A canyon is a valley with steep valleys and depths greater than the width. It is usually developed in a section where the tectonic movement is uplifted and the valley slope is composed of hard rock. The Three Gorges in the Yangtze River Valley of China is a world-famous Grand Canyon. It consists of a series of canyons that form a 788-kilometer canyon section. There are also many huge canyons on the main stream of the Yellow River, such as Liujiaxia, Heishan Gorge and Qingtongxia. It is the ideal dam site for the construction of the reservoir dam.
