  • (2025-09-11) Coltyn Stone-Lamontagne: I've been using Readerbear for a many months and it's been the perfect tool for me! For a one-time really affordable fee ($30 when I got it) I couldn't be happier. The word tracking feature is something I haven't seen on any free tools. All the tools I have seen want subscriptions for it! Basically, it lets you mark words based on if you know them, are learning them, or don't know them at all. This saves me A TON of mental energy and allows me to read for way longer since I don't even try to read the red underlined words. I just check their definition and move on. After a few times of seeing them I will mark them as learning (yellow) because I start recognizing them. And I actually try reading them until I just know them and can mark them as such! The tracking list can easily be exported to use on other devices too The parsing is also much better than Yomitan. You don't need to know where the start of a word is since it already found that for you. The grammar parsing is also nicer and catches more semantic cases than the free tools do. As a little bonus it has a very appealing aesthetic with expandable menus for the kanji and grammar which feel very clean and intuitive. I recommend this to anyone I talk to who are learning Japanese
