- (2020-07-07) Flour Sack Enterprises: Fantastic! Transcribing interviews is the least favorite part of my job, but oTranscribe makes it so, so much easier. Having the pause/play and FF/rewind buttons so easily accessible from my keyboard while I type is a godsend. And I love inserting the timestamp with an easy Ctrl-J keystroke. Really well designed and really well executed.
- (2018-12-03) Audrey Kr: Very helpful and easy to use. I liked how you could slow down the audio which was helpful when the background noise got bad. I entered the list of interview questions once and used it as a template for the rest of the interviews. Then copied just the responses to a spreadsheet. No app required! I went back and re-transcribed a few interviews I did using just a player and was surprised at how much I had missed without being able to easily go forward and back.
- (2018-02-14) John Austin: Cut my transcription time in half! A must-have for every journalist/writer who has to transcribe interviews.
- (2017-10-20) Davide Semeraro: must have
- (2017-10-05) Desmond Chigariro: I love this App, it makes transcription easy.
- (2017-09-05) John DeVilbiss: Simple and intuitive. A true time-saver for me.
- (2017-08-05) Frances Cherman: This is perfect! Yes, you still have to type the transcript yourself, but the website gives you exactly the tools you need to do that. It lets you play the recording at a slower speed without distorting the frequency. It lets you pause and "rewind" from your keyboard. And when it starts again, it automatically plays the last few words that were spoken, so you never lose your place. I was able to transcribe a 17-minute recording and export it as text without even installing the app in Chrome or registering at the site. What more could you want?
- (2017-07-18) Sahna Aselira: gggggg
- (2017-04-05) Jacob Martin: Such a minimalist design and such a simple user experience, but there are great, little details in the background. For example, playing after pausing goes back about 2 seconds. I'd love a few customization options, but I'd almost hate to clutter up something that's just right.
- (2017-03-20) Michele Forbes: Love it! Easy to use and free! Thanks so much for making transcription easier!
- (2017-03-18) Matt Thomson: This is fantastic for transcriptions of all sorts. It's just a simple text editor which includes on-screen and keyboard controls for audio playback. I've tried so many other jerry-rigged options, many of which are incredibly complicated, and none of which work properly. This is simple, easy to use, and it just works. Great stuff.
- (2017-02-28) Darius Lahoutifard: THis is NOT a transcriber app, just a utility to help while you transcribe MANUALLY!
- (2016-11-08) Nguyen Thanh: Really Awesome! thanks for your apps!
- (2016-10-30) Jonathan: Amazing.
- (2016-10-02) Andrea Pinto: I suppose I'm an idiot--I thought this would automatically do voice-to-text and wasted a huge amount of time trying to get this to work. To those of you that thought this would do text-to-speech...it does NOT. It only makes it easier for YOU to type as you listen.
- (2016-08-02) Sara Farshadnia: Such a great tool, I wish I knew about it earlier.
- (2016-07-19) Kamanita Klinjuy: You can adjust the speed of the audio file.
- (2016-05-20) Jack Muramatsu: installs and then disappears. no way to properly remove
- (2016-05-01) abdulelah alsalem: one of the best
- (2016-04-06) Harpreet Singh: Sorry to say but the audio player has some bug. The timestamps are not correct. There is a lag that occurs in the audio playback. I played the audio in VLC as well as this audio player. The audio worked fine, but the time was moving faster in the app's player. The timestamps are not accurate, taking you to somewhere about 5-6 seconds backward from the point. Please fix this.
- (2016-02-13) Chris Pyves: This is a great little tool - simple and easy to use. I just love the fact you can touch the esc key and it pauses whilst you carry on typing and then when you touch the esc key again it starts up by repeating the last few seconds again. I was able to blast through my material in no time. Many thanks
- (2015-12-10) Manaíra Alcantara: Great app!
- (2015-10-22) Marshall Jones: Doesn't automatically transcribe audio files.
- (2015-08-07) Sergi Moles: thanks! agree with Tyler: "Treasure in heaven for creator, Elliot Bentley. The world needs more dudes like him."
- (2015-07-01) Tessa White: Works well, very easy to stop, speed up, or slow down the audio track.
