- (2025-06-08) Odis AQW: Really one of the easiest ways to make immersion more comprehensible instead of limiting yourself to comprehensible but boring materials. I have been using Migaku for years to extract learnings from shows I would already want to watch anyway.
- (2025-05-08) Ronald Blackburn: Extremely difficult to setup and use with local files. They do not work even using their converter
- (2025-05-06) Elizabeth Lee: It's pretty good! It helps you identify words you don't know. It can actually work with other youtube videos than what it recommends, but it's not always available. I would say just keep trying with the extension open to find a video you want to watch that works with the extension. I've watched game trailers with it. It's so nice that it captures the image and sentence you find the word in to make a flashcard.
- (2025-05-03) CtrlAnt: Great product but that's really to buggy for the price charged (500$ life-time)
- (2025-04-09) Ryuji: Really lovely extension for learning.
- (2025-04-04) Sophie A: Very buggy on my side
- (2025-03-22) Daniel Lizik: I had been used to just using rikai-kun for who knows how long, but it has a really annoying UX. I tried out migaku as my preferred method of studying is to look at japanese websites and somewhat laboriously go through each kanji and translate it and learn more. Migaku is well suited for my style of learning, essentially it increases the speed at which I can digest and learn new kanji.
- (2025-03-18) めいこめいこ: Amazing app that's worth every penny. For what it offers, the price is very generous. It is an invaluable tool for learning any of the languages it supports. It even has a new subtitle generation feature so you don't have to use the youtube auto generation subtitles which didn't work well with migaku since it would create random breaks in sentences. Now however, with the new Migaku update, that's not really the case anymore with the help of AI. Holy cow, thank you devs for this. Language learning has never been easier! Let's build those vocab banks together! Woooo!
- (2025-02-15) Mikhail Moroz: The best language learning app. Helps you track your progress and understand and learn difficult words. Recommended.
- (2025-02-13) Garrett: If you try the example videos they suggest, then Migaku works on Youtube. If you go to any language learning content not suggested by Migaku, it doesn't work. What's the issue here? How do I know if a video on youtube is compatible with Migaku?
- (2025-02-10) Lukas Martini: Way too buggy for the price. I randomly cant record audio from animelon, tried it on youtube which is the same. Randomly stops working completely. Would be happy to give a better rating, when issues are being resolved
- (2025-02-08) Maria Vitória: Honestly, it's the best extension for learning languages I've ever used. The design is pretty, intuitive, and they even bothered to make a whole YouTube channel explaining how to use every tool from the extension. I just find it very thoughtful. Unfortunately, I can't use the extension anymore, and I don't even know what happened. The web version doesn't open, and the app screen stays frozen loading. It's a shame because after searching for several extensions to help me with my English studies, I finally found a good and free one, but it doesn't work :(
- (2025-02-08) Francis Pritchard: Still needs to iron a few bugs, but other than that it's pretty darn perfect.
- (2025-02-06) David: I've done the traditional method of learning languages in a formal classroom setting, and I never felt like I learned much of anything. The pacing was slow and the material while interesting, wasn't very fun. Then I learned about learning through immersion, and how people from the world utilize things like music, tv shows, movies, and even youtube to learn languages. I already spend quite a bit of time on Youtube and Netflix, but my listening skills aren't very well developed, so sometimes I didn't know how to type out a word in my dictionary to search the definition. Then I learned about Migaku and how not only does it present the subtitles in ways where you can look up words in an interactive dictionary, but it'll help you make flashcard to do reinforcement learning with high quality flashcards that have audio and pictures along the definition to learn words easily. I can't thank the migaku team enough with the amazing tool they've built for language learners. I'm now at a comfortable level where I think I want to visit Japan again, but this time not have to rely on my google translator.
- (2025-01-22) Nick Miller: Substantially increased my workflow efficiency. After reporting several problems using the tools, the team has always quickly responded and helped resolve the issues.
- (2024-11-27) A. Rodrigo: Migaku is an amazing tool to speed up the process of creating cards and the new migaku memory is pretty good too~!
- (2024-11-22) Jason Bostwick: an amazing tool that is a must for language learning. still waiting for updates to missing features seen in legacy.
