Scans QR codes using your webcam.

Image from store ScanQR
Description from store Scans QR codes and displays their contents on a Chromebook or other computer with a suitable webcam. What's a "suitable" webcam? It's one that can focus the QR code within the red square in the app sharply enough that the app can decode it. My test results: - Chromebook Pixel: yes - Samsung ARM Chromebook: yes - Acer C7 Chromebook: yes - CR48: yes - 2009 MacBook Pro: yes, except for very small, dense QR codes - 2011 iMac: no, unless the QR code is ridiculously large (over one foot across) If Chrome implements an API to let developers adjust camera-focus settings, I'll be able to improve the app to work with more cameras. It looks like Chrome Version 71 broke the app. It will not allow access to the camera any longer. It just opens a black box with a pulsating red scanner line. Same thing on chromebook and pc with Chrome Ver 71.

  • (2015-05-09) Tony Scardina: Seems to work perfectly on Windows 7 Professional, but on the same hardware running Kali Linux, it does not work. I used "gstreamer-properties" to test the webcam itself, and it works inside Kali. I would have given five stars if not for this.
