Since Google is soon to discontinue Standalone App support in the coming year, I am actively pursuing standalone options. Upvote the issue at https://github.com/jomurgel/PocketCaster/issues/5 if this is something you'd like to see.
I am NOT, nor is this app, affiliated with Pocket Casts or Shiftjelly in any way. I just wanted a standalone app for Pocket Casts and apparently so do a lot of other people.
Pocket Casts and their logo are copyright Shiftjelly. Check out their app at http://www.shiftyjelly.com/pocketcasts.

- (2018-08-23) David B: Works beautifully on my Chromebook. Integrates seamlessly with my phone's Android app.
- (2018-04-17) Leif Anderson: a pocketcaster that doesn't cast podcasts from chrome to a chromecast isn't great. also didn't work with vivaldi
- (2017-12-20) Edmund Leibert III: Excellent. Does everything I expect.
- (2017-11-28) Jeff Consi: This app is so good. Pocket Casts is THE BEST podcast app for iOS and Android hands down. This is the version I use on desktop and it is just as great as the mobil app. If you dig podcasts, you will dig this app for Chrome.
- (2017-11-10) The multimedia keys worked the first time I ran the app but now they don't work. It's just a launcher in the system dock now. Uninstalling.
- (2017-11-08) Tom Edwards: Doesn't work. Same as Kelly, I have the "machine learning" message and it won't load any of my podcasts :(
- (2017-10-24) Niklas Lagström: Doesnt load any of my podcasts. All I get is "Sorry! There was an error loading your podcast."
- (2017-10-20) Kelly Gibbs: Current version is not working. Gets stuck on some machine learning message I think trying to suggest podcasta. I dont care about that. Now when I click to play the app says Sorry there was a problem loading your podcast.
- (2017-10-19) Thomas Otto: I Would use this more over the PocketCasts Webapp if it had support for global hotkeys for jumping forward/backward in a cast rather than just play next song or play last song.
- (2017-07-17) Grant Mohns: would nice if it had Chromecast support
- (2017-07-13) Robin Sloan: Awesome to be able to listen across all devices, Apple, Android and Computer.
- (2017-02-27) Rustam Galimyanov: Great!
- (2017-02-23) Rafael Cavalcante: Amazing solution if you have problems with having an open tab all day long for PocketCasts. Best solution ever!
- (2017-02-20) Sadettin Demirel: If you purchase the web app, no need the iTunes for podcasts or any other podcast app. Thanks jomurgel
- (2016-12-03) Thomas A: Just buffers. Can't play in Chrome. Works with Vivaldi browser.
- (2016-09-10) Ivo Stružinský (Delltar): This is great! It's not like having proper native desktop app, but it has the most important functionality – ability to play/pause and jump forward/back using keyboard media keys. That is massive improvement in user experience in comparison with just running pocketcasts in a tab!
- (2016-08-22) Norah Morris: Supporting full screen on video podcasts would be great! Currently the window decoration at the top is still displayed.
- (2016-08-16) Leonardo de Castro Monteiro: I already have this app on android, so having to pay it to use as an extension of google chrome just doesn't feels right. If it was a full windows app, I could think about paying for it. But no thanks. Great app by the way. Just not worth to pay two times for it.
- (2016-08-11) Yousra El Hassan: Perfect! Incredibly convenient.
- (2016-07-25) Perfect
- (2016-07-19) Phil Garwood: Exactly what I was looking for -- Keyboard shortcuts!
- (2016-05-21) Michael Metalios: No free trial? I have to buy it right away? I really was looking forward to this...
- (2016-04-28) Matthew Hazelbaker: Great application for Pocket Casts users. Not having to go from tab to tab through Chrome makes this app beyond amazing.
- (2016-04-26) Pedro Martinez: It works great on Mac!
- (2016-04-26) Edreih Aldana: It's great. I would like to see in the future the ability to use media keys and be able to download/cast episodes. :)
- (2016-03-19) Samantha Kanyasi: i think $12 aud was a bit pricey for the desktop version, but i do love the app and being able to sync between my phone and desktop.
- (2016-03-16) Miguel G: I love it! sure it beats having an open tab on my browser
- (2016-03-07) Tyler Gile: It didn't give me a free trial, and immediately wanted me to buy it.I did, and then figured out that you cannot download the podcasts from the app, kind of crucial for me. Yet because the payment was not through google, I cannot get a refund within the 30 minute period.
- (2016-01-29) Glyn Hudson: Works great accept casting top Chromecast doesn't work. Cast button appears but does not do anything
- (2016-01-18) Renaldo Figueiredo: Replicates the Pocketcasts in the browser tab, adding the ability to use keyboard media keys/shortcuts so yes, it is a winner for me
- (2016-01-11) Works great, thanks! Love the media key integration.
- (2015-12-12) Matthew: Great except you cannot cast to a chromecast or download a podcast unless you use pocket casts in browser.
- (2015-11-10) Gary Horner: Simple, useful, LOVE IT!
- (2015-10-26) Abel Bueno: The closest thing to a desktop version of Pocket Casts. A lot of credit goes to Shifty Jelly, who developed a perfect web app version of the original app, but this almost perfect port to a desktop environment deserves good praise too. Knowing that the much needed support for media keys is in the works is a relief and a good reason to start using PocketCaster right now!
- (2015-10-12) Very helpful to have this up on my work PC as a separate app while I use Chrome for my other work related tabs.
- (2015-09-16) Mark Shroyer: Does exactly what it's advertised to do and nothing more. Perfect.
- (2015-08-25) Thomas Lai: fantastic. just what i am looking for.
- (2015-07-28) Dexter Johnson: Fantastic. Simple and clean, definitely love this -- thanks.
- (2015-07-27) Steven Combs: If you are a Pocket Casts web user, you will enjoy this app. I use on both ChromeOS and OS X. As others have stated in their review, works perfectly, but could be even better with a few more features. Still, this does exactly what I need it to and works much better than Pocket Casts in a tab.
- (2015-07-25) Robert Lemoine: it would be cool if you would put a search bar where you could search for something besides the name of the podcast(eg. guest names) also the bar that pops up when you play a podcast covers the bottom of the scroller.
- (2015-07-11) Tyler Bickel: Works well! Media key integration would be awesome. Thanks for this!
- (2015-07-08) Casey lawton: Great, exactly what i was looking for. Not sure why Pocket Casts hasn't done this yet
- (2015-07-08) Andrew Haines: Awesome Add on. Agree with other reviewers... I listen with a Bluetooth headset on my Laptop, would be nice to pause with the media button on the headset.
- (2015-07-02) Josh Rochelle: Love it! have been looking for something like this for a long time. I second the media keys request. That would make it peeeeerrrfect.
- (2015-07-01) Christian Borg: love it
- (2015-06-24) Geoff Hackett: Does what I wanted, but would be awesome if it could respond to media keys (pause/play/skip/prev) on macs and pcs.
