Enable your WaterRower to communicate with We-Row

Image from store We-Row
Description from store WaterRower‘ We-Row App connects your WaterRower with the internet and enables to train and race against other WaterRower owners all over the world. Simply connect your S4 Monitor with your PC or Laptop. Use the USB-cable that you have received with your WaterRower delivery. Choose a Nickname and fill in the registration form. Your WaterRower is now connected with We-Row. We-Row allows you to train and store data. Every training or race is displayed with different graphs and information. You are provided with daily, weekly monthly and overall statistics. You can organize public races at a pre-set date and time and allow up to seven more WaterRower owners to race against you. All race results are being displayed in the public statistics. Alternatively you can train by yourself and get training graphs and training information. A neat function in the trainings section is called “race against”. You can choose a successfully finished training from the past and race against this training. This allows you to see if you have improved your strength and endurance. At any time you can invite Rowers that are live on the We-Row platform for a race or organize private races with your friends only. Your profile can be adjusted at any time as well.

I began using this app in the Chrome extension and then decided to install the Windows version as I don't normally use chrome. So far I just use the training mode to chart my progress. I find the graphical results after the session helpful as they show at what point my stroke rate dipped etc. This is handy as a guide for how to improve I think. I realise that without installing the advanced pully setup from WaterRower, that the stats are not bang on reliable, but I find them fine for a home fitness setup. One feature that I would like to see, would be the ability to export my sessions to excel. Apart from that, I like it and looking forward to future versions of this software.
  • (2018-02-25) Dan Kowalczyk: The good: My first experience with this app was good. I like that it connects directly and it doesn't ask for more permissions than it needs. The data is stored on my account as expected. The bad: A minor bad thing is that when I rowed before the computer beeped, the data did not stream to the app. If I waited for the beep, then the app collected measurements as expected. Overall I would recommend this and I'm glad this is a web app so it can be used cross device.
  • (2018-01-12) Michel Matera: Horrible app! Very unreliable. Can't make it work. Crash all the time.
  • (2018-01-05) Thomas Goerlich: Not what I expected when I bought a premium rowing machine. Quite bizarre to implement this as chrome extension, no surprise you hardly ever meet anyone online to compete with.
  • (2018-01-03) David Melton: Very poor app for excellent rowing machine. Only Plus side is its the only one I've found that is available. List of concerns issues. very limited functionality. Is there any way to do a custom distance eg 3k. I can't edit my profile. Sometimes its shows connected but when i start rowing nothing registers. Then at the end of the row it tells me I completed the distance in 0s. There is no option to remove this row from the system either.
  • (2017-12-17) RAH London: (weird language because page translates to German and back to English) Finally got this working on a Windows 10 Laptop. It seems the "Ascension Island" bug and email verification "Error 404 Page Not Found" are not fatal. The app itself initially hung up on "awaiting connection". I tried installing drivers manually - which seemed a waste of time, but multiple restarts and reconnections eventually paid off with a connection. I'm not sure what did it. However, the connection is very unstable - it frequently takes 5 to 10 minutes of trying various restarts etc. to get a connection, making it virtually hopeless. Software is very basic - I will report success/failure in operating features as I progress. So far 1 of 2 races have recorded OK. (Now done 10 races, but getting a connection between the laptop and S4 is very frustrating). Not tried online racing (I scheduled one race but nothing happened) Overall a very disappointing experience for a quality rowing product - I would recommend the Waterower without hesitation if they fixed some decent software. As it is I could never recommend it. It is bizarre, in the modern (post 2005....) world they must be losing a great many sales as a result of weak software - it's one of the first questions people ask me & I have to shrug my shoulders and say "sorry, it's a pretty hopeless effort". Will increase rating if it improves (currently up from 1 star because of connection problem - 3 stars once working)
  • (2017-12-11) Martin Borchert: Remember my login does not work and basic things like speedometer show no reading at all. Together with using Google's deprecated chrome apps technology this is seriously falls behind competitors.
  • (2017-10-30) Peter Gee: I don't have a problem with it being a chrome app. and I don't have a problem with limited racing opportunities, or its basic functionality. Its annoying it can't remember my settings (why is that button there if it doesn't work?) My problem is that around 20% of the time I use this app it crashes for no reason, even when things look great, the app just locks up for no reason and remains non-responsive. I have contacted support by email but had to responses, and that is driving me crazy as well. fix it or pull it I say.
