Getting Started:
1. Download and install the Simple Word Counter extension from the Chrome Web Store.
2. Highlight the text you want to count on any webpage. A tooltip will automatically pop up near the selected text, showing the word and character count.
Additional Settings:
• To access more settings, click on the extension icon to open the popup.
• In the popup, you can adjust the tooltip's display and set the default behavior for new websites.

- (2025-04-08) Vishal Chaudhari: does what it does excellently, a little too excellently. It keeps doing that and stealing the cursor when you are trying to select and edit something. most often keystrokes wont register, making it very annoying when you are working on say email or some document.

- (2025-01-21) Hassan Radwan: Excellent Plugin, what i love most about it is its simplicity. No fancy stuff, just character counting. As an SEO specialist, i use this to count characters for Meta Titles and Meta descriptions. However I gave it four stars because the plugin only counts characters without spacing. Google's counts the Meta Titles and Meta descriptions counts characters with spacing. My message to the developer is please give us the option to count the characters with spacing and/or without spacing. A toggle feature in the options to select what would be displayed would be so helpful. Thank you

- (2024-08-14) Lauren Cooper: I love this extension, but sadly I had to turn it off because it was causing trouble for me to work in https://platform.openai.com/playground/assistants. I causes some glitching and I has to turn it off to continue working. Let me know if you get this to work and I'll turn it back on.
- (2024-08-12) Paulo Bayabos: Great extension but I noticed it messes up the Gmail interface (creates a blank white strip at the top and on the left side). Confirmed this because the issue went away when I turned the extension off (and came back when I turned it back on). Thought you should know.
