Image from store FadBlock Origin: Friendly YouTube™ Adblock
Description from store A fast, lightweight, and undetectable YouTube Ads Blocker for Chrome. This blocker is designed to monitor advertisements, automatically seek the ads and skip them on YouTube and YouTube Music as well. It's important to note that this doesn't classify as traditional ad blocking, as the ad content is technically "loaded". MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT 📣📣📣 This project has made a monumental impact! FadBlock is the only extension that has continued to thrive while even the big players fell silent time to time. This project became sort of the original pioneer of this type of ad blocker, consistently delivering results when others couldn’t. While countless copycats have either shut down or failed to replicate our success, we stand strong and unwavering. FEATURES: This extension effectively eliminates all categories of YouTube and YouTube Music advertisements: Category 1: Ads visible on the homepage. Category 2: Ads overlaid atop the suggested video list. Category 3: Ads displayed below the video description. > Starting on April 6th, 2023, the “Overlay ads” ad format will no longer appear on YouTube to help improve the viewer experience and shift engagement to higher performing ad formats on desktop and mobile devices. Overlay ads are a legacy ad format that only served on desktop and are disruptive for viewers. Category 4: Skippable 5-second-must-be-watched video ads, which may be positioned at the video's start, midway, or at the end. Category 5: Ads similar to Category 4, but with two consecutive video ads instead of one. Category 6: Inescapable 10-second video ads, which must be watched. Install now and experience YouTube and YouTube Music the way it was meant to be—ad-free!

  • (2025-06-02) Shaun Hawkes: Despite a "lifetime" licence payment, the Developer sold the original, which was then hacked and malware added. Granted, this was then removed from the Chrome Web Store and this "new" version added to replace it, but I am suddenly getting requests for payment again. Additionally, I am not able to find a reliable verification of what data was accessed/compromised when the original was hacked, a realistic assessment of the threat created nor any actions that need to be taken to ensure that we are safe. All very weird and extremely disappointing. UPDATE: As per the comments left by the developer (which are appreciated, despite the fairly brash tone with which they were delivered), I have logged into it using the instructions. Rating updated to reflect this fact, but still not a 5 until there is something that categorically defines what our information was used for. To respond to your comments: 1. I clearly didn't read it all, no. Maybe I was busy trying to scour the web to find out what, if any, damage had been caused by you selling the app. 2. You go from "...the few who supported..." to "I spent a hell lot of time and money to recreate the whole database". This doesn't entirely add up. Why would it cost so much time and money to recreate a database of a few people? That said, it is hard to sympathise a great deal as the first thought that comes to mind is "Spend the money that you sold the original app for then." Anyway, thank you for the fix and the effort. I am glad that we are able to use it safely again and I just hope that this won't change if somebody comes along with a bag of money ;) UPDATE 2: Stopped working around November 2024 and, despite all of the promises and, even worse, the abusive comments aimed at people who, like me, paid for this extension, it has never worked since. All mention of it seems to have been removed from the devs webpage and there appear to be no plans to do anything with it anymore. !!!DO NOT PAY FOR THIS EXTENSION! IT DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE AND HASN'T WORKED FOR MONTHS!!!
  • (2025-05-14) Insight x613: The extension is the best out there for dealing with YouTube ads.
  • (2024-12-23) Joel Spitsnaugle: Does not work on Chrome on Mac (with zero other extensions to conflict with) as of December 23. DO NOT PURCHASE.
  • (2024-12-20) Sean Long: Has stopped working as of 20/12. Otherwise, previously, a good app.
  • (2024-12-13) LmaoCatgirls: Don't pay money for this greedy dev to poorly block ads. PieBlock literally does MORE than this app and it is actually FREE. That means this extension has outlived its usefulness and it's time to migrate over to the better alternative.
  • (2024-12-08) Agung Wardana: need to pay to use
  • (2024-11-14) Humayun K: I paid for this and it doesn't even work.
  • (2024-11-08) Stickydog: the stupid extension doesn't work anymore and hasn't for a while. yet this dude has the gull to keep pushing these stupid pop ups asking for donations.
  • (2024-11-08) L: It was free and worked fine without needing any info. Now it requires my email, which it annoyingly asks for every time I launch chrome and is also pretty reliant on you PAYING for its premium functions to get a good experience. Also, from reading reviews after my issues, the developer is ridiculously childing about negative reviews. Telling people that they're "bad people" all because they left a genuine 1 star review based on their experiences. Not exactly a good look for them and I wouldn't trust them with any information, let alone my payment info and email.
  • (2024-11-04) stone peter: Useless.
  • (2024-11-03) Simon Chen: Some people have reacted to they will be detected by youtube long ago but you refuse to admit it, and now you want to charge for it?
