*** For Chrome OS only ***
You must have Secure Shell installed for this to work: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/iodihamcpbpeioajjeobimgagajmlibd
When clicked, this app opens a new crosh window without any chrome. This way, Ctrl-N/T/etc go to crosh and aren't picked up by Chrome.
Note: If you want, you can always open a crosh window by using Secure Shell directly. This app is merely a convenience for people who like it. See the Secure Shell FAQ for more details:

- (2024-11-09) Adam Knag: this is goated fr and for all of the uneducated dummies: FOR EVERYONE THAT IS SAYING: - It doesn't work/it's a scam - It won't work on windows/macOS/ ANY OTHER OS Crosh is for ChromeOS SPECIFICALLY. It will not work from ANY other OS. If you think it's a scam/virus/malware, it is not. It is downloaded on my Chromebook and i'm not infected with any virus (writing this on Windows 11). THIS WAS NOT MADE BY GOOGLE/MICROSOFT!!!
- (2024-04-24) Velizar Krapova: its cool
- (2023-09-16) jen rep: its just a scammed
- (2022-10-13) William: it dosent work on windows
- (2021-10-17) RJV B (RJVB): This would be worth 4 or 5 stars if - it would remember the window size I use (or allowed me to configure it, which AFAICT is not foreseen) - it would be reopened with my session after having logged off or shut down the machine.
- (2020-11-10) Little Mike: When I do Ctrl+Alt+T it does not work help please
- (2020-10-10) SalmonSoup15: its literally a terrible version of a notepad without a cursor or an option to save. no commands or anything works
- (2019-10-10) Ryan Hamilton: it dose not work just a blank page
- (2019-07-08) Adam Allgood: The window frequently opens to about:blank and then nothing happens. I have to press ctrl-alt-t to open crosh in a tab, and then open the crosh window app to get it to work. Also, when it does start up correctly, I cannot immediately begin typing. I have to click inside the window first, which is a bit annoying.
- (2019-06-11) Emily O’Hern: This app is so bad!! It doesn't even open up anything for me!! I don't recommend it and plz PLZ DON'T DOWNLOAD IT.
- (2019-04-26) Meriicistyle: about:blank THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS BLANK WINDOW
- (2019-04-14) Jeffrey Baitis: This used to work but as of 74.0.3729.68 (Official Build) Google_Squawks.5216.152.189 it seems broken
- (2019-03-23) Noah Trivedi: I love this app. It gives me everything I need. If I have an issue, it only takes changing one setting (usually) to fix it.
- (2019-01-28) Jordan Limor: I really like this application, however it seems broken on most recent stable chrome os update
- (2019-01-06) Raymond Ferguson: Chromeos is very opinionated about what my keys should do. What if I'm using vim, or emacs, or anything that requires control keys? At least this is a workable terminal without flipping over to a full screen cruiton x server or a vty. I'm guessing this is less of an issue with linux app support, but that's not made it to my cave based device yet. Essentially this is just a workaround for the lack of a way to turn off or override control keys mapped by chrome on chromeos.
- (2018-08-22) Lynne Whitehorn: Works as advertised. Can't ask for more.
- (2018-03-30) Albert: The best way to get a terminal on CrOS/Chrome OS! It occasionally gets broken by OS updates - you can get a reasonable substitute (as long as Secure Shell is installed) by pressing Ctrl-Alt-T and pinning the tab to the launcher.
- (2018-03-25) 張文森: Doesnt work after ChromeOS 65 update.
- (2018-03-03) Chloe Mattison: i couldnt do anything and i could not delete it
- (2018-02-14) Alan Hardman: Adds so much more flexibility to crosh, I really couldn't use Chrome OS without it. Only wish is that it set window.color to black or dark gray to match the terminal.
- (2018-01-24) Мартин Бейкер: Only 1 tab, i can't change language using Ctrl+Space or Ctrl+Shift+Space.
- (2017-10-27) Irek: thanks a lot, it's great
- (2017-10-21) Benjamin Hays: This app is great and I have been using it for years. It has turned my chromebook into a productive machine. The important part for me is that this app captures all keyboard input and directs it to the console instead of letting chormeOS pick it up. That makes it possible to use something like emacs or vi that rely heavily on modifier keys. If you are getting a white screen, you probably need to reinstall Secure Shell.
