v1.0.8.x - "Can't Touch This"
v1.0.8.1-4 - Friday, July 8, 2016
- I've translated ScriptSafe into 46 languages! These translations are not perfect or complete, so I welcome anyone to help translate. Currently supported: English and Japanese.
--- Note: in v1.0.8.4 I've reverted back to support for English and Japanese.
- Updated the panel to better adjust to translations that have long phrases (e.g. changed "Rating" button to a star icon with a description on hover)
- Added ability on the Options page to quickly move whitelist/blacklist entries to the other list (e.g. move a whitelist entry to the blacklist)
- Enhance "Prevent Clipboard Interference" feature to protect against execCommand('copy') and execCommand ('cut') calls
- Fix issue where some elements were not being listed under "Blocked Items"
- Updated unwanted content providers list
v1.0.8.0 - Thursday, June 30, 2016
- Revamped the design of the Update page and the Options page: wider layout, larger/more readable words, and intuitive buttons. On the new Options page you are able to toggle between Grouped and List views by clicking on the button in the top-right corner.
- Fingerprinting Protection section contains the following options (all disabled by default, one or two have been added since v1.0.7.15):
--- Canvas Fingerprint Protection - protect against fingerprinting attempts through <canvas> elements, with the following options:
------ Disabled
------ Blank Readout (serve an empty canvas with the original dimensions)
------ Random Readout (serve an empty canvas with random dimensions)
------ Completely Block Readout (refuse to serve any data)
--- Block Audio Fingerprinting - prevent fingerprinting via the AudioContext API
--- Block WebGL Fingerprinting - prevent fingerprinting via the WebGL API
--- Block Battery Fingerprinting - prevent fingerprinting via the Battery API
--- Block Device Enumeration - prevent having hardware devices detected via the WebRTC API
--- Block Gamepad Enumeration - prevent having hardware devices detected via the Gamepad API
--- Block Canvas Font Access - prevent system fonts from being enumerated through <canvas> elements
--- Block Client Rectangles Fingerprinting - prevent fingerprinting through calculating element client rectangles)
--- Reduce Keyboard Fingerprinting (for advanced users) - make keypress timings more random to increase anonymity (note: adds a random delay between keypresses))
--- I recommend enabling all of the above options (except the last two) for increased privacy, and based on your needs disable the options that interfere with your usage.
- Added Remove Google Analytics (UTM) Tracking option (under Privacy Settings) - remove Google Analytics (UTM) tracking tokens before they're actually passed to the server (disabled by default)
- Added Remove Possible Hash Tracking option (under Privacy Settings) - remove possible tracking tokens passed using hash, where there is an attribute and value (e.g. #xtor=RSS-1) (disabled by default)
- Added Spoof Timezone option (under Privacy Settings) - spoof or randomize your timezone; useful if you use VPN (disabled by default)
- Added Prevent Clipboard Interference option (under Behavior Settings) - prevent pages from interfering with clipboard actions (disabled by default)
- Added option to apply user-agent spoofing on whitelisted domains as well (default behaviour is to disable spoofing on whitelisted domains to avoid issues, but enabling this option will spoof the user-agent regardless)
- Added Save as Text File functionality to the Export Settings portion in the Options page
- Fix Panel expand issue for Mac OS X users
- Updated unwanted content providers list
- I now have a Bitcoin address due to inquiries from people wary of PayPal but wanted to still donate! 39VJ5L9Yd6WocG6r88uE7ZZnM5J2M5bW92 (also found at the top of the Update and Options pages)

- (2025-06-03) Dean A: This extension would have been useful in 2010, when sites were not so complex. Using it nowadays makes it impossible to see anything.
- (2025-05-20) Dankk: If you change these three options in chrome://flags to disabled: Extension Manifest V2 Deprecation Warning Stage, Extension Manifest V2 Deprecation Disabled Stage, and Extension Manifest V2 Deprecation Unsupported Stage, and change the Allow legacy extension manifest versions option to enabled, MV2 extensions will be supported and work correctly.
- (2025-03-21) StrangeCreed: The most potent tool in my adblocking arsenal. Believe it or not, cybersecurity tips from the FBI *strongly suggest* using an adblocker to prevent malware. So Google, by removing this and other extensions, have made all of their users' computers less safe by doing so. Great extension, and whoever at Google presided over that decision deserves scaphism.
- (2025-03-06) Craig K: After 6 years sadden to see this and other similar are removed from adding. Just discovered it was stopped by Chrome, but able to restart it for it now. Great tool for not so Safe web browsing.
- (2025-03-03) ерунда сэндвич: Google is telling me this extension is no longer supported because it messes with their ads. Shameful company.
- (2025-02-07) F S: Been using this as noscript for years in Firefox and Seamonkey. The best plugin if you're serious about trying to control the trackers and whatever crazy javascript is out there on the web. When you use it you will see how fundamentally broken the entire web is without javascript so you'll be enabling a lot of domains to start. Not for greenhorns.
- (2025-01-08) Philip Hempel: 10 Years of use, and wow, the fact that Chrome is now removing the V2 manifest and causing this to break is bad. Looking for a browser that supports about 15 of my extensions that will die with manifest v3. Also, this has been almost flawless of an app all of these years. The last fix I recall that changed this for the better was the ability to sync across browsers! The fact that I can export my lists with a simple file out of the config is great. Yes, I needed to spend time allowing sites, but that is the point of managing your security! This has been a power users tool for all of these years
- (2025-01-06) scott hanson: I've been using this for many years, sad to see it go off support. Does anyone have an alternative? I loved browsing with scripts off and enabling pieces as needed.