- (2024-11-19) Jimbo: Great, but the video feature in the legacy version is missing and that's vital to me... Hopefully the new version supports MKV video unlike the old one
- (2024-11-15) Ozan Arslan: My only disappointment is... the price. 9 dollars? This is such a high price especially if you live in a country with weak economy. Can't you guys at least implement regional pricing? Or take the price back down to 5? Other than that, it's a great extension.
- (2024-11-03) ethan: Migaku Extension is a game-changer for language learners, offering seamless dictionary lookups, flashcards, all right in your browser. Its not perfect but is constantly receiving updates from the the devs. Perfect for anyone serious about mastering a new language!
- (2024-10-18) Noodle: Great tool for language learners who are planning to take things seriously.
- (2024-09-19) Brandon Ortega: Screenshot doesn't appear, audio seems to be missing or something ('cause when I play it on a flashcard It doesn't do anything, no sound), also when I hit "create card" It starts to record the whole video/movie audio lmao. I've been using this extension and legacy one for 1 year and now It doesn't work now for some reason. Please support. [Edit] Thanks for everything (I mean it). I have to mention that the problem hasn't been solved, and it's frustrating. I've been using this extension for a really long time and enjoyed it, but now I've decided to record my own media audio from various sources (Netflix, videos I already had, HBO, etc.). So, the only advice I can give is to continue with what you were doing with the Migaku legacy extension because it was the right one. I appreciate all your work, but it's no longer functioning properly, so there's no reason to keep paying for this service. I said "thanks" because Migaku Legacy and this extension helped me improve my English, Portuguese, and Russian through learning by context and sentence mining.
- (2024-09-16) Đức Mạnh Nguyễn: Good extension
- (2024-09-09) Tuan Anh Nguyen: Cannot input Known Words Difficulty creating new cards
- (2024-08-10) Tomasz Makowski: Love the app! I used to learn with Anki, but Migaku took me about 10 minutes to set up and learn how to use. I don't need to install any addons since it is perfect as it is. It makes active immersion using Netflix or reading websites entertaining. At some point I even stopped noticing I'm doing active immersion, I enjoy the show I watch or page I read while at the same time learning. The SRS app that goes with it is also preferred for me over Anki. I totally recommend it and I wish I have gave it a try sooner. Now learning for passing JLPT N1.
- (2024-07-26) Quinn Willder: this is genuinely an amazing application. I don't know why anyone is hating on this, great for sentence mining and improving vocab through comprehensible input, and honestly very easy to use.
- (2024-07-25) Wei-Wei: Call me crazy but I like Migaku. I was an early investor. Sure. They are sort of flux. But, these guys are continually improving the app with a steady stream of releases. All you commentors are like 'ohhhhh.....booo whooooo.... they don't have my favorite thing anymore'. Just hang in there cry babies, the developers are working hard. With all that said, I can't believe you indolent, good for nothing scum haven't added support for iQiyi!
- (2024-07-17) Andrea Belli: It crashes all the time and stops working. Very frustrating and time consuming.
- (2024-07-15) Ethan Cadotte: New Extention does not hold a candle to the previous one. I've been using Migaku for about 2 years and it's been a great card creator tool and still has similar merrits today, which I'm pleased with (to some extent). However the problem with the new extention is that it is simply missing a few key features that the legacy version still has. Migaku Reader, Migaku Video player, Updating the word count, are all the stuff that I'm able to point out that is missing. I have not a clue as to why the development team had decided to divide attention between fixing, maintaining, and updating the new browser extention and suddenly start doing language courses. I have not used the courses, but I'm confident that this is unnecissary since people have reached fluency by doing self study. The main product/idea of the extention is great, but it's recent track has gone off course. Plus in addition the pricings have gone up from 5$ per month since June of 2024. If you do decide to use Migaku (which I recommend trying at least) use the legacy extention. Type "Migaku Legacy." It will be phased out eventually but as of writing older version is a better alternative.
- (2024-07-12) james joe: This has to be worst extension out there. Its soo buggy and totally useless. Their support is non-existant and they basically stole my money. Don't waste your money here. Honestly there are tons of better options out there to learn with Netflix. Try the Language Reactor app.
- (2024-05-04) Arsh Sidhu: can it work on any website that has subtitle such as cruncyroll or any other website plss reply
- (2024-02-26) Sam Chirnside: The extension doesn't work. It requires login, but it thinks the password is incorrect, even though it is the same one used to login to the account on the internet browser (which works fine). This has been verified with multiple login attempts, password resets, even copied and pasted the password to ensure no typos. Whilst the internet page logs in fine, the extension doesn't.