- (2017-09-19) Kevin Allen: no work. dennis plz fix
- (2017-05-06) Ke Wang: It's currently broken. I saw the following error Refused to execute inline script because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive: "default-src 'self' blob: filesystem: chrome-extension-resource:". Either the 'unsafe-inline' keyword, a hash ('sha256-tm0toSqDUqOSSypuF8KNyIhLMxj92fkPiyb+dMoMvzQ='), or a nonce ('nonce-...') is required to enable inline execution. Note also that 'script-src' was not explicitly set, so 'default-src' is used as a fallback. I'm using Version 58.0.3029.89 beta (64-bit) Platform 9334.58.0 (Official Build) beta-channel banon ARC Version 3935470 Firmware Google_Banon.7287.313.0
- (2017-04-04) The Stout-Hearted Tears: Doesn't work since 57.0.2987.137 update (doesn't want to launch)
- (2017-03-26) Masaki Muranaka: I can't launch this app on recent versions of ChromeOS. ( 57.0.2987.123 (64-bit)) And we can get similar windows without this app by a few click.
- (2017-03-24) Meadhbh Hamrick: Doesn't work with 57. Hopefully it'll be updated.
- (2017-02-22) David-Lee Kulsch (The1andONLYdave): Stopped working in latest beta: Version 57.0.2987.32 beta (64-bit). Reinstalling don't fix.
- (2017-01-25) Dhruv Nambiar: Tried it. And it crashed. Tried again. Crashed. Just use the Ctrl+alt+t to get to crosh, not this app
- (2017-01-20) Jezra: Crosh Window greatly improved my ChromeOS user experience by allowing me to use ChromeOS in my preferred "Linux" way: shell and browser in their own windows, and using ALT+TAB to switch between them.
- (2016-12-26) A: Doesn't work on the latest dev channel (57.0.2951.0), as mentioned by previous commenter.
- (2016-11-04) Jack Tiedemann: It is awesome! Even though I don't understand half of it's use!
- (2016-10-21) Martin Sax Sielemann: dosent work anymore
- (2016-10-06) Zane Hitchcox: Giving a 1 star, because there's no support tab, and I'm having a problem As usual google developers arrogant enough to think their software is going to run perfect, and they don't need any feedback or any alerts when there's an error. Dumbest geniuses on the planet.
- (2016-10-03) Tasty Minerals: Does not work with crouton.
- (2016-09-22) Amy Hare: wont work :(:(
- (2016-09-16) Eduardo Orive Vinuesa (Edorka): Not working: This site can’t be reached
- (2016-08-11) Funky Furret: it says my chrome is out of date but its not
- (2016-07-11) Alex Delifer: Please add a keyboard shortcut <3
- (2016-07-07) Sina Siadat: It is awesome, I use CTRL-w in Vim a lot and this app makes it work perfectly. One request: I wish we could hide the top bar (that says chronos@localhost:/) and make it completely fullscreen. Also, M-Enter (Alt+Enter) does not work.
- (2016-05-30) Zhiguo Long: Really useful for using crouton command line + vim! This makes chromebook a very lightweight and powerful box for research and coding! Thanks!
- (2016-03-26) Dale Brayden: I've been using this app for about 3 years, and it has worked well. 5 stars, for sure. Sadly, it is occasionally temporarily broken by a new ChromeOS push. Fortunately, there is an easy workaround that makes this app unnecessary: From the browser, press crtrl-alt-t. This will bring up crosh in a tab. Then in the upper right browser menu, select 'More Tools > Add to Shelf'. Then right click on the newly added icon in the app shelf, and select 'Open as Window'. As far as I can tell, the above procedure gives you everything that the Crosh Window app provides.
- (2016-03-09) Siddh Bamb: Doesn't work on HP Probook6460b.
- (2016-02-24) Joep van Rij: its perfect
- (2016-02-11) Austin Camacho: This is a cool app!
- (2015-11-17) cutter john: handy, but unlike christopher I have NO dox, just a disjointed collection of questionably dated dox, so far most of which I've found to be outdated, e.g. chrome://imageburner is still referenced but utterly phails on my machine(appears to start working then nothing) while the "standalone" works, etc. 3 stars: if it had tabbing capabilities for more tabs I'd give it more, but yeah also I can see where this is likely leveraging hidden capabilities, so... [EDIT] 16/11/15 borked again [/EDIT]
- (2015-10-30) Savion Mathis: it never even worked when i first started it up
- (2015-08-14) Hans VB: Together with crouton, this is a killer-app! I would give it 5 stars if there was a way to configure a few chrome-shortcuts. I would really like ALT-[, ALT-] and ALT-+ to be working as to easily resize the crosh-window just like a browser-window.
- (2015-08-08) Data Whore: this app is broke, says it points to a wrong url.. is someone going to fix this? this is across factory resets