- (2024-12-17) sibiris: Im modifying my old review, now in 2024. I've had this thing for years at least from 2015 or 16 and a part from a few hickups with sincronization, it just works.

- (2024-10-08) Ronald: Useless extension with fake protection. The disclaimer states: "Due to the nature of this extension, this will break most sites! It is designed to learn over time with sites that you allow." Of course, you don't know what sites to allow. That's why you would like this extension to protect you from malicious sites. If you simply have to turn if off each time you visit a site it's useless. Just opening any website is impossible without turning off this extension. We need an extension which protects you and allows you to visit safe websites without having to turn off this extension.

- (2024-05-26) Blessen Varghese: Please update.. Recently causing Chrome crashes.
- (2024-05-15) gone baby gone: This is a five start app most of the time, but I gave it a single star for the following reasons. First, there is no way to export/import the block list. I want to be able to see what it is that I've put in, that can be used in other places, with Pi-hole DNS being an excellent example. Second, the blocking details are not saved in Google Accounts. Every time I log into a new browser I have to START FROM SCRATCH despite having a well trained ScriptSafe somewhere else. Please fix these misfeatures.
- (2024-04-24) Simone Spinozzi: works as intended, unfortunately i have to disable it to pass most captchas, it is kind of pointless to wear armor, disrobe so people can plant a bomb under my skin via surgery and then put the armor back on. I would like for it to kinda have a way to pass captcha without having to disable it.
- (2024-04-20) ABOU AHMED MOHAMED: it is the belter
- (2024-01-27) Ulithium Dragon: I have used this script blocker for years. Don't listen to anyone about it being out of date or getting false positive scans. It is light weight and does exactly what it needs to. Combined with ad blockers, I haven't gotten any ads in years, period, even on videos. Highly recommend.
- (2023-11-27) Dmitry: Thank you very much! :)
- (2023-08-28) J J: RED FLAG: This has not been updated in over 6 years. It was great years ago, but not now.

- (2021-12-14) Fixit Mann: This project appears abandoned, no updates in 4 years (since 2017.) I just updated Vivaldi browser to the latest 5.0 version and Hotmail would not open properly until I disabled scriptsafe, which made me check on updates to the extension for current browsers, which are quite different from those only a few months, let alone 4 years old... I'm thinking I need to go back to NoScript, which is updated constantly and works in all browsers now.

- (2021-11-17) Jon Gaskell: Great tool, robust, but appears to have been abandoned. There are a lot of features that aren't controllable on a granular level. Sometimes a site will be broken and no matter how many things you allow, it'll still be broken until you disable Scriptsafe altogether. There's no option to disable on a per-domain basis either, it's all or nothing in that regard. Still, there are a TON of privacy related features as well as ad and script blocking. Great tool, but has flaws and unfortunately it isn't being updated any longer.

- (2021-11-13) Lara Croft: This is one of the best browser extensions I've ever used. I understand it can be frustrating for some people to have to take the time to figure out what scripts are needed to make pages run, but I feel so much safer browsing the internet with this, and I personally only see it as a minor inconvenience in my typical browsing. The only thing I have to say against it is that it hasn't been updated in a while, which is a real shame. In fact, I believe it can no longer be downloaded on Firefox as a result (and I didn't realize any of this until I suggested a friend download it and couldn't get a download link for him). The extension still works just fine despite the lack of updates, but I would be thrilled to see development continue on this extension. Thank you for the fantastic browser extension! I'll keep holding out hope that you'll keep working on it again sometime!

- (2021-07-10) Diego Miranda: I like this extension very much. However, I like to clean my chrome as much as possible, including chrome/local storage/levelDB. Doing so, however, deletes the settings. Can the settings be stored en localextensions, and load from there, instead of depending on the files in levelDB? Thanks!

- (2021-07-05) Vita Dolejsi: It would be great tool, but problem is, that once in a while it resets all presets. Lets imagine you surfing through the internet. Day after day you are slowly creating your rules. You do it for months and you have set up rules for hundreds or thousands of websites. And then one day you turn on your computer, open chrome and you find that all those rules are lost, like tears in rain. Then you curse it and start again... And after some time, when you managed to recreate everything you lost... AGAIN!!!!!