- (2015-06-11) Ellen Nielsen: Have only used once so far. Downloaded after a computer meltdown caused my other resources to disappear (couldn't remember the name to reinstall). Seems pretty straight forward, no issues. Love that it 'backtracks' a few words after you've paused, so you know you got everything. Transcription is the part I hate the most about my work, but this sure helps. I can also see students using this to transcribe lecture notes -- how much easier is that than in my day when you just had to try to keep up in class!!
- (2015-06-02) T H: Brilliant app
- (2015-03-25) Great capable and flexible app.
- (2014-12-16) Megan Baker: Despite my list of cons, this is the best transcription product I've used thus far. Pros: - Video is paired with the audio. - Can export to Google Drive - Auto saves what you're working on even if you close out of the tab Cons: - No rich text formatting - Can't import files other than .OTR oTranscribe file format - Seems like I have to close out of the tab if I want to upload different audio - It shows the last file I was using to transcribe, but it's disabled. Would be nice to click it and reopen it. - Doesn't keep the video/audio uploaded and your place saved on it if you close out of the tab.
- (2014-11-17) Tyler McConnell: Works perfectly. Open-source. What more could you ask for? I've used it for a good dozen interview transcriptions as a journalist, and it's already made my life a lot easier. Treasure in heaven for creator, Elliot Bentley. The world needs more dudes like him.
- (2014-09-19) Alex Albans: This is such a helpful, easy to use app. I love it!
- (2014-09-06) Frances f: Very easy to use.
- (2014-08-18) Stephan Twisk: Great! I was hoping to find an app to replace the f4 software I used under windows when switching to chromebox and here it is.
- (2014-08-05) Liza Duffy: Fantastic in every way! Works flawlessly with my chromebook and my desktop for transcribing video and audio. All other paid programs I've tried have lacked something or another but this one does everything I need it to do and automatically backs everything up.
- (2014-08-02) David Belliveau: Very nice. Very simple. Very easy. It works exactly as you'd expect.
- (2014-07-19) Adam Burston: This application is a life saver! As a psychology/anthropology double major, there is a great deal of transcription that I have to do. oTranscribe makes the transcription that much easier and painless.
- (2014-06-06) Vinícius Albuquerque: This is exactly what I wanted. Sometimes the time stamp doesn't work well and I have to reload the page to keep working. It happens mostly when the audio is large, but it still worth, since the overall user experience is much better than in other softwares. I would suggest to find a way to export data with time stamps. I had some trouble using another SO in the same laptop. Even exporting the txt, it doesn't bring the time stamps.
- (2014-06-05) Niklas Ostersmith: Really well designed and easy to use. This is the first time I've had to transcribe something and this app makes it feel quite intuitive. I had no issues with using a small proxy video to transcribe from with this app. The built in Sent to Drive feature is nice too.
- (2014-05-19) Ward Christman: Wow, just wow!
- (2014-05-19) Ilan Oxman: vERY USEFULL INDEED!
- (2014-05-13) Enica Castaneda: I found this tool very useful for transcribing. The quick keys are great. Slowed down the speech (at first I thought that I wanted it a bit slower, but the quick keys were great). When you pause it and restart, it restarts a few paces back so you can hit play as you finish up. I really liked it!
- (2014-05-08) Vanessa Myho: You don't need too much to transcribe and oTranscribe got it in a very elegant way.
- (2014-04-28) Daniel Semanisin: This app is why chromebooks were invented. It's simple, functional, and plays nicely with my Google Drive. Outstanding.
- (2014-04-13) Adam Perelman: Simple, easy to use, and really helpful!
- (2014-02-18) Kyle Taylor: Absolutely wonderful.
- (2014-02-10) Daniel Stach: Simply Great! Easy to use. Makes human transcribing easy. Great free alternative to Transcribe. As I am doing some transcription work for free as a crowd-sourcing effort, this app makes all the difference. It is easy to train new users that want to help. Thank you for creating this product and doing it opensource!
- (2014-01-22) Robert Zagami: Before oTranscribe I used to use 2 computers (1 for playback & one for typing). Now its down to a laptop. Very function and well designed, couldn't ask for much more.
- (2014-01-17) Greg Giles: Amazingly well designed and simple application.
- (2014-01-13) Graeme: perfect transcription application.
- (2013-12-27) Ted Chambers: Perfect app for transcribing. I'm using it on a Chromebook, and it works just the way it should. I can't speak to transcribing video, but for transcribing audio it does everything I would want it to. The developer responded very quickly to a request for a change in the way the pause function works. Highly recommended.
