High quality neural text-to-speech voices from Piper, synthesized locally in your browser
Description from store
Piper is a collection of high-quality, open-source text-to-speech (TTS) voices developed by the Piper Project, powered by machine learning technology. These voices are synthesized in-browser, requiring no cloud subscriptions, and are entirely free to use.
This extension lets you install Piper voices to your computer, then adds these voices to the browser's list of available TTS voices, which can then be used by websites, apps, and by other browser extensions to synthesize text to audio.
For example, after installing your favorite voices. You can use this tool to test them out:

- (2025-02-12) Allevate E: extension does not work at all. When you open it, it sends you to some random tab.
- (2024-12-27) Shaun O'Leary: This extension is great - it lets me use Piper voices with some online sites that support browser text to speech (for example: lifebible.com). I do have a question though: if I have multiple voice packs installed, and/or voice packs that provide multiple voices (eg libritts), I can't see how to select the specific voice I want to use. This is possible in the menu on the Read Aloud extension, but I can't find a corresponding option in this extension. Can you advise?
- (2024-10-31) Anakh Sun: In order for LOCAL TTS to work, you need to go to the SITE and paste the text?! You need to go to a mental hospital!

- (2024-03-28) Mosthra: Vietnamese voice has quite low quality, the local dialects pronunciation is very unpleasant.
- (2024-03-26) Michael Goldstein: A very welcomed project with plenty of great voices. Some of them even breathe (seriously). I do wish the voices knew to pause when there's a new like in the text (they pause if there's a dot but some of them don't recognize the Enter key (so to speak) as a reason to pause. But even that doesn't make this one any worst. It is better than any other voice engine for chrome that I have tried free of cost. Not all the voices are this great, but the ones that are (out of the hundreds offered) are absolutely wonderful. Keep up the great work in improving them! Well done, truly.