  • (2024-10-31) Heidi Chan: If there is a fee, why don't I pay YouTube directly? Remember, you have previously sold this plugin to rogue companies, which can harm our computers.
  • (2024-10-31) leafpool2014 gaming: I'm not going to pay for a previously free extension that has had previous incidents of being sold. I have switched over to firefox and if anyone is looking for a good adblocker, use ublock origins on firefox, it's still free. as for the developer, if you want to get on people's good sides, maybe don't suddenly introduce a change that no one asked for and when people do complain, don't insult them by calling them freeloaders. Most extensions are free and eventually someone will make one that works just as well as yours for free and people will move to that one.
  • (2024-10-30) Tarian: I do enjoy this extension and the efforts the developer is putting into maintaining up to date. Sometimes it doesn't work due to a Youtube update but usually it gets fixed in a few days. From time to time I do allow ads on sites I enjoy to support some people, but honestly ads are everywhere, mostly bad, and a waste of time and energy. DNS blocklists and ad-blockers are indispensable to stay sane while browsing today's internet.
  • (2024-10-29) Calen Kennedy: Dont bother paying for this it does not work anymore on youtube
  • (2024-10-28) Anthony: What is the point of paying for this extension? with I want to pay I would pay youtube
  • (2024-10-28) Rick Webster: I have been pleased with the performance of this extension and I would like to get a lifetime license. $5.99 is not the issue. I would be willing to pay more. However, I am not willing to give you my credit card info. I only trust PayPal and have no desire to use "Stripe" and I will not "rest assured". If you want more people to support you then PayPal needs to be supported. In one of your replies on Oct 15, you stated: "I completely understand. Before uninstalling, you could have looked into the PayPal option or simply emailed me. Rest assured, the card information isn’t stored; it's processed through Stripe, a world-renowned company." Where is this PayPal option?
  • (2024-10-28) Mik Bamford: Really loved it - paid for it -- now it's no-longer working at all. Ads are being played through -- is this a bug?
  • (2024-10-25) Zen Jelly (ZenJelly): Go **** Yourself with this paid BS
  • (2024-10-25) DS: Taiwan province of China? OK~Bye~
  • (2024-10-25) 黃郁權: Thanks for providing great survice, It's time to say goodbye. Here's a tip for who only wants to listen to music. Select play list and click any video, then replace "youtube" in the URL with "yout-ube" , then annoying ads are gone.
  • (2024-10-25) Wy: Now this is just bs, you force people to pay to continue using the service rather than making the ads slightly longer before skipping it, whats the point paying the extension instead of actually paying yt premium?
  • (2024-10-22) Eric S: does absolutely nothing after a short period. completely worthless.
  • (2024-10-19) Azimuth Images: People who are writing bad reviews saying now the dev wants paying need to read the e-mail he sent out abut the update. The dev isn't asking existing users for more money at all - just read the e-mail. Click "free trial" then on that screen there is a log in for 'existing users'. Click that, put in your registered e-mail address and you get a response in under 10 seconds saying it has been activated.
  • (2024-10-19) Zavt Particles (Roman): developer is an actual idiot. no one wants to pay you, you scum bag.
  • (2024-10-19) 廖韋承: my country "Republic of China (Taiwan)" is not on list.
  • (2024-10-17) Ƙríѕтᥲ: Suddenly they want us to pay for an extension that’s been free all this time. Get popups bugging you to pay them every time you open the browser, now. If I was going to pay to remove ads for youtube, why would I pay for an extension when I could pay google? lol Uninstalling.
  • (2024-10-16) Deino150: terrible developer.
  • (2024-10-16) a c: As a student, I was struggling to afford the Fadblock extension, but the developer generously gave me additional time access. This is the only extension I've found that works flawlessly and consistently blocks all YouTube ads. For those concerned about paying for the extension, please go easy on the developer. Unlike large corporations, this is a one-time cost for something that actually works, and you're supporting an individual who's maintaining it. Trust me, it's better to pay once and block all ads rather than giving money monthly to a rich corporation. This extension is definitely worth it. Again, huge thanks to the developer.
  • (2024-10-16) chubby checker: the dude says he isn't forcing this on us. then what the hell do you call these stupid popups if it popped up once then left me alone then that would be one thing but now every time i open chrome it keeps popping up and it wont leave me alone. having an annoying pop up that wont leave users alone isnt gonna help you get donations dude so either stop the damn pop ups or your just gonna keep getting negative reviews.
  • (2024-10-16) William Hefferin: Went from a free alternative that asked for donations every now and then, to a flat out "subscription only" service. So instead of paying money to YouTube in order to remove ads, you pay money to Fadblocker in order to remove ads. Terrible scheme and a failure of a once actually useful software.
