Secure Shell is an xterm-compatible terminal emulator and stand-alone ssh client for Chrome. It uses Native-Client to connect directly to ssh servers without the need for external proxies.
A SFTP command line client is included. On Chrome OS, you can create SFTP mounts and access them from the Files app!
It has been well tested for a couple of years.

- (2024-12-27) Kiran Jonnalagadda: How do I remove this app? I'm on macOS, but this app synced over from an earlier ChromeOS device. It's installed for me and blocks the "ssh" prefix in the search bar. It does not appear in the list of installed extensions. There is a disabled "Remove from Chrome" button on this page.
- (2022-07-14) Michael Koren: This is much better than the new undeprecated app since it fits inside a chrome tab like I want it to!
- (2021-03-02) Osct: Good App use especially when u need it for you assignment in LVL 3

- (2020-12-13) Vitali Neumann: The new POPup is not nice and frankly distracting. can I turn this off?
- (2020-11-29) Isaac Geller: Something is seriously wrong with the export/import backups function. Unfortunately, as much as I have tried to identify the problem, the results just seem random. Periodically, restoring a backup changes all saved hosts to 'no name'. On the next attempt, it'll load all the save hosts but no terminal options. Yet on another try, it'll only load some of the saved hosts. On and on like that. Try as I might, I have not been able to establish a pattern of behavior. Other than that, my only complaint is that there is no good way to organize saved hosts that I can find - other than mucking with the JSON of the backup.
- (2020-11-04) Xavier Martinez: Bad app keeps saying connection refused when I try to connect to what it tells me to
- (2020-09-23) Wyatt Hayes: Connections always exited when it started.
- (2020-08-29) John Weber: One issue that I noticed is that in tablet mode the password is shown as plain text when entered from an on-screen keyboard.

