Easily understand any formula in Google Sheets with Formula Explorer’s intuitive pop-up tools.
Press Ctrl+Q to open the Calculation Steps view, where formulas are broken down step-by-step, showing the full calculation process with corresponding values.
In Formula Explorer, Calculation Steps helps you explore even the most complex Google Sheets formulas. Logical functions like IF, IFS, and CHOOSE highlight active branches, while functions like VLOOKUP, OFFSET, INDEX, and INDIRECT clearly show their target locations.
Need to trace precedents? Press Ctrl+Shift+Q to launch the Precedents Explorer, which helps you visualise all referenced cells and recursively analyse the formulas they depend on—all within the same window. Select any row to instantly jump to the precedent cell in the spreadsheet, or click a range within the formula directly to jump to its location within the precedents tree.

Formula Explorer supports formula analysis in all major locales. Detection of special functions is now available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Russian.
After installation, log in with your Google Account to activate your free license. Formula Explorer only requests access to your Google Sheets when evaluating formulas or analysing precedents.
