Voice input for Claude, ChatGPT, and Perplexity

AI Hotkey Speakeasy
Description from store

Voice input for your AI chats in 2 keystrokes. Work 33-100% faster. No servers, no data collection — your voice never touches us.

33% TO 100% IMPROVED USER EFFICIENCY:
Stop reaching for the mouse. Research on Fitts' Law and homing time (Springer, "Hand Movements Using Keyboard and Mouse") shows that moving your hand from keyboard to mouse accounts for 42% of the total interaction time — and every switch costs cognitive refocusing on top of the physical movement. AI Hotkey Speakeasy eliminates all of that. Two keystrokes, hands never leave the keyboard.

ChatGPT — 33% faster. ChatGPT has a mic button, but you have to mouse-click to start, click to stop, then click send. With AI Hotkey Speakeasy: Hotkey → Speak → Enter. 2 keystrokes instead of 3 mouse clicks. Uses ChatGPT's own high-quality transcription.

Perplexity — 33% faster. Same story — Perplexity has a mic button, but it's mouse-click to start, click stop, then enter. AI Hotkey Speakeasy replaces those clicks with a hotkey and Enter. Uses Perplexity's own native transcription.

Claude — 100% better. Claude has no voice input on desktop at all. AI Hotkey Speakeasy adds it. Hotkey → Speak → Enter. Uses Chrome's speech recognition — not perfect, but good enough for AI to understand. Goes from impossible to effortless.

YOUR VOICE DATA NEVER TOUCHES OUR SERVERS (WE HAVE NO SERVERS):
Other voice extensions say things like "we do not share your data with third parties outside the services required by this extension." Read that carefully. That's a long way of saying your voice data absolutely does pass through their servers for processing. They just don't share it further. Maybe.

We don't use weasel words. Here's our privacy in plain English: this extension has no servers. No backend, no API, no analytics, no telemetry. It makes zero external network calls of its own. Your voice never leaves services you're already using — ChatGPT's native transcription, Perplexity's native transcription, or Chrome's built-in Web Speech API. Your settings are stored locally on your device. The authors of this extension have zero access to your data. Not limited access. Zero.

HOW IT WORKS:
Two keystrokes. That's it.

1. Hotkey (default: Cmd+D on Mac / Ctrl+D on Windows)
2. Speak
3. Enter (or Hotkey again) — stops and sends your message

Your hands never leave the keyboard. No mouse, no clicking mic buttons, no hunting for UI elements.

TWO MODES:
Set the mode per app from the extension popup:

Direct Mode (default, recommended) — Your voice goes straight into the chat input field. No popup, no intermediary. Hotkey, speak, Enter, done. ChatGPT and Perplexity use their own native transcription for the best quality. Claude uses Chrome's speech recognition.

Modal Mode (optional) — Opens a voice popup where you can review and edit your transcription before sending. Uses Chrome's speech recognition for all sites — not perfect, but absolutely usable for AI chatbots that can easily understand a few misspelled or mistranscribed words here and there. Includes smart text insertion, language switching mid-recording, and a send button.

FEATURES:
- 2-Keystroke Workflow: Hotkey to start, Enter to send. No mouse required.
- Per-App Settings: Set Direct or Modal mode separately for each app.
- Native Transcription: ChatGPT and Perplexity use their own high-quality voice-to-text in Direct mode.
- Claude Voice Input: Adds voice input where none exists on desktop.
- Multi-Language Support: 16 languages with on-the-fly switching.
- Smart Text Editing: Insert at cursor or highlight-to-replace (Modal Mode).
- Draggable Modal: Move the voice popup anywhere on screen.
- Customizable Hotkey: Set any key combination you prefer.
- Free and Private: No data collection, no external servers.

SPEECH-TO-TEXT QUALITY:
- ChatGPT (Direct): Uses ChatGPT's native transcription — high quality.
- Perplexity (Direct): Uses Perplexity's native transcription — high quality.
- Claude (Direct): Uses Chrome Web Speech Recognition API — good quality, AI handles any minor errors.
- All sites (Modal): Uses Chrome Web Speech Recognition API. English is best, 15 additional languages supported.

CUSTOMIZING YOUR HOTKEY:
1. Click the extension icon and click the shortcut box
2. The Chrome shortcuts page opens automatically
3. Hold your preferred modifier (Cmd, Ctrl, Shift, Alt) and press a letter
4. It's set immediately — no need to press Enter

KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS:
- Start Voice: Your hotkey (default Cmd+D / Ctrl+D) — customizable
- Stop & Send: Enter or press hotkey again
- New Line: Shift+Enter
- Toggle Mic: Space (Modal Mode only, when cursor is not in text box)
- Close Popup: Escape (Modal Mode only)

WHY KEYBOARD-FIRST?
The AI chatbots make you mouse-click a button to start speaking. That means:

1. Move hand to mouse
2. Find the mic button
3. Click to start
4. Speak
5. Click to stop
6. Click send

That's 6 steps with 3 mouse actions. AI Hotkey Speakeasy: Hotkey → Speak → Enter. 3 steps, 0 mouse actions.

ACTIVELY MAINTAINED:
AI chatbots update their interfaces frequently. We're committed to keeping this extension current with the latest versions of ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. If you find the extension has an error or something breaks after a chatbot update, please leave a support comment and we will fix it.

RATE US:
If AI Hotkey Speakeasy makes you faster and gets you off voice extensions that "do not share your data with third parties outside the services required by this extension" (translation: they absolutely process and share your voice data on their servers and third party servers), please leave a 5-star rating. It helps other users find an extension that actually respects their privacy.

There is no polish language or I can't find it.

I'm also experiencing popup not working for perplexity. There's an exception in console when opening perplexity website that's got to be related since it doesn't appear with this extension disabled: "Denying load of <URL>. Resources must be listed in the web_accessible_resources manifest key in order to be loaded by pages outside the extension."

Microphone popup doesn't appear when using Perplexity, works on ChatGPT.

It works beautifully. Thank you for creating this. I give it 5 stars. Sadly, I won't be able to use it as is because, apparently it installs but doesn't work on Thorium browser (a chromium based browser.) I thought that might be the case so I tested it in Chrome and it worked great. Maybe one day for Thorium!

This Chrome extension is pretty handy. The microphone feature is easy to use and makes chatting with ChatGPT convenient. The speech recognition is solid, so I don't have to type as much. Definitely a useful tool.

Does not work it seems claude gemini chatgpt all dont work as f 12.7.24 for me its crazy that 8 billion people cant get text to speach to work something that was working 10 years ago very mysterious.

It's a really useful tool, and I find that I use ChatGPT and Perplexity a lot more often now that I don't have to type. Definitely worth a try.

I've been using AI Speakeasy a lot lately, and it’s awesome! It makes chatting with ChatGPT and other AI chatbots like Perplexity and Claude super easy. Just talk, and it turns your voice into text—so convenient. I saw someone had trouble with shortcuts, but I didn't have any issues. The instructions were pretty clear to me. Just took a minute to set it up with a custom shortcut (Shift Alt Space) to change the default, and I was good to go. If you need something to quickly transcribe your voice for AI chats, this is a great tool. Definitely recommend giving it a try!

Nope doesn't work at all . I pinned the short cut but..... not actually a shortcut just a dropdown menu with a bunch of instructions on key combinations on how to activate the mic . of course none of these worked the shift/cntrl/p combo opens my printer interface. Honestly someone or many someone's need their h1b visa revoked .