  • (2024-10-15) Carlos Cornejo: It would be so much different if the developer asked for donations instead of putting a paywall as Youtube does, the tool work as intended, but the way of asking for money is not the correct one. The developer should know that not everyone has the same thought as him to compare the high cost of youtube vs $5.99 The developer should think as a user.
  • (2024-10-15) Gubeitak: The only reason we all installed this extension is because we don't like things being sold to us/advertised to LMAOOO why'd you think it'd go over well when you start advertising/begging for money to use the extension
  • (2024-10-15) Eric: Used to work fairly well and was a good supplement to normal ad-blocking extensions, but recently it is having trouble with actually bypassing ads - instead it pauses them and I have to click "skip" manually to get the video to play - and on top of that, today it started asking me to "start your free trial", so you know what comes next. Buy a subscription? No, it's time to remove it.
  • (2024-10-15) Francisco Enrique Pérez Abreu: "but YouTube started a intense war against us " that means nothing... Now requiring payments. There's no issues if you want to charge, issue is changing it when it wasn't like that and after getting popular. Basically bait and switch.
  • (2024-10-15) Steven Huffnagel: Dear sir, can you please include a link to payment in the description? I automatically closed the pop-up in Vivaldi and now I cannot find the option to pay. Thank you for your work. We need to keep small projects alive in the face of corporations who think they can do anything just because they have a monopoly.
  • (2024-10-15) Michael O'Malley: Worked about 50% of the time before, and now you can't use it unless you pay money. It's a really stupid idea to make users suddenly pay for something that was free when it doesn't even work and will eventually be shut down by youtube. I'd rather pay for youtube premium.
  • (2024-10-15) Grzegorz Tomasiak: a trial, haha for something that barely works, that's a big move. Deleting and paying for youtube premium. Finally no ads whatsoever, that extension unfortunately have problems with skipping ads.
  • (2024-10-15) Pizza: Great Adblocker, sadly it's stealthily just a "trial version" and asks for licensing. I am not giving credit card info to a chrome app that gets purchased left and right every week and was turned into a virus in the past. Uninstalled.
  • (2024-10-15) Brad Viviano: Been using this extension for a while, only one I found that still works well with YouTube Ads. Was surprised when it stopped working today, but after reading totally understand the developer needing to make a buck. $6 is a small price to pay to avoid commercials and interruptions, so I am now a paid subscriber. PLEASE keep this updated and working!!!
  • (2024-10-15) emily jones: wanna know the best way for me not to use your product. by giving a random popup making me think i got a virus. because of this i will not be using your service.
  • (2024-10-15) Ari Tepes: just got a popup for a trial? interesting... might have been sold off to another owner again...
  • (2024-10-08) Dyos: Havent been working for months but the owner is trying to make it seem like there is no problem so he could milk it until the end. Do not install its a waste of time. checkout Ad Skipper does a much better job
  • (2024-10-02) Meghan Dingman: Most recent version automatically reloads page when YT's block-block is triggered, only downside is it causes the video to start from the beginning and I wish there was a way for that to not happen but it's a minor inconvenience comparatively.
  • (2024-10-01) Raymond Hsu: It used to work perfectly for a while, until recently it gets detected very often, and I had to reload the website to continue watching a video. I recommend uBlock Origin if anyone's looking for an alternative.
  • (2024-09-26) 金正恩: trash
  • (2024-09-25) Ugly bug: Not dependable. Paid a lifetime fee and It still asks to pay for it when I get on You tube. Not worth the hassle. Just had to sit through a commercial. All adblockers are off including browsers adblocker.
  • (2024-09-25) Jabe Jabe jabe: on my mother soul dont listen to anyone sayin ts dont work they ah lyin crazy as soon as i get a ad it makes it skippable instantly on my soul had to get a new one bc my opera gx adblock dont work nm but ts work wonders i swear to god
  • (2024-09-22) Nino: Works!
  • (2024-09-22) christocr: Right on! Finally back to not having to suffer through Youtube's "mandated" ads. Add On: Originally I gave this five starts. It used to work REALLY well. But lately, it is more trouble than it is worth. Youtube detects it at some point, screen blacks out (or it warns about ad blockers violating Youtube's STUPIDITY), you have to reload, and you lose your place in the video most of the time. I think someone bought the rights to this extension (from the original author) and is no longer maintaining/upgrading it. Pity. I also think Youtube is shooting itself in the foot with the draconian adds thing. Sooner or later people will get sick of it and another platform will be developed that is more like Youtube used to be in the "good ol' days."
