need to import them into a Sheet?
Use our format cycles that allow you to quickly flip through number formats, font colors, and cell fills that you define and keep your formatting consistent in every analysis you do
➤ Export Selection as Image: Keep Your Cell Formatting & Source When Exporting to Slides or Docs!
Ever need to export your analysis into Google Slides or Google Docs? Now you can quickly take a screenshot of your selection by hitting Ctrl + Shift + C. The image you paste will automatically be linked to the cells that you've selected, making it really easy to update. Perfect for board slides and model output decks that require constant updating.

- (2025-06-06) Leopoldo Belloni: This is actually an extremely underrated extension, the installation is so easy a kid could do it, and assigning shortcuts is so easy. I didn't even mention it covers all actions in sheets/excel, it's fantastic! Although I would change the UI of the app and the icon, which is just a compressed box on the top right corner, and the UI when you open it can be simplified, and made a bit user friendly. Despite this I'm still giving it 5/5, great job!
- (2025-03-21) O P: I feel like this is a lesser used feature so wanted to highlight that I LOVE export selection as image. I can't stand having to screenshot everything myself every time and then not remembering where I screenshot the image from. Just having the ability to quickly copy and paste a linked screenshot of my data is such a mental-headache saver. 5/5
- (2024-11-20) Aman Mishra: AMAZING! Having to switch from excel to google sheets, lack of customizable shortcuts was my biggest challenge. Took me a lot longer to finish my work. I found out about this after a gruesome few months of doing my work, and it was LIFE CHANGING. Absolutely amazing. I started with the free trial to make sure it had everything I was looking for and it absolutely did! P.S. They have a slack community where you can interact with others using the product and the team to ask questions and provide direct feedback and requests.

- (2024-08-19) Henry Hamada: Huge time saver, especially all the cyclings Trace precedents is extremely helpful. Same with dependents. Hard to believe Google hasn't built either out fully yet UI could be better Using a Mac so especially helpful since Mac is incompatible with most shortcuts
- (2024-08-15) Alt Man: TRIAL VERSION. Buried in the description near the bottom it tells you, but after 25 days, you lose some features (including tracing). In my opinion it is clearly misleading to bury the lead on this, intended to make you get used to using the features and then make you pay for them at a later date. It would be okay if either in the promotional images (ie: the first one) or in the title you made it clear it was a trial version.
- (2024-07-16) Vamsee Ravella: Hi, The login button when pulled up in google sheets does not load into a login screen, it's just a dead image. Do you know of any fixes? Thanks!
- (2024-06-19) Lucas Miller: This is the best extension I've ever used. By a mile. I work in finance and it saves me time every single day. It's so good that it's converted me from a lifelong Excel junkie to a Sheets evangelist. I even recently moved all my clients from Excel to Sheets. Please do yourself a favor and give this a try if you use Sheets.
- (2024-03-13) Conner Vickery: As a big data cruncher at work and for my side projects, I've really come to rely on this tool. Working without sheetwhiz would be like riding a bike without pedals at this point.
- (2024-02-27) Brit Ness: Simple and it actually works!
- (2023-12-20) Daniel Weng: This is a must-have extension for G Sheets. Huge fan of the ability to cycle formats. Number and font cycles bring back some of the MS Excel power-user features back (e.g., (1) vs. -1 and zero's represented by a “-“ vs. "0", blue = hardcode, green = links, black = formula, among many other great features). Trace precedents/dependents are incredible - It's nearly impossible to do anything remotely productive in Sheets w/o this. Really seamless and saves so many unnecessary clicks and time!
- (2023-11-28) Allen Wen: Amazing app. Makes working in gsheets tolerable (somewhat) - definitely a "must have" if you spend any time at all modeling or analyzing data! Great trace dependents tool - highly recommend!

- (2023-11-17) Isabelle T: Super useful extension - especially for folks who are used to Excel and moving to Sheets. I mainly use the tool to resize columns and trace precedents and it works well for both use cases.
- (2023-09-07) Ender Nova: Useful extension though it'd be nice to be able to change what colors we can cycle through as I love making my spreadsheets look ✨aesthetic✨

- (2023-04-17) Ally Nabbouh: So many great features brought over from excel to call out but the paste special and row/column insert/delete has saved us so much time in modelling and has allowed us to build more reports for non-excel users. Love this product!

You can do the same things you'd do in Excel but in Google Sheets now, including Google Sheet's paste special, resize column, format borders, trace precedents, etc. This tool is brilliant and has saved me a few hours per week. Highly recommend!!!

- (2023-01-23) Isabel Zhu: Super awesome tool, especially for those who come from excel-heavy backgrounds (investment banking, private equity, etc.). The toughest change for me when transitioning from finance to tech was the more Google Sheets-heavy usage in tech - the native shortcuts in Google Sheets are pretty limited, and there is no way to easily audit and trace precedents (down to several layers) in complex formulas / models. Sheet Whiz solves this exact problem. For anyone who's looking to be as efficient in Google Sheets as they are in Excel, Sheet Whiz is an awesome plug-in.