- (2020-06-25) Natalie !: Linux mint 19.3---works in google chrome, hangs at loading NaCl in chromium. Works great in google chrome on mac also. I wish it worked in chromium
- (2020-04-08) Şafak Ulusoy: Works great !
- (2020-03-04) Markus Mobius: I absolutely love this extension. I have to login to about 20 servers across many clients. I love that the extension syncs the connection profiles through the Google account. By far the most useful extension ever and it made working on a chromebook so much more productive.
- (2020-01-19) Kupfer Kuppel: Chromebooks are limited, but this allows us to get around the worst limits and get work done. Most issues have been eliminated.
- (2019-09-13) Aung Kyaw Kyaw: The best so far!
- (2019-08-10) Tyler Tresslar: It was working great but now I can't sign into any of my servers. Eventually figured out the issue. ssh forgot which id file to use
- (2019-06-16) Bill Brannon: Wow, thank you. Need a way to get some openvpn files from my pi to a windows 10 pc. After lots of fumbling around this was perfect and easy. Thanks.
- (2019-06-04) clarence kennedy: When I upload file from local to remote server By using sftp module. It seems that the file is broken all the time. Json file can not be decode.3Q for focusing on this problem.
- (2019-05-31) Steve Sherman: Use this daily to manage my environment with SSH. The only thing that would nice to have is session logging.
- (2019-05-23) Jake Dahlstedt: This application was and still is on the top of my list of apps/extensions for Chrome, but as of the latest Canary update (Version 76.0.3800.0 64-bit) I can't launch the application period, it freezes chrome and reboots the chromebook. I'm using a Samsung Series 3 Chromebook, CELES/braswell model
- (2019-05-16) Eric To: Needs work. 1) Need to have an option of opening ssh link in NEW WINDOW. 2) Clicking BACK once after opening a ssh link effectively leave the extension in a limbo state.
- (2019-04-29) Tim Babcock: Works will with Ubuntu 18. Able to use MySQL server 8 without a problem using SSH.
- (2019-04-08) Joshua Niland: Great work guys...this extension is just brilliant! So convenient having it auto deploy and sync the config to each of my computers. This is now a must have extension for me and I am finding myself using putty less and less.
- (2019-03-16) very very slow sftp connexion. Sometimes the transfer stop for a while...
- (2019-03-16) Grayson: i disliked it because it did not tell me my password or it just so laggy when you get to that part that i never could and i'm really sad because i really wanted to use my skills to code a good web site for my youtube channel but my dreams are now crushed great
- (2019-03-14) Very useful Chrome extension. I have used it for some years on my ChromeBook with my key id_rsa and it has always worked. More recently I have started using it in the Chrome browser in Windows 10.
- (2019-03-14) Aedan Ball: I've been struggling with remotely managing my server from multiple machines, this is the perfect solution for me! It's surprising that I didn't find this sooner, amazing app!
- (2019-03-13) Works well. Would be great if it allowed for easy copy/paste of all text from the log. Can only copy/paste the current shown text even if all text is selected.
- (2019-03-09) Gibies George: I like it very much and I am using it frequently except in the case when I have to do some X window based task on my remote server. It would be very much helpful if I can get the X window on localhost like in the case of "ssh -X". But unfortunately I don't find an option for X window display on local machine or on the chrome browser.
- (2019-01-23) Joshua Gallagher: App suddenly does not work in latest ChromeOS update
- (2019-01-20) Murk “Котий” Customs: First time i move terminal tab, and its turned into black screen. Refresh is useless. Now i dont know when process became finished. Fix this
- (2018-11-25) Trevor Sullivan: Works okay with password-based authentication. When I try to import my private key file, it just silently fails. Less secure this way, but at least it kind of works.
- (2018-11-08) Haochi Zhang: Very helpful, no need to use Putty all the time anymore.
- (2018-11-05) Sanjay M: From past few weeks I'm not able to copy and paste more than one page content. Earlier it was allowing to copy more than one page lines eg- more than 1000 lins but now though I copy full contents it pastes only one page content. Please fix this issue ASAP..
- (2018-11-04) Marvin Tapessur: Love it... I would love to also see mosh support!
- (2018-09-25) Luis Perez: 2 issues. doesn't automatically log sessions & recently unable to copy more than a screens worth of text, so running config for example, cannot be copied all at once.
- (2018-09-23) Christian Moscardi: Doesn't support x11 forwarding. This is necessary for my work (and that of many folks in academia), and for better or worse will be for some time yet. Unfortunately, this makes chrome OS way less viable for me, even though a full-fledged linux is overkill (all I need is a thin client, and the browser is nice to have).
- (2018-09-20) Chad: I'm soooo happy chromebook has a proper SSH client! This was essential for making ChromeOS viable.
- (2018-07-31) damian: wonderful - ssh with id_rsa style keys - sftp mount to native file system, edit in caret etc - image preview :O
- (2018-07-25) Adam Miller: I work full time from a Pixelbook these days and this extension is absolutely essential to my productivity. It's great!
- (2018-07-09) zheng shi: It is good but when I login into Linode by this App, it is very slow. Please fix it.
- (2018-07-06) Marc Bernard Schauber: It works. It's missing the ability to have multiple ssh connections open at the same time.
- (2018-06-29) chris lewandowski: I like it. It works.
- (2018-06-26) Marko Kolombo: really nice! I am connecting to rpi, and since I'm experimenting, I re-flash often the OS. As soon as I try to reconnect it blocks connection warning for SPOOFING risk. Only solution is to remove from chrome and then re-install this extension. Any better idea/solution to avoid this?
- (2018-06-09) ahmet oğuz mermerkaya: Thank you for extension. How to write vertical bar? I could not type vertical bar. I am using Chrome on Mac
- (2018-06-08) Kaloyan Gangov: splendid, it does the job so easy
- (2018-05-24) Will z: It's great. However, can I set ServerAliveInterval on client-side? Cause i usually ssh to a lot of temporary servers, which makes modifying every sshd_config on server-side such a annoying thing...