  • (2017-09-16) Ashley Miller: Great app to make rowing on the waterrower even more exciting and motivating! At first I wasn't convinced by the concept of using a Chrome app to run We-Row, but after using it a couple of times, I'm hooked! Now, I don't see how we could have We-Row running on an iOS/Android app, since the device has to be connected to the rower's display over USB (no BT)... unless you use a special USB dongle. Sounds a bit complicated and far fetched. So far, I'm really happy with the app. The overall app could be much improved by competing against other players, even when they're not online (by sharing their rowing profile, with other players who are online - basically, competing against the "ghost" of a player based on his/her best performance. As per the privacy issue, you'd just ask a user if he'd be willing to let his "ghost" compete against other users). As of now, I have to wait for other users to pop online, just when I'm rowing... I'll give 5 stars when this feature will have been added!
  • (2017-06-04) Tim Visser: I like the simple interface. It does everything I want it to. Only issue is that it would be better running on iOS or Android as it's quite hard launch on my Mac & USB issues mean I sometimes spend more time on tech support than rowing. I'd be happier to pay for a more stable solution.
  • (2017-04-26) Whity: Registration not possible at all (Error code 500). Too bad...
  • (2017-04-21) Chris Hines: Can't get past the login screen as it rejects the attempt with a huge red box full of code that I cannot interpret. Don't waste your time. It is really disappointing they can't make this a standalone program that actually works.
  • (2017-04-19) Matthew Schultz: For the premiere rowing machine, this software is and should be an embarrassment. It feels like it's straight out of 1980. And a Chrome app? Hello? How about an iOS/Android app?
  • (2017-04-19) DJS: This is the update? - can't get past the registration. Selection drop down for location stays fixed at Ascension Island. Once registered cannot login. Same bad user experience as previous version.Get the basics down folks - and put it back in the oven, it's not done yet. BTW really a chrome app?
  • (2017-03-21) Ioannis Palavatsos: The app has some cool features (private and public races, you can compete against yourself) but for a top rowing machine this is definitely not a top rowing software. And we need the app to be compatible with tablets and phones!
  • (2017-02-18) Ben Osborne: Much better now I can create my first record with out having to compete with a semi pros on the internet. This seems to have happened since the recent update.
  • (2016-12-10) BODY BY WALLY Personal training (BODY BY WALLY): for a company with a top rower, the software is a disaster; I mean really! You cannot even do a private race, it is (coming soon) - OMG! How can this be with this company?! Buying another rower for my training studio and it WILL be a Concept2 - D.
  • (2016-10-20) Craig Sayler: finding little things like race against your self is cool, to help you improve. I am finding that my last 4 races did not record in the ranking. Very frustrating. Just did my first 5k and it did not record under my name or in ranks. I am thinking about building my own program to race others.
  • (2016-10-09) Tom Olislagers: I have yet to get this thing working. I've spend hours following all guides I could find on connecting the USB from the waterrower to my PC. Tried multiple PCs, updated drivers, checked monitor software verion, nothing works!!! Bad software support from Waterrower!!! Incredible for a device so expensive!
  • (2016-05-17) Chris Krievs: I would have thought the design team would have done more testing before releasing a Beta version. Having used the old We Row software a worrying issue still exists - that is the race suddenly stopping as is seen by the super fast times. Responses to emails sent would also be good manners. What has happened to the "successful 3D testing"? I would pay for software befitting of such an excellent product as Waterrower.
  • (2016-05-16) Eric van Riessen: Can do better. Does not even work with a Modern Fujitsu Thinkpad tablet... No support for tablets yet, do I need a full blown pc in the wireless era?? It is a beta version, which was better not released.
  • (2016-05-15) issues with this software (tested on 2016-05-15) - I don't see a way of changing my user details (nickname etc.) - graphics and rowing animations are really really basic - rowing animations during race are not smooth but flickering / they stutter - rowing animation not in synch with rowing movement on the waterrower - login button on top right corner is always displayed even after logging in - country icons for some countries are not displayed (e.g. "AC) instead an error icon is displayed - support request sent via email are not answered at all Why do you not just open source this thing? I'm sure that this would be for the better for everybody. Is there any other decent software for the waterrower? I'd be happy to pay for it...
  • (2016-05-14) Yassir El Baz: A first attempt, anyone knows it's a first beta, but yet everyone's bashing this app. Ok, I expected more, too, but I'm happy to see that something is moving. Hopefully the designers copy a few options from the concept2 software ;-) I would love to see the possibility to trace training efforts and such.
  • (2016-05-11) Hannes Hausegger: I guess one intern spend a month and came up with this... Disappointing for a device of such quality and price!
  • (2016-05-03) Photo Mail: Loooong way to go to make it a decent application like Netathlon or Rowpro
  • (2016-05-03) A long time to wait for a piece of junk, albeit a beta version, this is still an amateur attempt. It's 2016 FFS!
  • (2016-05-02) Philip Roth: Disgusting! After almost 2 years of waiting no registration possible, for the registration form is not displayed in toto on my laptop.
