Description from store Text Editor is a free app that allows you to create, open, and edit text files on your computer and Google Drive. All standard text editor features are supported, including syntax highlighting, font size, word wrap, tabs and spaces, printing, undo/redo, keyboard shortcuts, and more. How to use Text Editor * First, select a text file from your computer, Google Drive, or GMail attachment. * The text file will be read and you will be shown the files contained inside. * From there, you can view the file and make and changes or edits. * After edits are made, press the "Save to Drive" button to save the edited file back to Google Drive. * You can also download a copy of the text file to your computer or device using the "Download" button. About Text Editor * This app will open a text file of your choice, letting you make changes and save back them to Google Drive or your computer. * Text Editor works with plain text files; web files such as HTML, XML, and CSS files; data files such as CSV and JSON; and code files such as C++, Java, Python, and JSON. * Standard text editor features are supported including syntax highlighting, word wrap, themes, and keyboard shortcuts. * Text Editor is a pure Javascript web app. All processing is done locally in your web browser and on your computer.

(2023-03-08) Homuncula Art: Every time I open a file from Google Drive, the Text Editor first opens the "Welcome to the Text Editor" document, and then starts opening my file. It's pretty time consuming. Wouldn't it be possible to view my file directly? Without that boring interscreen?

(2021-08-13) Karl Pearson: This won't run on LInux. I don't know why, but it just stays on the introduction/instruction page and a couple of little icons spin and spin. I suspect those would show the tools necessary to open and edit files. Drat.
(2021-08-06) Gary Eglinton: I accepted Google's offer of texteditor.co to open the calls and sms.xml files saved in Drive. What a mistake! It does not work for this task, it requires permissions, and once installed, it looks like I will have to take it with me to my grave, because there appears to be no way to uninstall it. BEWARE!

(2021-03-26) Rdg Jr: Does not play nice with Virtual Desktops. I like this editor a lot, but it can only be open in one specific Virtual Desktop at a time. Trying to open the Text Editor while in a different Virtual Desktop opens up that other Virtual Desktop
(2020-11-08) halcyon: Really nice. Works on editing files that are not usually supposed to be edited in drive such as .sh files (shell files Ubuntu) and .bat files (windows scripts, batch files). 👍

(2019-10-18) Josh-Daniel Davis: Automatically offered by Google, but then it fails, saying authorization is required. There is no obvious information on how to set up authorization. If it can complain, it can give me a link, or it can prompt me for credentials, or something vaguely intuitive.

(2019-10-14) Heather Willis: I used to love Drive Notepad, it was a great on-the-fly editor for when I was in college and didn't have my laptop to access VS Code or Sublime Text (yay for colleges not providing A PROGRAMMING STAPLE GEEEEEEZ). Anyway, something happened, apparently Drive Notepad is malware now? Idk, Google blocked it and it won't authorize, so it's USELESS NOW. Hmmph, off to find an alternative to use with Drive I suppose.
