Just set your coordinates and go. Stellarium calculates the positions of the Sun and Moon, planets and stars, and draws how the sky would look to an observer depending on their location and the time. It can also draw the constellations and simulate astronomical phenomena such as meteor showers, and solar or lunar eclipses. Stellarium may be used as an educational tool for teaching about the night sky, as an observational aid for amateur astronomers wishing to plan a night's observing, or simply as a curiosity (it's fun!). Because of the high quality of the graphics that Stellarium produces, it is used in some real planetarium projector products. Some amateur astronomy groups use it to create sky maps for describing regions of the sky in articles for newsletters and magazines. Some of Stellarium features: — Default catalogue of over 600,000 stars. — Extra catalogues with more than 210 million stars. — Asterisms and illustrations of the constellations. — Constellations for 15 different cultures. — Images of nebulae (full Messier catalogue). — Realistic Milky Way. — Very realistic atmosphere, sunrise and sunset. — The planets and their satellites.

  • (2020-08-29) M C A: Hmm, it works the first time, after restart it again it shows "opening a new window", and that's all. Poor performance.
  • (2019-02-05) Anna Sheehan: Do you know HOW MANY YEARS I have tried to find the constellations and solar system above the horizon at time and place of my birth location! ...way too long!!! Thank you for making my dream come true. I have had this deep, deep desire to know, but why I need to know is still not clear to me. This is one step clearer to understanding...something?? Its all SO VERY EXCITING, THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!
  • (2018-01-07) Tataniqua Heard: Terrible I don't even understand this it doesn't leave the start up page/ Just terrible and I have a chromebook but I down;oaded the app for the chromebook but itstill isn't working properly.

  • (2017-04-15) Red Fox: Pathetically slow when it actually decides to load which isnt that often. Now deleted.
  • (2016-09-15) Alexandra Birch: literally the SLOWEST THING on chromebooks. like it won't even let me enter a location without totally freezing. first you have to register then you can barely use the program. waste of my time. don't waste yours.
  • (2016-09-10) Sylvain Panneau: Way too slow
  • (2016-05-31) Angus Shaw: I have both the PC & Mobile versions of this app, which, incidently work just like the tin description. This version for Chromebook is absolute rubbish. From the intro screen where it requires you to register (everyone wants their hand in your pants/device, don't they?) to the first jerky stutter movements of time change. I only spent a couple of minutes with it, trying out a few tasks that I perform with the other versions and this poor app is so_o_o painfully slow, I never did finish most of them. At some point, someone needs to either rework this or wait until Chromebooks catch up to what this app needs to run proper. For the registration requirement alone, I will not download this again. I would not waste time with trying this app until serious changes are made.
  • (2016-01-16) Wayne Niamat: It forces you to register. No thanks.
  • (2015-08-19) JOSHUA SELPH: VERY SLOW FRAMERATE FOR CHROMEBOOK. TERRIBLE!!!!
  • (2015-07-03) Joo-Won Jung: It's just a hooker to the website. And the website provides screen of a virtual machine. You'd better install Stellarium itself on your PC.
  • (2015-06-21) Steve Locks: Too laggy to be usable on Chromebook.
  • (2015-06-14) Chris Rock: Stellarium is far better than other planetariums!
  • (2015-01-20) José Roberto De Sousa Filho: very slow
  • (2014-12-28) Paul Berry: Works ok on a PC, but the Chromebook version runs very slow. Chromebook version times out and looses connection with the server.
  • (2014-12-19) Satish Tyagi: The best sky watching program out there -- have it installed on Windows, Mac and Android!
  • (2014-11-29) Martina Anne: can't find a way to alter location