- (2024-02-09) N R.: A bit expensive for something that is in active development and lacks stability and many basic functionalities.
- (2024-02-07) Mitchell Tassicker: I love this for learning Japanese, Ive been using legacy until today when i checked the website and saw a newer version and OH MY GOD ITS GREAT!!! Love the work you guys do!
- (2024-02-06) Kai Schulz: This dev team and this addon is singlehandedly responsible for getting me to a conversational level in Japanese. This is a new add on that is still being developed BUT for 99% of people its incredibly functional, non buggy, and comes with a lot of things; Chat GPT examples, multiple dictionaries, customizable flash cards, image and audio input from study source, and language progress tracking so I know how well I'm doing. Do not listen to any bad review, the issues they have are incredibly minor and are usually fixed and updated within a week or two as this is being developed and updated constantly. I've been using Migaku for years and so happy to see the progress the whole team has made. THANK YOU
- (2024-01-31) Samuel Espinho-Alves: I've been using the Migaku extension for a while now. I started with the Legacy addon and every update always got me excited. Switching from long and tedious mining sessions watching anime with Anki and other software and dictionaries on the side to simply clicking on one button to get an app to do everything for me changed the way I study Japanese forever! I admit I got so used to the Legacy app that the new design seems a bit weird for me still, but with the new added features (Netflix support and Stats analyzer especially <3), what's there not to like? And if like me you still like using some of your classic apps like Anki, you can also decide to not replace it but simply use this app to complement it. I've "only" ever used Migaku for the stats analyzer and the flashcard mining but I never looked back. I've seen this app grow and evolve over time, so despite the fact some of the old features might not have been reimplemented yet, I can only recommend to trust the team on this! Best language learning app out there!
- (2024-01-29) Manuel Tausch: I saw a cool Youtube video about the legacy plugin, turns out the devs removed one of the coolest feature of the original plugin in this new rollout version, which is the speed-up option of video parts that don't contain dialog. I was previously considering to pay for this, but without this feature I might as well use LanguageReactor which is free. Unless I'm wrong and the feature exists, but I couldn't find it after checking every tab on the tool. Happy to come back in the future to review this again if they add the odd features back in which made the legacy app so interesting. Edit: I'm removing yet another star, because this app is really buggy. In the beginning I was able to see pinyin above Chinese characters which is really helpful when learning Chinese, suddenly the pinyin is gone in either Netflix or Youtube, even though it's activated in the settings. Several restarts did not help. Definitely going back to LanguageReactor for now.
- (2024-01-26) Zach Lyles: Seems too buggy to use properly. It only seems to work randomly. After several attempts I finally got it to work on Netflix but it immediately froze up my screen and I had to hard reset. I can't believe they are charging money for this. Baffling.
- (2024-01-06) Anderson Hoffman Koch: It got it's problems for sure, but its the best alternative out there (if you combine the legacy and the new one) Plus the owner and the team are great people, and they are doing serious business.
- (2024-01-04) moon海王星: I really want to use this extension, but it's super buggy. If a Netflix subtitle has a long, continued sentence that started on a previous screen, Migaku doesn't recognise it as one sentence and only clips what's currently on the screen. It's annoying to go back and manually fix. I know it's a "new" feature for you guys, but please fix this. I also REALLY dislike that the Netflix subtitles have English on the top? The whole point is to immerse, not use the English as a crutch. Have never seen any language immersion website recommend that for someone that's intermediate+ so I was very surprised to see this. Please add the option to remove the english subtitles. This really isn't a lot to ask. edit: amending the part about the English subtitles because I didn't know the toolbar even existed! that was not obvious to me at all to hover there! I will leave it there and not edit it out as atonement for not seeing it.
- (2023-12-27) Nicholas Gyde: Did you really get rid of the subtitle browser? I can't figure out how to create a flashcard for anki anymore. Went back to the legacy plugin.
- (2023-12-01) Ryan Stewart: I've tried multiple browsers, unable to log into the extension on any of them, either the log in screen doesn't pop up, or it's stuck processing my login indefinitely.
- (2023-10-10) Brett's Immersing: Migaku is honestly the only immersion tool I would ever use. It's so great not just for making cards, but even if I never made cards, just the immersion support is fantastic. 100% recommend.
