Passbolt - Open source password manager
Description from store

Passbolt is an open source password manager designed for collaboration. You can securely generate, store, manage and monitor your team credentials.

Get access to all of your logins and passwords from multiple browsers or even your mobile phone. Create strong random passwords, thanks to the fully customizable password generator, and share them instantly with your team.

Passbolt is built on top of an open API made for developers and agile teams. Passbolt is extensible and yet usable by everyone. No technical knowledge is required to use it.

This is why Passbolt is trusted by small businesses, as well as government offices, regulated industries, and privacy-conscious organizations:

Boost collaboration & productivity:
- Easily share one password, or a folder with a single user or a group of users;
- Use personal or shared tags to identify passwords and secrets;
- Give specific access rights to a user or group;
- Get detailed reporting on access & change history.

Security by design. Audited and certified:
- True end-to-end encryption;
- Interoperable cryptography based on OpenPGP;
- Full control your own encryption key;
- Access revocation that actually works;
- Regularly audited by independent auditors.

Made in Europe.
Privacy by default:
- Host it in our cloud, located in Europe;
- Or self-host it for full data ownership;
- No tracker, no strings attached.

Passbolt source code comes under an AGPL license (yes even the commercial version) and is publicly available. You are free to audit it, contribute to it, or redistribute it.

This add-on is required to use the software, in order to provide advanced security features as well as functionality such as password auto filling on web pages.

Required to use the app. Funny for an app that's supposed to be security-related.

Great plugin for a great application. I have been running my Passbolt server for a year and rate the product as simply brilliant and reliable. Just one remark: In a website's form, the Passbolt logo often overlaps with the logo (eye symbol) for showing the password in plain text.

One of the worst password manager. This is like forget something and it takes ages for recovery without any guarantee of recovery. It is best to write down password than using this manager. Their recovery page is unable to detect their own extension which is already installed.

It is a great Opensource software I start using since more than a year now. I install the server with docker on my Synology and the apps are great. Look very secure and some new features are release from time to time like 2fa. Keep up the good work !

I don't want to enter the password everytime I exit my browser. Is there any way to fix this for user convenience? Google Password Manager does not recognize Passboltt login page.

By far, the most adapted credentials manager for team needs!

Ishan Vyas 2024-02-21

The best open source password manager out there. I'm using it for almost 5 years now and it works great, it has everything from securely storing passwords/notes to folders.

Free for only seven days. Should be advertised as paid, so I don't have to waste my time installing and immediately uninstalling it.

Recent update broke my chrome browser ability to use Passbolt on internal services. The logon and password credentials get seemingly passed correctly, but i get a contextual error that "Either 'username' or 'uid' must be specified". The correct username is clearly autofilled. And when the password is viewed, the correct password is there. Why does the service not recognize them. When I manually enter the SAME credentials as Passbolt enters, the credentials work. The extension for Edge does not do this. EDIT: Indeed the new update has fixed my immediate issue. Lets hope it will persist and I can restore my confidence in this tool. Thank you!

can't copy password is a big big fatal misatake. i know its being secure but its kind of useless extension right now, so please consider another extension.

Brian Kelley 2024-02-14

You gotta hand it to Cedric: He cares about Passbolt. He takes issues people have and fixes them in updates. You just have to bring it up to his attention. The extension itself is very straightforward. The only change I wish that could happen is to prevent the Chrome's password auto-fill button/icon inside a password field would not share the same space as the Passbolt's extension icon. The two icons will overlap and one will hide behind the other and cannot be clicked on. This is probably just the nature of Chrome and probably not able to be fixed.

Jorge Riballo 2024-02-09

Since yesterday in the last update 4.5 of this extension it has stopped working correctly. The extension does not work, you have to copy and paste the credentials manually from the passbolt account to be able to work.

Stratos Thivaios 2023-11-19

It gives an error "Failed to fetch" when I close Chrome and open it again. Passbolt itself is great but the extension is broken.

Lorenzo Biagini 2023-06-21

Every time I close Chrome and reopen it, the extension cannot connect my account. Unfortunately, it is useless right now.

Open source password manager for community and enterprise. Clear documentation to setup, use, and maintenance. Primarily, secure by design.

easy to setup, adapt, privacy focussed with self-hosting option. The engineering that went behind it is brilliant and makes me feel secure

Passbolt has been excellent for our team. Service and responsiveness is also excellent. We've been using it for two years now and are glad we made the migration to it.

Well, passbolt is a fantastic tool for groups who need to share and store passwords in a secure way. I would say it is ideal for SMBs, providing password sharing, user management, and two-factor authentication to make things easy for everyone involved. Passbolt is a good choice if you are looking for an open-source, self-hosted password manager that puts safety first, and there are not that many companies.

The session in the chrome extension is way too short. I don't want to input the master password 4 times a day, that's the main reason I got a password manager in the first place.

The only password manager I trust as it uses a tried-and-tested encryption (GPG keyrings) solution that doesn't store any passwords in a way that could be decrypted if the server was compromised.
